If you are sad, depressed, heartbroken, frustrated...the best way to recover is to dive in feet first and HELP OTHERS! Volunteer anywhere you can, as often as you can. Animal shelters, homeless shelters, boys and girls clubs, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. By helping others you will overcome your personal hardships. Trust me. I know this first hand. It really, truly works.
You are absolutely right. This is called "seva" in the Indian Dharma traditions including Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikkhism. Our depressions and suffering are a result of our attachment to our mental images of ourselves (ego). When you go and do "seva", you relinquish your attachment to your bodily and mental comfort. Slowly you start chipping away this ego and realise that you don't NEED to live up to that image in your head to be happy. Making your entire life a service to others without any expectations, makes you let go of the ego and flow with the flow of the universe. That's happiness and joy.
Good way but it took away my health burned out by now, giving to much help and time to help others. It's about balance and being able also to recieve and accept or ask for help aswell
I am so pleasure that you share this to us thanks and thanks a lot....I am from Cambodia . I have bee living in the USA for 4 years. All the the time before bed time I listen to Buddhist talks in Khmer or English it makes me fell so peace, calm ,and relax I can not find more words to describe how I feel . I have one small bed room to live and a old car to drive to work I live by myself but I am a wealthy ..... I never feel like I am a poor man. I never hungry I alway full...I am always enough
His lectures are truly eye openers for many people. I cannot help but think that if I can continue to reinforce these messages of his about fear, depression, and other ways of suffering in the world, I will finally be able to overcome my severe/extreme case of depression, my social anxiety, and any other mental illnesses that I may have. The mind is a powerful thing; it is foolish to just waste it away, either because the body seems to be doing badly or for whatever other reason.
Thank you so very much for all the good advice and encouragement, we lost our sweet baby (19yr old son and a U.S. Marine), in a car accident in Jan of 11 and sometimes my sorrow is so profound and your words really help. This one is my favorite so far....
Dear Ajan Brahm , if you would be so kind to answer my question? I am a new listener to your lectures I truly enjoy them and I need your insight! My mother has Alzheimer's and dementia every time is about time to go visit her I get anxious not knowing the condition I would find her . I took care of her until I couldn't do it anymore! She been in a home for Alzheimer's and dementia for a couple of years now , thank you 😊
Hello. I am not Ajahn Brahm. But I would say that you are a caring son and that you shouldn't blame yourself for needing some help with taking care of your mom. Take care friend!
@girjaye I'm not so sure. Those decisions were, unfortunately, in the hands of people elected to political office. And, also unfortunately, many people will vote with their emotion regarding issues for which candidates claim to stand. The "freedom for security" aspect is often only seen in hindsight, but the point is valid that we've sacrificed too many freedoms to fear of terrorism. Until things like the TSA and PATRIOT act are gone, I think it will continue, this institutionalized fear.
@MrWrongevolution Some sect of buddhism have a little different view. just looks for between Mahayana and Theravada. specially about Hell. but both still very good teaching.

@BhudhaLovesBudlight: Walk up to a bear without fear? How would you know that it is a bear without fear? It may be afraid & maul you in self defence. LOL Seriously, fearlessness means we don't have to be afraid of the bear & kill it in self-defence if the bear is not threatening us. If it is threatening us but we can get to safety, we still don't have to kill it. Fearlessness does not mean foolhardiness - walking up to a bear. Fearlessness has to be combined with common sense & wisdom.
Nice buddhist monk but most monks are nonveg ,alcoholic, married and living luxury life. This is against real buddhism.plz avoid meat, alcohol, eggs, wife and luxury life then inspire us to be pureveg and live simple life without any violence. This is buddhism."this comment is from the land of buddha kapilbastu lumbini nepal "
Don't you think that's the reason you still have a small place, old car and no companion. Because you became content and stopped trying hard. If you don't try hard no pressure of doing things and no passion you will have nothing to look forward to. I am afraid if everyone feels this way there will be no progress in the world.
@@Soundofsilver2007 it actually does make sense. But use these wisdoms as a foundation for everyone’s unique life situations . Learn how to turn your ego on and Off in different situations

When there is LOVE, there is no Fear.
Fear is the absence of Love.
Just as lighting a candle in a dark room. Darkness disappears.
Your teachings are highest form of wisdom
