Its got that 1990s/2000s old school JRPG feel to it. If you grew up in that era or playing those games it's definitely something you can tell. It makes sense too since Togashi is a huge JRPG fan and heavily inspired by them. You can see it with stuff like Greed Island etc.
*watched hxh (1999) and hxh (2011) during 2015* • after finishing 1999, i continued on 2011 version, and all i could say is that - i totally prefer the 1999 version, though the 2011 version is beautiful, yet, the feeling, the music, and the artstyle is different on the 1999 version, it's wondrously beautiful. But overall, Hunter X Hunter, whether it's 1999 or 2011, Hunter X Hunter will always be my favourite anime, this haven't changed for 6 years already! 💖 Listening to their OSTs totally makes me feel nostalgic :(
