He looked tired and worn out.
    This really breaks my heart.
He was a great actor with a lot of personal problems.
I loved him as a human.
    May he R.I.P.

I bought the whole series of the Fugitive on Amazon uk, it was and still is the best tv show ever made. R.I.P David and thank you.

I just downloaded the whole series. The Fugitive was my favorite TV Show from '67-'73, I didn't watch much television from High School till mid 80's VCR craze. I'm amazed how much I enjoy every episode after all these years, God I miss those days.

Absolutely adored David Janssen. Fit and handsome to the end of his days, and never forgotten as The Fugitive. Much missed, RIP David. XXXX

No, he was not fit, and the booze and parties really took it out on his appearance.

I have so much admiration and respect for David Janssen, as a man and an actor. His portrayal of both Richard Kimble and Harry Orwell led to them being role models for me growing up.

He looked very tired here. He was such a hard working actor. Why in the world would they make him do these scenes then cut them out?? Doesn't make any sense. Thank u for posting. Very good!

He died a month before the film was supposed to be released. Probably family legal hassles etc.

      @greg6363 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

His scenes were cut for the theatrical version so that they wouldn’t have to pay residuals for his performance. His scenes were included in the television version which is rarely shown.

Aileen Wagner Hey I have been on movie sets and ya do however many takes required to make the Director happy. Tough guys like Janssen would just do it, and never complain even if it kills them. Honest - they weren’t being mean. Its just the nature of the work.

Its sad watching Janssen like this, he didn't look well, I know he was a heavy drinker and smoker but he also worked 12 to 14 hours a day with hardly a break, that will take a toll on anyone, and sadly that's what happened to David Janssen. Here was a quote from Barry Morse from a People Magazine in 1990 (ten years after Janssen's death) "People come up and tell that he (Janssen) was on the booze and that's what killed him, I say "Nonsense" David Janssen was the hardest working actor in the history of show business".

According to His autopsy he didn't have any bad liver damage.
There were no drugs of any kind at all in his body.
There were 4, maybe 5 or even 6 things, that killed DJ.
1.) He did not exercise, thus he didn't take care of his health.
    2.) He drank to excess.
    3.) He smoked to excess.
4.) He pushed his wore out exhausted body to preform one project after another. AKA: as a workaholic.
A possible 5th reason would be that his diet was not all that great.
He may have ate a lot of foods that cause high cholesterol.
The 6th possibility that may have contributed to his early demise was that he may have been under a lot of stress due to his marriage.
It was reportedly on the rocks and his last failed marriage was one of the biggest divorces in history. He lost a huge fortune over his last marriage and if he was headed to divorce court again soon he may have been stressed at the possible loss he would be facing.
Combining those 4 or 5 or even 6 things and it will age a person more than their actual years and could cause premature death by way of heart attack.

Incessant travelling across the globe, sleeping in hotel beds (not your own), jet lag, early filming schedules, humid locations, you'd need to be fit and healthy to churn out the number of films David did in his later years incorporating the kind of life that went with them. Poor old David was not the fittest or healthiest as you've commented on in depth about, this sequence looked like the director was literally trying to kill him.

My best friend suddenly died of a heart attack spreading gravel in his backyard in '93, he was only 36. Some of us live to 100, and some don't make it to 30. But strokes and heart attacks are heartbreaking cause they can happen without any previous illness.

Of course, I'm only speculating here and I don't know if he pushed off needing someone or was the type to not admit weakness, but it just seemed nobody cared for David Janssen. Even as he is struggling here, nobody comes to his aid. He is often standing alone. It seems to me that the people in David's circle only wanted what they could get from him. I've only read a little on him, but it seems from his mother to his wives it was all about them. I wonder if he was such a workaholic because it helped him escape from the unhappiness he had in his personal life.
