Fantastic video. I’m learning so much from these lessons. I’m 45 years old now and never had any interest in sheet metal, because no one ever told me that sheet metal is fun!!
@legomaker3105 Well, I've been at it for about 45 years, and I still love to watch a flat sheet of metal turn into a mail box or a tool box or a floor in a hot rod. @@kengodfrey1956 Wonderful! I loved my '66 way back in the day before my girlfriend at the time wrecked it (she was fine, but the bug was totaled). Thinking about getting another one to mess around with.

@@kengodfrey1956 I do hope you do get a little 'sidetracked' and show some work on the Bug! I've got an '87 Golf with under 100K miles on it that's in real nice shape, but I'd really love an air-cooled.
Great video! I have found brad-point bits for woodworking work well on galvanized if you need to keep the pressure low. They act like a very small hole saw.
We use them in wood, but have not tried them in metal. I'm willing to try it . Thanks for watching.
Cool video! I think that I made the same Ell as Noah did for one of my apprentice tests. If I am not mistaken it is a cracked Ell (duct changes direction and is flat on one side). It's nice of you and your wife to take the time and introduce people to the sheet metal trade.

I enjoy all of the great tools. I recently bought a pencil sized pantograph, but I'm not sure what drawings I'll use it duplicate, but I'm sure I'll put it to good use. Thanks again!

I really like the new tools. The more you can bring sheet metal into the common home (which could be an apartment... no garage or place to do work other than the kitchen perhaps).
I also liked the heart episode. I think holiday themed pieces would be a great thing to continue doing. We just exited Memorial day so there's a patriotic moment that was missed but July 4th is soon to be upon us. I'm thinking about Halloween and maybe it's a bad idea but I'm thinking of dressing up like a robot! LOL Sheet metal would be great material for dressing up like a robot. But Perhaps some decorative masks that can be displayed on the wall... or at least a "spooky candy dish." The potential is endless. My dream project would be "Bender" from "Futurama." If you don't know what/who that is? Just search it... a great and simple character.
I like the holiday ideas. Bender is my spirit animal. I'm glad you enjoyed the new tools. I'm going to try to work through a few ideas for future lessons. I appreciate your input. Thanks for watching and learning along with us.

I'm going through a visual problem and I have a flat 8.5"x11" magnifying panel I would like to somehow build a frame and attach an arm (flexible? jointed?) to mount to a table where I sit. The idea is to make reading a bit easier. I'm having trouble with only one eye and it's not about focus (cataract?). Anyway, the idea is to use this arm mounted frame and possibly mount an LED light to make a kind of magnifying lamp for comfortable reading in my sitting spot. Trouble is I have no idea where to start.

Hi Ken, first I wanted to thank you for putting this great informational and motivational content on TH-cam for free. Secondly, where is the best place to find sheet metal materials? It is pretty expensive at the big box stores. Thanks in advance!
@johnwright972 we buy our material at a large metal supply right here in town. We pay about 60 dollars for a 4 foot x10 foot sheet of 26 gauge galvanized. You could make a lot of great projects from a sheet that size. If you have a metal recycling yard nearby, sometimes they have dented or scratched material for sale. Cut around the bad parts, and Pow! You have a sense of accomplishment . Roofing is a common user of sheet metal, so check out the flashings at the big box store. You can make some cool stuff out of valley flashing. I wish someone would have put a cross break in the duct work in one of my apartments, because every time the fan goes off it rattles like there is no tomorrow. Is there any after-the-fact fix for that? Keep the good stuff coming. I'll have to check out more of these videos this winter when I'm not rehabbing one of my apartments.
@johnnylightning1491 if you have access to the outside of the duct, you can cut a piece of sheet metal ( or 1/4" plywood) and laminate it by using polyurethane caulking as an adhesive. It doesn't take much to stop the oil can noise. You can also screw a stiffener to the duct. Walk through the hardware store and you can find plenty of sheet metal shapes that will get the job done. Angles, and channels are very useful. Make a spreader from them and you can place them on the inside of the duct if that works better for your application. Let me know what you come up with. @@kengodfrey1956 Thanks, it will probably be this winter before I get to it, I've got some other renovations going on right now, new bathroom, new kitchen, new flooring and a complete paint job. I think you get the picture. I do thank you for the advice it will come in handy eventually.

Ken, what do you think/know is the thickest gauge of (steel) sheet metal that the creasing wheel can put a crease in? If you mentioned that, I missed it.
We have used it on 26 and 24 gauge. So far, all of our projects have been made of 26 ga. Including the sample in the lesson.
