You can't say Roger/Whitebeard or any other Pirate for that matter is strong, without putting respect on Garp's name.

Akainu’s attacks never touched his allies and he directed it towards Aokiji’s ice. Although I agree killing fodder isn’t oda’s thing unless it’s flashbacks.

Garp is getting jumped by 100+ pirates while saving his squad, and outperformed kuzan in every 1v1 situation on panel. So using the canon facts garp win high diff in a clean 1v1.
Garp also never made any attempts to kill kuzan. Since he would’ve hit him with a galaxy attack, when he blitz him while nerf to go after pizzaro. But instead he just bulldozed his way past him, which show killing kuzan was never his priority. While Kuzan confirmed he thought garp was died, and it was a team effort to take him down for those who believe shiryu stab did nothing to slow him down.
His galaxy punch looked like what would happen if anime characters actually punched at light speed.
truth of the matter is Garp's Galaxy Impact left Shanks's Divine Departure looking like chump change.
Issue was never Garps attack being over-animated, issue always was Shanks fanboys feeling butthurt that Garp put that D. over Shanks when it comes to haki-based attacks.
KOL can’t downplay Garp anymore. “Slow and old” doesn’t apply after the statement Aokiji made saying “it took several of us to take him down/couldn’t even kill him” ON TOP of all the Garling glazing going on.

I personally think that Galaxy Impact in particular caps at city due to him not wanting to hurt Koby. I still scale Garp far above city, its just that attack can't be scaled any higher given what we've seen. If he wasnt trying to save anyone on the island, I'm sure he wouldve leveled it though.

KOL, you need to rewatch the galaxy impact scene. It's a shockwave in the anime also. If you slow down the video, you can clearly see the impact that hits the ground is from garp punching from the very top of the energy dome. Just clarifying cause it seems you don't realize it's shockwaves in both cases. You can also see it in the anime when garp launches the boat. It's clearly just air force from his fist (which is what a shockwave is). At first I thought in the anime that Garp actually comes crashing down to the ground, but if you watch closely, he doesn't.
Also it's silly to classify something as a shockwave vs not just because of a specific visual effect. It may be depicted as a more concentrated shockwave in the anime, but it's still a shockwave. I think it's getting too much into semantics to say his punches don't create shockwaves. He can clearly destroy things with his fist without his fist touching them, even from very far away.
I think any real differences in visuals between the anime and the manga are intended for cosmetic spectacle, not to actually change the way you perceive the strength of an attack. I feel the same way about the disintegrating/melting buildings vs just breaking apart. I would argue they are melting in the manga also. It's just that we are getting 1 single frame, so you can't tell that's what's happening. If you look near the top of the buildings in the manga panel, there are some tiny pieces in the act of disintegrating. The buildings that already melted are inside the blue energy dome. You lose context with only 1 frame. That's all.
The pirates won't be able to talk to Garp if they really get hit with a COC. Probably why they removed it from the animation
Luffy has surpassed Garp as the strongest puncher. And thats with Conquerors Haki taken into account.
Now imagine a certain swordsman comparison without it.

You have a pirate that learns from roger and mimics his fighting style but now that he is his prime he still hasnt surpassed roger? It’s crazy Garp doesn’t have Conquerors cause it’s not confirmed. But if he DID use ACOC, NO ONE should survive to be talking that wasn’t defending themselves. This is thematically proven from ACOC attacks we have seen affect and faint others just aura enough (Shanks and Raleigh). Garp just has armament and is a MONSTER! Cause why would he not use COC if he had it and is saving his pupil and Luffy used it unknowingly saving Ace? As much as I want him to have it (as he should)… this makes his strength THAT much more crazy since we saw Roger and WB have ACOC and Garp was matching THEM!?!
At the end of the day, there's not a lot of people that could just tank that attack head on, not to mention if his fist made actually contact.

How can you not tell that Koby's honesty impact is weaker than Garp's Galaxy impact?
The amount of Destruction that Koby is able to generate is in a straight line. It's about the same width as his entire body. It's length is about 20 Koby's in a row. I may be off by a few it's been awhile since I looked at it. Either way you could count the amount of Kobe's that fit into that single line of Destruction.
Garp looks like a DOT compared to the impact.
Also there's a very clear difference between garp's attack and Koby's attack. Kobe's attack is close range. He makes contact with the target. Garp does not. It's a long range attack.
It's not 100% clear how it happens in the manga, but the anime shows it clearly. When GARP does Galaxy impact it sends down a little black disc that almost looks like a Bala from bleach. When that little disc makes contact with the ground, that starts the fiery shockwave.
Imagine if he was any closer to his actual Target which was the ground. What if he was only 100 yd in the air? What if vice admiral GARP punched it Point Blank just like Koby did to the hand? How much more destruction would that have caused?

Damn good attack in both versions though the anime has the style and sauce, and dont get me wrong i loved it. The K.O potential of that attack is more confusing anime wise, Its a good attack so galaxy divide and probably when he was younger these were finshers, but fodder are getting back up and more annoyed than anything. Even garp himself was annoyed that it wasn't as effective. Pretty destructive and cool though

People call out the fact that Pirates didn't die. Off course they didn't, people don't die in One Piece anyway but people should also remember the symbolism. Off course Oda wouldn't make it kill, Garp is a hero of yhe Marines. He represents heroism and the good of the Marines. Him killing random pirates won't fit the narrative of his entire character.

It is Oda's vision and that is why he drew the big scale impact in the manga and Garp was so small. The animators know exactly Oda's vision. Read the chapter and try to scale it again. LOL
