The Haven device has a very low amount of freaks and zeds it can kill until it has to recharge for 15 minutes. I think it's ten zombie and three freaks.
Really liking the update so far, it's nice going at your own pace for the hearts. Also going stealth in the plauge area and not waking them is a nice touch. Thanks for the video Ducky
Gotta give the developers credit most developers aren’t going to keep adding updates that add to gameplay years After the games release especially without making it dlc. One thing I would like to see in the 3rd game is more storyline like the Trumbull valley map has a more interesting storyline compared to the other maps.
I haven’t played this game in a long time and I’m surprised it still gets updates! These changes sound amazing and I’m so happy to see outposts work like how they did in SOD1!
Been playing it with my friend, lots of fun! I love how many more hordes there are, it makes the world feel more populated. Stealth is way more useful, almost overpowered. My friend and I were able to destroy several plague hearts without fighting a single zombie, using suppressed pistols and pipebombs. It's by far the optimal strategy against hearts.
Been waiting to play State of Decay 2 for a while and after hearing about this update a year ago I pre-purchased it in anticipation. It's finally here and the game is phenomenal in its overall polish over the first game. This studio has come a long way since then and it really shows. State of Decay 3 hype already mounting.
so hyped to hop back into SOD2. I havent completed the story yet - really enjoyed logging like 30 hours when it first came out. Kinda like how I played the first one. Then after a few years I finally set to task on completing SOD 1. Probably will be the same here as I love these games so much.
had a test run with the new mechanics, i always do fresh start on lethal but not much changed since stealth has always been my go to skill. but i like the fact that my overall stealth approach now has to be stealthier than the last time. i love sod2 devs so much 🤗
Can confirm, Haven Device now only kills a set number of regular zombies and a set number of freaks before it stops killing then and you get a “Haven Device recharging” warning in the left hand side of the screen
Here I was talking about SoD3 and they hit us with an awesome update. I'm loving this update & brings me back to the game while we wait for State of Decay 3.
I really dislike the nerf they made to the haven device. It takes forever to kill zombies now and needs to recharge constantly. You had to do so much to unlock it and now its simply not worth the base slot it takes up.
Really? I love it. In my opinion the haven device was way too powerful and kinda just ruined the game. Plus there’s nothing that sounds and looks as badass as 8 pissed off survivors all going absolute batshit crazy with the red talon SMGs and dumping those 120 round magazines at 50 rounds per second into an oncoming horde 🤣
I went back in without knowing anything, just as usual when I got my first car and a bit of explosive I go full Rambo and start shooting, crashing, rampaging through town and kill a plague heart. I woke up three nearby plague heart. Well, it is fun at least.
haven device got nerfed so hard, only pops a few heads before entering a 15min cooldown. And yes, seems that it no longer provides ANY base quietness bonuse.
Interestingggg, do you think this was a good change? I'll admit I've never had much experience with the Haven Device to be able to say whether it needed changing or not.
Not good. Im a casual and play on lower levels, haven was exactly that, a haven. With it being nerfed its kinda annoying to have blood hordes infect if you dont have plague cure. Honestly the nerf should only work on higher levels like lethal.
The haven device has to go on cooldown regularly now. Seems like it can only take out a jug or a horde or two before it takes a break. IDK if this was always the case cause i only installed it like 2 days before the update of course, but it seemed much more effective in those 2 days than it does now.
After doing some tests to the Haven device, I would say it can roughly kill around 15-18 zombies or around 5 freaks before it has to go on a 15 minute cool down. It's definitely nerfed but the outpost traps do make up for it and it's actually more satisfying to see zombies burst into a ball of fire and die.
Great video man! I have been playing this game since it came out, walked away a few times to give it a break, always fun to revisit and make a strong community. Man I wish they would stop with updating this game. They are always changing little things in hopes that it will make the experience better. I think the game regardless of all the great quality of life improvements, has had its time. I want something new and fresh like SOD3. I’m tired of all the updates and changes, wish the developers could just put more time into the next game.
Them updating or not updating this game has little bearing on their progress on State of Decay 3, complaining about this game continuing to be improved and worked on while we wait is kinda bizarre.
this is coming from someone that 1. loves your channel lol 2. hasn't really played SoD2 because its not really like the first one and 3. hasn't played the new update but even tho i havent played it i can confidently say this update is honestly badass, it's caught my attention and makes me want to give the game a go again even if there's not much replayability
I've been playing this game stealthy since lethal zone became a thing, I'm always on lethal and now Stealth is more important then ever before. I've also always placed my outposts strategically. Am ready
This sounds like such an awesome update somehow this game is still getting better and better the supposes 3rd one is gonna have a lot to live up to. My gamepass subscription had to be cancelled so I've not been able to play in a while, I should just buy it really but things keep coming up meaning I can't justify it. I hope to soon though
Really not sure about the update so far. Feels impossible to do missions at the beginning because you have to worry about waking up plague hearts. And if you inevitable do then you just get infestations galore. Only plus side is that only the screamers have to die for it to go away. The traps are pretty good to be fair.
I remember when they bought out lethal zone.. It used to kill you by cheese. I had 3 bloaters spawn right next to my survivor they all popped at the same time instantly killing her... Everyone complained they fixed it...indont play it on anything else but lethal...
This nerf to the haven device is INCREDIBLY UPSETTING. I’ve played SOD 2 since beta, and have loved the experience every step of the way, and look forward to seeing what’s next in the future. That being said, the nerf to the haven device is just an insult. You work hard to obtain it, but it does absolutely nothing anymore. It barely protects your base, and attracts more zombies rather than repel them. Undead Labs if you are reading this, please return the Haven Device to its original version, or at least instead of -80 noise at least make it -60 ~Galavant Gaming
Going into plague territory on lethal actually feels like infiltrating hostile territory now, gotta stay undetected or if you do get detected hope its not a screamer and run or risk waking the heart, I love it.
I have not seen that killing screamers at infestation kills all zombies. Not my exerience. Freaks at infestations can drop really good loot. Mod, fa kits, even a 50 cal
It might be because when killing the screamers, any zombies they've drawn in by screaming won't be killed, just the ones at the infestation itself. Thanks for the feedback!
All zombies will immediately die if you kill the screamers and arent playing on LETHAL that is. Haven device is nerfed. Only kills a certain amount and needs a recharge.
Whatever you do, DO NOT! I repeat! DO NOT install the Hordes R Hordier mod. The new horde system now involves freaks and the mod multiplies them too. I JUST WITNESSED A 6 JUGGERNAUT GANG RIP APPART A WHOLE ENCLAVE AND A FOLLOWER!
I think so! Some people don't like how the co-op works, so make sure you do your research on this before buying. It's also on Game Pass, good way to try it for cheap!
@@MrAtomicDuck I enjoy it so far, I like how hard the game can actually be at times and very detailed. Haven't tried the multiplayer much though, I'm excited! Got me as a SUB as well! 👍
My biggest gripe with this game was how they handled Multiplayer and base building. There is no true co-op sadly. Why i stopped playing it not long after it came out.
There's one or two downsides to doing this I believe! Firstly, I don't THINK the other freaks drop items unless you take them out by yourself. And if the screamers have got off a call, it'll only kill the ones in their infestation when they die, not the ones they've attracted by screaming. Good to hear other player's thoughts!
The update made dread, standard and green real boring, the infestation rates and sleeping plague hearts made it too easy. Nightmare and lethal though are better balanced.
I will admit, that even on dread zone the only time I woke up plague hearts, was literally AS I was killing them. And I'm not even THAT good. Dread is hardest difficulty I am "comfortable" with. But I can see impatient and loud people ending up getting punished for their noise.
Yeah, I think when people get more comfortable with the mechanics, they may need to tweak the difficulty again on the lower end to make it a bit more challenging than it is now.
I hate to be a negative Nancy but I felt a bit underwhelmed by the update. For all the content that has been put on it hyping it and then actually playing it I was like meh...
I just finished a run of the new update. I'd say it's definitely an improvement over the previous versions, but don't go into it thinking that the game is that much different. Overall, its still the same game with some new mechanics. I'm not sure why they would sink so much into updating a game that is basically old by now, unless they are using it as a test case for systems that they want to incorporate in SOD3, which I am eagerly waiting for, but not super optimistic that we'll see it any time too soon...
Nah, i think i'm just gonna leave this game for good, i mean, i get that some people like the fact that they rework the game and change some aspects of the way it's played but honestly i don't, specially when the game is already 5 years old.

I haven't played it but I wonder if the bell tower can still be used to trigger a siege and be used to farm prestige
Good question!
I think they mentioned in a dev diary that regular sieges give prestige, but "intentional" sieges still only give influence.
One question I have is: do infestations still spawn after all plague hearts are dead?
Very good question. Haven't got a playthrough to this point after the update yet, so would be interested to know myself!
this game and assassin creed origins are two games from xbox gamepass that i consistantly played. They are like my comfort games
Good choices for sure!

yes you can, dinner bell and building the haven device also gives influence, only naturally occurring sieges give prestige
