    Best. Champagne. Opening. Video. Ever. I honestly didn't know taking the cage off was unnecessary and dangerous. Not to mention helping get the cork out.

    A really excellent video - I learned more from this than anything else I've seen on the subject. In a nutshell: twist the cage fastener 5 or 6 times; leave the cage on, grip the neck tightly with your hand (the cage gives extra traction), and turn the bottle with the OTHER hand, which is holding the relatively wide bottom of the bottle. This end of the bottle gives you much more leverage than the much narrower neck affords. Cork comes off. Brilliant. Archimedes lives. Thanks.

    My homemade water kefir would always explode upon opening when the fizz builds over a few days in the fridge. So I figured there must be a way to open it without exploding kinda like a champagne bottle. I keep my kefir in glass bottles with a swing cap. Googled this and voila! That 45-degree angle while holding down the cap (rather than swinging it open) was perfect! Now I don’t have to lose half my kefir due to the usual explosion. Thank you!!!

  • @Lemurian.Quartz
    @Lemurian.Quartz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    Very well done. Although I’d argue the more important reason you don’t want that loud pop is because it usually is followed by loss of product…. And in my eyes it’s a far sadder situation to waste Champagne than someone getting hit by a rogue cork… but that’s just me 😂

    I was scared to death opening my first bottle, picturing the cork hitting someone in the head. I watched a few videos and this one helped, especially explaining the 45 degree angle thing. Others said to do it but didn't say why. I did still get a small pop that made me jump a little (don't tell nobody), but no crazy projectile and no spillage. Appreciate it!

Cork popped hit her in the eye and she was rushed to the emergency room. She lost her sight in that eye. The boyfriend was emotionally scared and went into a deep depression. My shirt pocket. It had flown up and deposited itself neatly in the breast pocket of my button down shirt (it was a summer backyard wedding). Who'd a thunk it? But now I know the proper way.

      I use the "saber technique" or "getting the pop" in celebrations, but you lose more carbon dioxide, which means less bubbles in the glass and for less time.
      This method (with no pop) helps champagne to taste better and longer, special for fine dining and good champagnes.

    I am studying to become a sommelier and I have learned this way and this sir is very elegant and correct, but for me is very hard to twist the bottle holding the pressure with the thumb in the wired muselet,it hurts my hand, I use a towel to twist the bottle because in general it is wet from the lower temperaturesheld before and the bottle is "sweating". I think only practice can bring this elegance.

    Smug comment about 5.5 turns, then makes ridiculous comment that the pressure is directed upwards. Pressure acts in all directions!
    The reason that you hold the bottle at 45deg is in order to avoid the the cork hitting you (bottle vertical) or a guest (bottle horizontal) in the face.

      This guy clearly failed physics 101... I will continue shooting the cork across the room. Just make sure no one is in the way. Much faster and more entertaining.
