Currently on a 24 KTM 300 XC but am a Yamaha die hard. Had a 2020 YZ 250X and absolutely loved it! After selling it and buying a Husky 300, I had several things I noticed immediately. 1. My speed increased considerable on the 300 I assume just because of ease of use and greater bottom end. 2. The gear box on the Yamaha is very weird. Funky gaps that are super noticeable if you ride these bikes back to back. I just felt a lot more natrual with this gear box 3. Cooling fan. Yamaha was hard for me to overheat but it would in the really tight nasty stuff. A fan would be so nice. 4. The button. Yes, I could start the YZ with my hand if needed but its too much of a pain in the butt if your stuck in mud, buried in a rock garden or on the side of a hill to have to balance and kick. I'd love to see yamaha make a few small changes to this bike but from everything I have heard and read, there's no chance. Bummer. Absolutely one of THE very best bikes ever made and though its essentially a 20 year old bike, it's still a formidable opponent. Please, Yamaha... just a few small changes and masses would ride blue again. Pretty please?
You're 100% right, if Yamaha came with at least the button from the factory, it would be up there with the big boys, at least its got great after-market support and you can get all the mods you listed.
@@RIDEreviewRELOAD for me the affordability of the yz250x was just too good-looking. Even after 1k in mods, its two - four thousand dollars cheaper than the newer bikes.
@@PNWSingleTrack Here's something you may not have heard of or just overlooked....the Beta 250RR and 300RR (or the race editions which have a few changes/upgrades over the normal RR's). I own one. It's an anniversary, all white bike. My dad had one when I was i was a kiddo. I remember watching the new owner driving away with it. I bought the beta 200 trying to reproduce the same feeling. It hits every mark, man. Love it.
I had one for years and loved it on faster singletrack like you have in this video. The gearing and especially the lack of estart could be a pain on very technical terrain though. On a beta now and I love it but still got mad love for the yzs

it helped a little bit with the low rpm riding, it was mainly so I didn't have to jet it every other week depending on where I was gonna ride. It helped with fuel mileage and gave it some low-end luggability.
That bike was too twitchy for me, I would have to add a stabilizer on it to see if it would tame it a bit. I abuse the clutches on bikes and felt it was a little tiring at the end of the day. I certainly missed the magic button on it as well. Regardless, it was an amazing bike.
