I will always remember this awesome ship. I served on Torrens twice, 1992-93, then again for the decommission crew. Warship Torrens, thank you for amazing memories.
AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for sharing this video Bill. I served on Torrens early '79 to late '81 as a SMN/ABETP. She was a great ship with a great crew. So many fond memories of trips Up Top. I met a bloke some years ago here in Tassie who was also an ETP, MTL back then, on the old girl during the Vietnam era. She was my very first sea posting & I'll never forget the wonderful time that she was my floating home for those years. My next ship after 2 years at Harman then my Phase 2 course at Nirimba was Stalwart. I don't think your first ship can ever be matched by any other & Torrens will always hold a special place in my heart. Kind regards, Tony.
Hi Peter. We worked together on Torrens in EW and spent time ashore together in some of the exotic places the ship visited along with Bill Marcroft ??? I believe. Hope you are well. I remember turning on the TV at my work place the day Torrens was sunk to see her split in two by a torpedo!
@@TheSaffron1965 Hi Art, I remember that time very well, even after 50 years. I'm fine. When I saw the footage, I was amazed at the damage. The footage was used in the Pearl Harbor movie.
Thank you Bill. I was privileged to be in the commissioning crew and serving under Commander Ian Knox. This footage brings back so many great memories of serving aboard a great ship.
I didn't know the Pearl Harbour story. Glad you are well. I enjoy revisiting my Nirimba, Vampire & Torrens days, which were good but look even better from a distance. 50 yrs since the war ended! Travel well. Art
Brilliant footage Bill, thank you. You include four war canoes in which I served, Torrens, Swan, Sydney and Supply. Days and guys never to be repeated at the time when the Navy was at its best.
@@billallan630 Negs m8. I was a Sydney Native for my sins. Got the Aurora down to MLB, reported aboard (was a Sunday) and was informed 1. I was adrift (go speak to State Rail) and 2. Was OOD. Was tempted to do that in civvies. Fortunately had already been in 46 and 49 so knew the layout and SSO more or less. Great bunch of guys and despite the hard work some fun times. And yeah remember you. Good to catch up again.
