Just caught a 43" Red from the surf off Topsail island on a hand tied double drop rig. Couldn't keep shrimp on the hook through the pinfish, so I cut a pinfish in half and threw it out there. Sat for about 45mins - 1 hr and it hit on that at the back of the second slough.
They are great in current but take away a lot of the feel of a pyramid. Kinda have to check your bait periodically because you don’t truly know what’s going on down there.
You can “tune” those sputniks to release easier after setting the hook and reeling in. There’s TH-cam videos on it. Check it out, you’ll like those sputniks more.
Ironically I figured that out on my last trip. I lost some beads and that was annoying but I figured out how to bend and manipulate them to work better.
@@ericwilliamsfishing just found your channel a few days ago because I’ve been doing some research on the outer banks. Getting ready to head that way in a day or two. I was startled when I found the first video I watched of yours. I have a friend who could easily pass as your twin, both in looks and voice. I sent the link to him and he could not believe it. Along with that, he has a close friend whose name is Joey. Saw that video of you and your friend Joey and sent that link to him. “Thats just bizarre “ was his response. Funny stuff. Keep up the good work.
Great job and congrats on your first keeper surf drum! Just a note, frozen mullet will work also. Sometimes we can't catch fresh bait due to tide or whatever and we use frozen. Even cut them in half. When the drum are there they'll bite. Caught 14 a couple weeks ago 🙂
Enjoyable video right there! It's cool when everybody's playin'!
Thanks man. We had a really good time.

What an incredible catch. I was having the same issue with shrimp. It was getting destroyed...
Hell of a day🤘🏾
Thanks brotha. Gonna be hard to beat it.
Thank you for all the info in your videos. How far into the surf are you casting?
I vary every trip and try to cast a line in every zone from beach all the way to first bar. I catch fish and then switch to that with the other ones.
Nice work buddy! Haven’t got my first slot drum in the surf yet either. Looked like a fun day!
It was a questionable day with the weather but it ended up being a ton of fun.
Looks like an awesome day fishing and always fun with friends!! Congrats man
It was a great day and much needed. I had a few skunks before that so I was due. Haha
Nice job! That area has been hit or miss for me, but that’s part of the excitement. Don’t know until you try! God bless
It usually more miss than anything but I'll take a little luck too!
Work sucks but it’s a must !!! Great Day !! 🧨🧨🧨
That’s how it goes, right?
@@ericwilliamsfishing you know it !!
Love your videos! I’m a beginner and got addicted to surf fishing by your videos. Thanks for sharing 🤙
I only have a couple years experience myself but there isn't much more fun that seeing that rod go off in the rod holder. I love it too.
I'm still new to Sputniks. I don't live at the coast and so I only use them 2-3 per year. They work, but also take aome getting used to.

How do you guys stand fishing on a Sunny beach in October? Cloudy and chilly in Ohio! Nice video!
I like it at all times of year. Thanks buddy.
Good looking fish y'all were catching. Hopefully your showing went well!
It went well but we didn't move forward on that house. Thanks for the support!
Pretty work Eric.
Thanks brotha. I appreciate the support.

Thanks brotha. I appreciate the direction and I can't wait to have a 14 drum day. I might retire after that.. Haha
Jealous, I haven't been out in a minute. Surf slot reds are some of the best eats out there
I already ate half of that fish and it was soooooo good. I am gonna eat the other half this evening.
Where exactly in NC ? Can you recommend what beaches to fish ? Thank you
I'm down in Wilmington but fishing can be good up and down the state. Doesn't matter where.
