I did this song with a choir in high school 46 years ago! I can still remember most of the words. Such fun to follow along with you all. Thanks! Great, fond memories.
I heard this song for the first time this week on the funeral of a beloved one. What a Power, this gives me such a mighty feeling to overcome a loss. Thank you!!!!!
Okay so pretty much for anyone wondering, the original song centers around a cult which preaches music as the way to live life, and the leaders name is “Daddy” and at the point in this version where they say “Flip ur wings up high” he says “fly to daddy” and then “swim to daddy” and then “crawl to daddy” he also tells teh story of how he left his wife and started making this crazy cult and honestly Sammy Davis jr was so great and ya it was awesome.

We are doing this song for choir... oh lord its nearly impossible to do that very last note when they sing "life"... i lost my voice for a week attempting to do it. We have our concert in a month and i haven't gotten it down yet ahhhhhh
I did it 2, last year it looks scary but as soon as u get it down it is the funniest song to song. Hearing all the harmonies makes u so happy u just have to smile while singing it :)
thanks for posting this! We are singing this for our schools choir and this helps me practice outside of class. being a soprano with this song isn't as easy as it seems! x3
bruh my 3-5th grade teacher had us all sing this, choir-style, and I have such great memories and used to sing it all throughout middle and high school right up until in 10th grade when I joined theatre, and someone went "oh shit I love sweet charity" and I finally heard/saw the original version and legit couldn't figure out if my 3-5th teacher was just straight up fucking with us or not. hell yeah
I remember singing this in my school choir when I was 8 years old, we were in a national competition and won it with this... great memories, thanks for posting
Thank you! I sung this song over 30 years ago in High School. I will admit it tortured me for many years because I could not find it anywhere. Thank you for posting it! A. R. Watts Bass Abraham Lincoln High School Choir 1987 - 1991.
THANK YOU! I had copied down the lyrics to this song when I was in elementary school. I just found my copy and googled it. Found this video! What a thrill!
@@terrygullatte7924 : ch in English usually sounds like K as in church or children, not ch in Christmas or chiropractor. This spelling of ch is more Italianate where C always has ch sound as in cello, Venicia ( pronounced Veni-chee-ah, not Veni-cee-ah) of Venice, and ch always has K sound. In classical Latin, not church Latin, it's the other way around I believe, so Cicero is actually Ki-keh-ro. Yeah, surprises many well-read literate Americans, like my sister-in-law who is a med school professor, a graduate of University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins. Veni-chee-ah?? Ki-keh-ro??
In 8th grade, my choir did that, we did it WAAAAAY faster, like one breath per page of sheet music fast!!! :D I still remember it perfectly and I love it so much!! I was a sap2 then, now I'm a sap1-ten1 :D #gottalovechoir
Great performance, brilliant choral diction. And the sopranos on the top D at the end sounded really musical despite the altitude! The choir I'm will be closing our concert next Saturday with this - am really looking forward the evening.
Like everyone less here, I did this in choir. I always felt that the song had an underlying... creepy feel. I knew that the song was in a musical, so really that doesn't surprise me, especially since I assumed the musical was from the 70s.
Void Shadow actually, it is. go listen to the original from the musical “Sweet Charity.” it becomes much more clear in that one. this version is _heavily_ edited from the original to make it school-friendly. the original talks about getting on your knees and crawling to “daddy.” much, _much_ darker than this one.
Void Kage yea it is dumbass and I just had a stoke reading you comment. The original talks about religion and going to daddy do research before you try and debunk facts what are you a middle schooler?
When your singing this in choir but your schools shut down bc COVID-19 so your stuck watching this with your choir friends on group call to continue practicing
I had a music concert in my school and the choir included this song! It was amazing but I thought I couldn’t listen to this song anymore but I still searched it up! Thanks for the lyrics!!
Thanks for this. The choir i am in were singing it and i was one of the only few male voices and needed the confidence boost. Turns out listening to this over and over again worked great! Thanks ^_^
when the song says "you will make a new sensation, have a growing congregation, build a GLOWING operation here below" not "growing operation." I know because I just did this song in music class and the script said "glowing" not "growing."
I'm deaf but I have a cochlear implant so I can "hear" this. I have to sing this in choir and since I have one cochlear I'm learning by this lyric video. I can't wait to sing it later at my concert.
by the way... when the sopranos sing "You will make a new sensation"... and on the words are "build a GLOWING operation here below" not growing. Just telling you.
I am singing this song in my advanced choir. This as helped me so much with knowing what parts to sing. I'm an alto. One thing tho is when the choir sings "Flip your wings and fly up high x3 You can do it if you try x2 try try try to fly" you you get it. The altos and basses sing something different than the Tenors and second soprano's. The 1st soprano's are also smt that exists lol. Its just not all in unison. Choir is difficult. This comment is just hear for others incase they get confused on that one part. Thx for ur time.
Brings back my memories of High School Jr. Concert Choir. And I forgotten how Molto Vivace this was. And I also forgotten how brutal this song is on the voice and throat as I tried to sing along.
100k+ views! Thank you guys! For the record, I was looking at the comments and I did misspell some things. My bad!! Lol I didn't even notice them! Anyway, I went back and fixed them :) Hope you enjoy! And once again, thank you!

We're singing this song for our school's speech day. Even though I'm in alto and the parts are so hard but his vid helped me so much when I'm outside of school. Thanks!!
I haven't sung this in well over 20 years. And now it's almost 1am and here I am in bed on my phone randomly listening to this and singing along!! The soprano parts because I was/am a soprano. 😂❤
1th grade and have to sing canon xD : Go go go , daddy oh. Tell me all i need to know. Yes the rythm of life is a powerful..... And then in 3 groups xD
Last year before I transferred to a different district, our choir sung this song. We rocked it. Now I find out we will be doing this same song at the school I transferred to, later this year!
I just thought of this song since I was on FB and was reading one of my Native American sites. It was talking about the Rhythm of Life and brought the song to my head. Funny how this happens sometime.

Take a dive and swim to Daddy, Take a dive and swim to Daddy, Take a dive and swim to Daddy, Swim, swim, swim to Daddy. Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy, Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy, Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy, Crawl, crawl, crawl to Daddy. In my honors chorus group we sang this in 5th grade not to brag or anything but it was pretty challenging.
in our 7th grade Ensamble we sang this and it's extremely easy if you practice at home the only kinda hard part is the go-going-go-go-go
I sang this in 2nd class I'm from Ireland so that's second grade
It's so easy 😂
Stella Butler I'm In Second class as well and we learnt it in choir !

thanks for lyrics helps a lot we are learning in chorus for 7th grade this year and it helps a lot
I love this song. My choir teacher taught it to me and I needed to review the lyrics.
lmao i came back for memories when my choir did this about 3 years ago and seen this, time passes fast!
Daddy started out in San Francisco,
Tootin' on his trumpet loud and mean.
Suddenly a voice said, "Go forth, Daddy.
Spread the picture on a wider screen."
And the voice said, "Daady, there's a million pigeons
Ready to be hooked on new religions.
Spread the religion of the rhythm of life."
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,
Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat.
To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet.
Daddy spread the gospel in Milwaukee,
Took his walkie-talkie to Rocky Ridge,
Blew his way to Canton, then to Scranton,
Till he landed under the Manhattan .
Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, going down below.
Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, going down below.
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Fly, fly, fly to Daddy.
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Swim, swim, swim to Daddy.
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Crawl, crawl, crawl to Daddy.
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,
Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat.
To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet.
To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet.
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Daddy we got the rhythm of life,
Of life, of life, of life.
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Man!

I remember singing this for choir three years ago, this was my favorite song to sing in any choir I've been in~
My choir class and i are singing this song for our yearly spring concert :)
I did this with my choir 2 years ago, and from now on, that song is stuck in my head
Holy smoke!! I sang this in a choral concert in 1989!
That’s about the same year that I was doing it with the peace child choir in Rochester New York. I’m just now trying to find out where it comes from originally. I saw there was a Sammy Davis Junior version, but he doesn’t seem to be either composer originally.
Omg this helped so much now I’m caught up in my choir Thai just u so much
Thanks for posting iam a soprano and doing this in my choir class 💖
