Replacement of Sanden A/C Compressor Shaft Seals

This video shows how to replace the front shaft seal on Sanden 5 and 7 series compressors. These compressors are commonly found on Dodge trucks as well as universal Sanden applications.

If there is a little scorring or scrathes isn`t it better tu polish the shaft ? I did it on mine just to be sure there will be no leak.

Hey Bob great video. I've done fs10 before with good outcomes but rate now I'm doing a FS20 which has the seal installed from the inside. I ordered a FS20 seal kit part number MT2051 but it didnt come close to fitting (to big OD and to small ID) so I tride a FS10 seal kit MT2035 that fit perfect but leaks bad. any recommendation on the proper seal.

Is the seal install tool larger in diameter than the shaft surface it ultimately seals against or the same diameter? From the video it appears the new seal is pretty tight on the tool.

I can do that without opening the compressor,just install in the outside basically,I made special tool to install shaftseal in the compressors

No, unit must be discharged and off vehicle.

Correct. However the very small amount used to repair a compressor is insignificant. Pag oil draws moisture to itself so it is not used on o-rings seals or fittings.

The mineral oil problem is only that it won't be carried around by the R134A (it will soon leave the compressor without lube; the same problem happens with PAO oil and R134A) but the very small quantity that you put on o-rings and seals isn't enough to cause this problem as long as you fill the compressor with the proper oil type.

WARNING: This video does not show the old type key shaft Sanden, you have to take the key of of the shaft but worse still the knocking out of the seal as shown in the video will break the spring loaded spacer that has a plastic part, i know of 3 people that have watched this video and broken that part, plus 2 of them have also damaged the roller bearing metal holder too. If you have a key shaft on your compressor be very very careful with the shaft seal, it will save you $$$$$$$$

Many Sanden compressors built before this unit may have a keyed clutch shaft. It is easily removed. Once it is out of the way, the procedure is the same and you will not damage anything as long as you use normal care. Yes you can do damage to the housing , and bearings if you are not careful where you place the tools before applying force. Thanks for bringing up the keyway issue.

@@mohamedakeel3282 yes, the lip seal type is a better option. you will need to purchase a lip seal installer/protector tool to do that. Also, kits come with an aluminum spacer ring that goes under the new seal to space it properly.
