Thank you for watching, I’ve made future videos shorter as I learn what to edit out. My newest one hopefully is edited better. Let me know what you think? Please subscribe if you haven’t, it really helps. Thanks again.
Thanks! I can’t remember if the video shows it but the sculpture is welded to the top and bottom of that base. I made a hole and the bottom of the sculpture sticks through it, in order to get a stronger connection. Please subscribe if you haven’t!! I appreciate you watching and commenting.
@@Hercworx Hi, I subscribed. I watched the video. It's a great piece! But I stand by my earlier assessment. IMO in a few years of the wind blowing, people touching it, or kids just messing with it, the base plate will crack around the welds and the piece will become unstable. There's a lot of leverage working against that base plate.
It’s close by so I can keep an eye on it. Maybe I will go over there and do a little video on it. It’s been installed for going on two years with no issues yet but I do expect corrosion and people messing with it to take its toll. Thank you for subscribing.
It will continue to rust, but when I want to stop things from rusting I coat with linseed oil. Please subscribe it really helps!! let me know if you have any other questions.
@Hercworx Already subscribed, no worries. I'm a retired truck driver who needed something to do a few years back , so after seeing various metal art pieces, I bought a welder and started myself to become a metal artist. I enjoy watching others and learning something new every day. Thank you for sharing your work. Have a great day.
Awesome, glad you like it. If you want to connect I’d love to see some of your work. Shoot me your email or head to my website to send me an email. Hercworx.com
@@Hercworx I would think a plasma cutter with a guide would have left an edge that would have cleaned up nicely with a grinder. Also I have never used one of those metal cutting blades but wouldn't it be better if you dropped the blade down more once you get thru the metal and make the entire cut in one pass instead of making multiple passes. Cutting at such a shallow blade depth forces the teeth to be in contact with much more metal constantly (the entire length of the bottom of the cut). Where as if you drop the blade further down the teeth are traveling up thru the metal more perpendicular to it's thickness. I hope I explained that in an understandable way.
Plasma cutter might of worked better, not sure. I’m doing another sculpture with circle so I may try. I have yet to get the metal cutting blades to work great but to your point when I dropped them down deeper they seemed to cut better on other cuts I have made.
super nice work, though i'd be worried that base won't hold up. It was awfully wobbly when you were touching it, I'd imagine a good windstorm could cause issues.
Great job. I had no problem watching the complete video. Welding with short sleeves and shorts exposing bare skin to ultraviolet light from the welder is a very bad idea.
Lol I have one, in hindsight sight that’s what I should of used. I was initially worried about the finish that the the plasma leaves, but that didn’t end up mattering.
Just a thought if you ever have to make smaller circles like that perhaps a ratchet strap could get you there as you ratchet the circle would get smaller. I think you're a talented guy and if you took a class on making successful youtube videos youll probably make a killing. These really long videos are hard to watch and im sure your losing your audience pretty quickly.
Ratchet strap is a good idea! Yeah I need to work on the editing. I need to get everything down to 20mins or less. It hard to know what to take out still figuring it out. Thanks for the comment!
That’s a good idea. When I was a fabricator I also used something called a “pipe tape” comes in a roll even has measurements converted around the curve it’s a great tool
Appreciate all the detail here. Definitely a long video as someone commented, but I’m loving all the insight.

That turned out awesome!
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
Something beautiful, thanks for giving us an idea
Glad you liked it. Please subscribe if you haven’t all ready.
Well done and great to see the whole process. Will drive over to see it soon.
Thank you very much. Let me know what you think after you go and see it.
Nice work !!! A labor of genius
Thank you very much, I’m really happy with how it turned out. If you haven’t I hope you subscribe.
I really like it, The shadow play is awesome! Too bad it will break out of the base plate from metal fatigue.

That turned out very nice !
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch..
What did you finish it with to stop it rusting? Or will it rust to form part of a "look"?

Would a plasma cutter work faster for cutting the rings out of the tank?
Probably, unfortunately at the time of this sculpture my air had to much moisture and I was getting bad cuts. I have since fixed that though.
Very nice job .
Glad you liked it. Please don’t forget to subscribe.

@Hercworx I'll send you an email this evening. Have a great day.
Would a plasma cutter be a good option for this type of cutting, or does that not leave a smooth cut on the surface?
It would have been faster, but I wanted a little cleaner edge than I could get hand cutting with the plasma.

Looks good
Thank you!

I’m not sure it came through in the video but I ended up welding it to the top of the base and it stiffened up a lot.
Thank you though!

Thank for the feedback. Glad you liked the video.
Have you tried a recip saw with a carbide blade on the thicker steel?
I haven’t? Have you? I would think it would be difficult to keep a straight line? Thanks for watching!
My dude, you need a plasma cutter. That would make quick work of those cuts. Minutes instead of hours.
Lol I have one, in hindsight sight that’s what I should of used. I was initially worried about the finish that the the plasma leaves, but that didn’t end up mattering.

No way was that 5000
All depends on the market your in I guess.
5,000 ?? I want to see the part where the guy gives you the 5 Gs... and his wife says it's facing the wrong direction.
lol right! It was sold to a city.
