Have to tell this story. My brother got his son a XR 80 for Christmas. This must have about 1982. The next summer we're sitting at fishing camp his son comes back covered in mud and wants us to get his bike out, he got it stuck. Ok, no problem...right..? We follow him into the woods (swamp) and couldn't find his bike. "Where's your bike son?" "Right there daddy" WHAT THE?...... HOW?..... This XR80 was buried handlebars deep in the mud. I mean you couldn't even see the seat. We had to go back and get the 4 wheeler to drag this thing out
Hey man great video. I was having doubts about buying my 3 and a half year old son an electric dirtbike for christmas. But seeing your video gave me hope that I can teach him to be a safe rider.
Those kids have skill! I started riding dirt bikes at 4 years old and never learned how to let off the throttle until I busted my kidney in a wreck 16 years later.

Hey Ray. I would 100% have my son ride the pw50 again before the ktm. It’s just a good stepping stone. Especially since he’s still 3. My son has had a few bikes/Stacyc’s now and the pw50 is not a decision I regret. I bought both the 50 mini and sr. with less that 7hrs each from parents that rushed to put their kid on them. They are race bikes and can kill their confidence in my opinion. A pw50 is easily a 3rd cheaper than a ktm. Start there and then transition to a ktm mini. Most kids racing go thru a period of racing both at the same time. If you ever want to discuss more add me on instagram devries211. Good luck

Great, I bought the KTM SX Mini like in this video for my 3 year old grandson and a KTM SX 65 for my 8 year old grandson and they both took to riding these fast little bikes like baby ducks to water, I treated myself to a KTM SX 105 which is mega fast, you just can't beat riding dirt tracks with your family, thank you God for my many blessings 🙏

I was stressing if that would wear the clutch faster. It didn’t. Long story short, 2 kids learned on that clutch. 85hrs on the bike before it needed replaced. The trick is to change the oil with ATF moterex every ride day.
Hello Andrew, love your vids. I have small question... I want my kid to start riding also and was thinking pw 50 or the sx. The pw will be better for him to start u think? He is 3.5 year and will be his first petrol Thanks in advance
I think the best route is to start with the PW50. The 50sx is a race bike, 90% of the kids racing the ktm’s started on a PW50. It will build confidence and be alot more fun for your soon to be 4yr old. Then eventually if you goto the 50sx, the transition will be easier.
I would have KILLED to have had one of those when I was 7!!! That was back in 1966! I finally got one but it took several years of begging. My first bike was a Yamaha Enduro 100. Small, but it did everything I wanted it to do.
Watched this video before and it reminded me of 32 years ago when I was doing the exact same thing with my 2 boys. Then I saw my previous comment and it made me laugh. KTM has sure come a long way with their mini's. Was enjoyable to watch. Hope kids are still all in. Including mom. Sometimes that changes when speed enters into the equation. Good luck.

This is the only video comparing these bikes and yet it’s the biggest choice parents have to make with 3k burning a whole in our pockets. Can you include these bikes side by side can you take about suspension options for these? Can we see what the kids looked like right before they got to big? How did they look right when they got to big ? How many inches was your kid when they needed more bike?
Looks amazing. I’ve got a 2 year old who is just leaving the balance bike. Hopefully going to get him a Stacyc 12 then progress to a dirt bike. He loves anything with an engine.

There are a lot of different directions you could go. The Stacycs will help progression a lot. I think the pw50 is a great starting point. A lot depends on the kids ability, your budget and riding locations. I feel like the pw50 would get a lot of use by a 4 and 5 year old.
Our kids have had a few bikes. We ride a good amount and occasionally race. If riding tracks and racing is in your immediate future, you will end up with a ktm or cobra at some point. My son is now 7. He still rides the pw in the neighborhood with his friends and occasionally at tracks. But his KTM sr gets used only at the track. This is awesome! I have been looking for what to get for my 4yr old to start training and this helps!! Do you think a 50/65 SX would still be too aggressive to start with? Thanks again!! Cheers!
A 65 is definitely too big and aggressive for a 4yr old to start with. I believe all 65’s have a clutch as well. If the 4yr old has no experience then I would start with a pw50 or even a ttr 50. The ttr 50 sits a little higher. Good luck!!
Well the PW 50s and KTM 50 sx s have an automatic single speed where it goes on its own without a clutch or gears. Wally ttr50 is a auto clutch where there's no clutch all you have to do is turn the throttle it still has a 3 speed.transmission. if the four-year-old has absolutely no experience at all they would probably be better off with either a PW50 or a 50 SX
i was 4 when i started riding too. i rode a (im guessing early 2000s) Honda crf50 and did alot of local races from age 4 - 6. i also rode a spiderman themed fourwheeler haha. im 15 now and about to buy a KT250 4t. cant wait to start biking again. its been literal years.

Andrew DeVries thanks a lot for clarification! I will look for PW50!! 👍🏻
WHY JUST WHY thanks for the heads up! I have decided to look for a PW50.👍🏻
I’ve loved Ktms for like 5 years it’s my dream bike
i was 4 when i started riding too. i rode a (im guessing early 2000s) Honda crf50 and did alot of local races from age 4 - 6. i also rode a spiderman themed fourwheeler haha. im 15 now and about to buy a KT250 4t. cant wait to start biking again. its been literal years.

I think i have seen your kid before ??? Did he go to BartowMX at all ever???
That kid is a beast going from 4 stroke to2 stroke
My sister has a pw50 and it’s a post mix 2 stroke
Where’s that track?
What size is the Orange one
What is the Max speed on the the orange one
Wow that is awesome.
What's the bike dad's riding? I might have to look for something little for me to ride around on with my boy's on their 50's!
It’s a Kawasaki 110L. If I did it over I’d get a Honda crf110 for the efi
