- Xiaomi just released their flagship Mi 9 smartphone. A powerful colorful fairly priced device. But is the Mi 9 durable? The only way to find out is with a durability test. We will be scratching the 'sapphire glass' camera lens cover to find out if the sapphire is real or not. I also have a diamond selector tool to test the thermal conductivity of the gemstone like material.
Sapphire crystal is a super premium material. Its hardness level is right next to diamonds on the hardness scale. But when sapphire is not pure... it does not maintain the level of hardness that a pure form would. Sapphire should not start scratching until a level 8 or 9 on Mohs Scale of Hardness.

If it was actuall full on sapphire lens it would be scratch resistant but at the same time brittle. Who wants a brittle camera lens?

I think it is worthy of a test because of how different the design is, and on that note, maybe do a drop test of the 10e vs maybe the s10 or 10 plus, to showcase the durability downsides of a curved display like the infinity display.

my Mi 9 lite scratched because I put it into my pocket with my keys in it ONCE! it scratches easily, so invest in a screenprotector
@@MultiKingfull mine has a tiny scratch and I didn't even put it in the same pocket with my keys, but it did fall on hard surfaces a couple times while I was waiting for a new screen protector to get delivered (the one I bought with the phone broke when it hit the heating system with its corner and cracks started appearing randomly afterwards, so I took it off). But I have a couple very tiny scratches that haven't grown any bigger and a new screen protector on top.
I've been choosing between Mi 9 Lite and Redmi Note 8 Pro, chose Mi 9 Lite, and I'm not disappointed at all. Especially the headphone jack, it's important for me since I switched back to standard headphones

I would guess its the same as apple, with a very thin layer of saphire on top of the glass. It will protect against light abrasion, but the layer is so thin its flexible enough for the force to scratch the glass below it with anything other than light abrasion. Its the same reason why you can scratch anodised aluminium, despite the aluminium oxide layer having a hardness of 9.
TLDR It provide scratch resistance to light forces, but harder forces scratch through the protection to the weaker layer below.
Because the pick is hard abrasion, whereas light abrasions such as sand blown by the wind should be protected against
The aluminum oxide layer probably doesn't have level 9 hardness. Not all oxides are equal and not all oxides have crystalline atom organization

Psycharge there’s this shitty product that a bunch of places use that is a “liquid” screen protector. Staples rips people off for $30 to apply it. Unfortunately it doesn’t protect against scratches or drops.
He did it sometime ago. I forgot which video.
But, it didn't work.
Liquid screen protector is just a gimmick. Even tough i haven't tried it, it will turn out to be a waste of money.

Hey I just wanted to say that I really respect your work, the reason I say this is that I usually watch you videos and think it would be pretty easy to replace a screen until I helped my dad replace one for his ipad, long story short... it took forever and required a lot of patience but eventually we did successfully replace the screen. Keep up the good work!
