      Thanks guys! Really looking forward to watching your videos as you travel around. If you get the chance you should also head down to the Hatay province to Antakya - the people are so friendly there and a really cool mixed culture. Also the camper stop at Gazipasa beach is incredible and sunset drone footage to die for!!

      The Black Sea area in Turkey is very safe right now Val. Very far away from any unrest in Russia or Ukraine 🧡

      We unfortunately don't have time on this trip to see all of the black sea (and the weather hadn't quite warmed up to summer temperatures when we were there) so we have pinned these places on the map for our next trip to Turkey! 🧡 Thank you for the recommendations!

    I’ve watched the video twice now and there is so much I want to comment on and tell you but I don’t know what to say so let’s see. I guess the town was flooded for a hydra damn as that’s what happened to NZs town of Cromwell which was just devastating to a lot of kiwis. That has stirred up heaps of memories as I stayed with my friends grandma in 1961 and she was still cooking in one of those cookers with firewood. She baked us a sponge and I can still see her with her ear to the door. What a memory, I have been back to the new town in more recent years but it wasn’t nice.
    I will comment more later but I wanted to tell you how many memories you have stirred up. Travel safe. BTW have you been to that place can’t think of it’s name but I think it begins with C. They say there are loads of statues that look like chimney pots but to my eye I think they look like something you might buy in a sex shop 😢😂😂

    • @courtsandmeeks
      @courtsandmeeks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Val! Thanks for sharing your memories with us, as always! We get so excited to read them. I'm not sure what type of Dam it was tbh but it sounds similar to what you remember in NZ. Our next video will be in Cappadocia, with all the hot air balloons and funny shaped rocks 😂🥒🍆

    @aliciathom9633 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    we were in Hasankeyf 4-5 years ago, as it was being flooded. Very sad to see the old mosque slowly disappearing, and so many historical buildings lost. Part of the old town was still there and we got to walk around, but we’re left with a feeling that something very valuable was being lost.
    If you want to see somewhere lovely in the east, in the north east, on the border of Georgia, the Kaşkar mountains are absolutely lovely and very different to anywhere else in Turkey.

    Yeah the rubbish thing is so bizzare in Turkey, cuz there are bins everywhere! Meeks/Mesi... Meeksi new name

    • @courtsandmeeks
      @courtsandmeeks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Meeksi 😂 let's see if it sticks. It is so weird isn't it, our whole time there and we could never fathom why people leave stuff on the ground. We went to a picnic area in the north before leaving the country and it was packed, then when everyone left they just left all their rubbish where they'd been sat in big piles. It was so bizarre because they drive passed the bins on the way out!

      Exactly Carl! Why else have a home on wheels right? We're not saying the East wasn't pretty but for us and the mindset we were in at the time, paired with it being Ramadan when we were there so everything was closed, plus it was cold!! 😂 We were ready to hit the road and get somewhere new.

    Wow - I went away and genned up on the history and background to Hasanteyf and the need of a dam for hydro and irrigation and how it all got so over the top... my family could relate to this. If you know St Mary's Loch in the Borders, then you may also know of the Meggat Dam. My grandparents croft is at the bottom of that... they were provided a modern (1960s) home and hilltop farm which was a much tougher life for the sheep and the grandfolk than had been on the lush Megget valley... anyway; small fry stuff really compared to what has happened where you've just been, but it seems there is no stopping such projects once they start...
    I love that you found the hospitality and friendliness of Turkish people is as abundant in the east as you found in the more popular touring spots; it speaks to the culture and national character... (though so does the flytipping &*{) Desert landscapes have their own certain type of beauty, but there is no doubt that to return to the green and floral areas will be a release... looking forward to finding out where you get to! YAM xx

    • @courtsandmeeks
      @courtsandmeeks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Such a great comment, thanks Yam! Cool to hear about similar projects back in the UK, we had no idea about the Meggat Dam. Thanks for educating us! Sad to hear about your grandparents croft though :( similarly in Hasankeyf they were telling us life is much harder for everyone now and it's illegal to have livestock in or around the new village despite farming and agriculture being what most people did in the old town. Because of that rule 3 families decided not to live in the new town and instead live in the old cave houses across the river with their goats and sheep!
      And yes, we can definitely say that Turkish people all over the country are as friendly and hospitable as one another. It was just the landscape that didn't inspire us too much and it was cold 🥶 just felt like time to turn around and we'd probably been putting it off tbh as it's always a tough decision on any big trip to know you're now heading in the direction of home. Take care and speak soon x Courts

    I always thought the east was sort of rocky and dusty, not that I know anything about it, just what I have seen on films, but the people seemed the same.

    • @courtsandmeeks
      @courtsandmeeks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah 100% the people are equally as friendly! Sometimes even more so because they see travellers less often. The landscape in the East was beautiful and different don't get us wrong - we've never been somewhere so far reaching and open. But yeah, after 8 hours of driving and not really seeing anything except fields and mountains in the distance, as it gets colder the further we got, it didn't strike the same note as some of the other areas we'd explored!
