- The Rhythm of Life from the Movie and Broadway Musical 'Sweet Charity: The Adventures of a Girl Who Wanted to Be Loved' - Sammy Davis Jnr. ... Written by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields, directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse.
Cinematographically one of the greatest music production numbers in history.
That's Bob Fosse for ya. One of the greatest ever.
Only one Sammy. None like him before and none after. That era of entertainers was packed with genuine stars.
"It is sinful! It is harmful! It is also very expensive!' Amen to that!
Grace Stenberg yes it is
i think it's only the third one thats true, which is why it's considered sinful and harmful.
dudes a cheapskate XD
Only Sammy Davis Jnr. could have pulled that off,so cool with ease and so hip.Truly is one of the greats. With such real talent from the creator and all those that gave life to the movie. It is one of those must see movies.
My mom was pals with Cy Coleman at Music and Art High school and they used to sneak off anytime they could grab a free piano . She could not keep up with him and told me that he was destined for greatness.
Thelma Feit and Seymour Kaufman
..... two pals 🎶🎹
The way Sammy moves, like effortless! Simply brilliant entertainer..
I love how he inhales deeply from the rising smoke as he talks about the evils of marijuana.
Sammy Davis Jr is absolutely spectacular
Who are the 6 infidels who gave this a thumbs down?
I did not know this song. Really cool (thanks to Guinness Commercial and the Ben 10 Evolution Promo). :)
i love this song so much
Heard this for first time today. Love it!
Love this song :-)
I don't know which is more incredible the talent of the performers or the challenge of Bob Fosse
The wham of Sam. Never be another like him
ABSOLUTELY PERFECTION👏🏼👏🏼
FANTASTIC.....
Love this ❤️❤️❤️
Amazing
Brilliant.
Just FAB-U-LOUS x
Love it.
Smells like beatnik cool daddio. Cool man cool yeah
I am absolutely LOVING the “hip” version of the commandments 😂
1. Thou shalt dig thy neighbor as thou wouldst have him dig thee = Love thy neighbor as thyself.
2. Thou shalt not put down thy mommas and thy papas = Honor thy father and thy mother.
3. Thou shalt not swing with another cat’s chick = Thou shalt not commit adultery.
4. Thou shalt not blow thy minds on school nights and national holidays = Thou shalt honor the sabbath and keep it holy. (This one is kind of a stretch, I’ll admit. 😊)
This is like Laugh-In.
A group of my classmates in my theatre class is doing a large group musical of this song :0
What is the concept of this song and this scene? Does anybody know?
jasminne mcdonald the hippie scene I guess
@@jrmetmoi the musical is a celebrational satire of NYC in the 60s. This scene satirizes the numerous "grass roots" religious movements that sprang up on the east coast during that time--many of which were inspired by both pop and drug culture.
🤓 watch the whole movie !!
you won't regret it .
...this is when Charity and her date go and check out the "Church of the Month Club!!"...but, you have to see the whole movie, it's PURE CINEMATIC BRILLIANCE!!...thank you, Mr. Fosse!!...
60s style Choreography by Iconic Bob Fosse, incredible
While this comes out of Jazz, conceptually, it is mixed with the rise of rock and the general dumbing-down of music which has disintegrated to songs which have only 2 or three notes - if they have any melody at all. Ironically, this piece is based on 18th century Baroque counterpoint and as such, swings like a Brandenburg Concerto - try #2 for starters: th-cam.com/video/RNiKx8yHp1w/w-d-xo.html
REALLY??? LOL!!!
@@edelacrz I hope I wasn't too convoluted - I really like "The Rhythm of Life" and wish I could have seen the B'was show. Thank goodness we have the film. And, I hope you enjoyed listening to the Bach Brandenberg Concerto #2 - there are other recordings I like even more than this -
@@homzymusic While I don't agree with the "dumbing down" comment, I do about the Bach influence. Plus near the end of the song SD Jr. performs a gorgeous descant. This was also an era of an a capella group called the Swingle Singers that did versions of Bach, in particular. Very popular at the time.

Fun fact : Sammy Davis Junior was nearly going to be cast as the title role in Beetlejuice but was found “Too Campy”.
He was also in the running to play the Candyman in the original Willy Wonka but passed over
the one true religion.
Why can I not get this song on Spotify?!
I don't like it
Enrico Franchi boooooo
Shun the nonbeliever!!!
