Met Lawrence back in 2010/11 as he worked as a director for a business I worked at. Absolutely lovely bloke, full of humility and time for everyone. Wishing him well for the future.
One of the best interviews I have seen on rugby, Lawrence talked a huge amount of sense. Real shame him and SCW are not involved in the RFU - what a difference it would make.
A fantastic interview and very revealing. Lawrence was a great world class player a great Man and of course a great Englishman! He also is extremely intelligent and conveys his thoughts on Rugby very effectively.
Rugby league is my #1 sport always has always will be but I've always had huge admiration for Dallaglio says it how it is & doesn't conform with the establishment,he's so comfortable in front of the camera, great episode simon
What an excellent interview. LBND has always been a Rugby hero of mine and you brought out the man inside the Rugby player. He still has so much to offer the game intelectually and the RFU are missing yet another opportunity by not seeing this potential in him.
We bumped into a few of the England players the morning after the 2003 final in Manly...unbeknown to us we had brunch in cafe next to their hotel...mad to see a couple of them getting surfing lessons as world champions...Great bunch of blokes and made my life in Sydney bearable for the next 4 years...hehehe
Facts 💯 Simon is a man of the people and gives us what we want in statistical factual form. Clobber so fresh it would make a Irish mammies washing blush
What a great interview ...I never knew any of these personal things from your past Lawrence ....still a humble man considering all that you have achieved
Great interview Simon. Lawrence is unique and outspoken, but never dismissive or petty. It is a pity that England could not harness all his drive and passion to assist any given Head Coach. He has all the qualities which Borthers lacks - in spades - but possibly does not have THE ideal overall package to be the number one guy. Director of Rugby, however …..??
So much for all of us to take from this interview. Takes more than one viewing - listening - to break down and digest. So many themes. Leadership - motivation - life. ''Leading is about being honest''. Any chance we can impose this upon the party currently 'leading' this country ... ?
Thank you for this i was in town with my Dad in Plymouth, I was 7 and the radio we could here that Johnny Wilkinson scored in the bar pub not sure. We were so happy and everyone was celebrating, but nervous as well because we didn't know how much time left. Thank you for the great Memories amazing fairy-tale stuff
Not even a big rugby fan, but this is an incredible interview and Lawrence comes across as a fantastic leader in this. Superb interview, what an inspiring man.
Love you dipping the toe in with Rugby, Simon. I’d love to hear you talk more and hold the RFU to scrutiny, as they tear parts of our game apart without anyone at the top being held to account.
The section on the current state of english rugby, just having finished the world cup 2023, where our team were extremely lucky to get where they did, everything lawrence states about the current position of our team are the exact comments we have in our pubs and workplaces in my area. So his observations, as a professional player being the same as us minions watching the game, there must be something in what he says. Thanks for this great interview with my favourite england forward.
As a young man brought up in Bethnal Green in the East End yes every one had a smile and values even the criminals also i played rugby for East London RFC and still have the virtues installe in me from those days.
Another great episode. A lot of time for Lawrence. Very interesting listening to him. Simon, can you get Calzaghe to do an interview. You’ve had Carl on, so would love to hear Joe.
I was on a journey with that glorious England team in 2003. Got into Rugby aged 12 in 2000 and was there every step of the way. Ive seen the England team evolve, reach the top of the world and disintegrate, build up and fall again. It is a very compelling story to behold.
Biggest mistake ever = not making Clive Woodward Director of Rugby after winning the World Cup - says it all about the people making decisions at high level
Best Leader of men that ever played for the English , saw him play against Ireland at landsdown as a kid , met him , a fantastic man , I just love him and really think English Rugby has lost there marbles not giving him a head coaching job , you die for this fella!
Great content as per and thank you for covering rugby. It would be great for you to get Clive Woodward on. One thing which I am interested in you asking questions about is the 2005 Lions tour. It is a real blot on Woodward's record as it was such a disaster.
Not sure how you came to the thinking that Dallaglio would not be a good interview, one of the most confident, assured and outspoken thinkers in Sport, never afraid to say what he thinks.
Bring more rugby players on please, from both codes. Take your pick. Ellery Hanley, Andy Farrell, Sam Burgess, Shaun Edwards, Kevin Sinfield to name a few.
Well, Welsh supporter here, I would like to apologise to Laurence for the Welsh D*** that spat over him after the defeat in Wembley. I’ve always held him in high esteem as a rugby player as he caused Wales loads of problems on the field as he was so good. We need more sportsmen like him and luckily rugby seems to produce many.
this was brilliant thanks - but at 26:50 - why didnt you go into detail about what happened for those of us watching who have no idea whats being discussed here ???
Never known 68mins go by so fast. What an insight into the world of English Rugby Union told by one of its best players and a wonderful chap too. I do hope they sort things out
Great interview and top guy! LD didn't really answer the question on Private Education and if that is an advantage in making gains in professional Rugby ! 🤔
This interview was good because of Dallaglio's articulacy, and in spite of the interviewer's constant and unnecessary interruptions. It would have been far better if the interviewer had spoken for 10% of the time they did. Very odd understanding of the job they are lucky to do.
Huge man. Huge nerves. Huge intellect. Thanks for letting him express himself.
Huge intellect ?? NO.
English rugby would benefit from having him in a position of influence.
@@admiralbenbow5083. So who are you, exactly? Stephen Hawking’s love-child?

It’s absolutely mad. The biggest example of blazer admin ruining elite sport. The RFU is even worse than the FA if it’s even possible.
SCW??
Sir Clive, a great leader and administrator if not the best coach and selector.
Great interview, thanks. So sorry to hear about the tragic loss of his sister. Great additional insights on Sir Clive. ❤

Simon Jordan never as a league player on this show probably never will.
Really enjoyed that, thank you. Loved him as a player, and fascinating to learn more about the intelligent man behind the player.
What an excellent interview. LBND has always been a Rugby hero of mine and you brought out the man inside the Rugby player. He still has so much to offer the game intelectually and the RFU are missing yet another opportunity by not seeing this potential in him.
Superb conversation. Thankyou gentlemen
The best guest of the lot that you've had, and I'm not really a rugby man at all. You listen to guys like him.

It's a pity he didn't pay his taxes. Maybe that disqualifies him?
One of my sporting heroes. Seen him play and captain Wasps a few times. What a man and what a player. Legend
Mine too.
Lawrence was absolutely brilliant for England. His ability and passion was 2nd to none. Another great guest from simon.👍
Big love to a real legend in rugby & a real one in Simon Jordan
Lawrence’s observations about ex players being given the England job with little or no experience is absolutely spot on. Very interesting interview.
So much for all of us to take from this interview. Takes more than one viewing - listening - to break down and digest. So many themes. Leadership - motivation - life. ''Leading is about being honest''. Any chance we can impose this upon the party currently 'leading' this country ... ?

Excellent interview
First saw him in a England sevens what a inspiration to many. We need him in the England setup
Not sure I agree or disagree with what has been talked about, but one of the best hours of listening to, thank you
Really interesting upfront..such a clear fluid speaker
Listening to him is a pleasure and actually as a casual rugby fan, I was never really sure about him.
Thank you for this. Very interesting
Huge respect for L.D. Champion sportsman. More importantly - champion person. Stunning to hear him speak. Great interview.

Always liked Lawrence's character. Solid individual and realist.

I do love Lawrence. I think he's a real educator... Honest and has a great sense of humuor.
This is the best one yet. What a man
Another great episode.I could have listened to more of Lawrence.
This is one of the best sports interviews ever.
What a great interview. Please RFU listen to Lawence’s views. He makes so much sense. Let’s hope Steve Borthwick can get England back on course.
Brilliant interview.Wish you didn’t interrupt when he was about to talk to you referring the referee in the World Cup final
Great interview with Lawrence - would be also great for you to have some rugby league personalities on your pod too Simon

Outstanding interview. Always the ones you don't expect will be good turn out to be the best.

That was fantastic with a proper bloke. Well done Simon.
Great insight into elite level sport. With just enough probing by Simon. Very enjoyable !
Cracking show. Credit to both.
Fantastic interview Simon, please keep it up 👏👏👏
Enjoyed that!
Brilliant interview and LD always talks sense. He should be England manager or head of the RFU.
Great interview. Was expecting more about Eddie Hearn though…
Simon nodding off towards the end: “Lawrence Dallaley, thank you so much for being with me “!!!!!
What a man. Totally engrossed

Bookshelf - "Leadership" by Eddie Jones - brilliant satire.
This was one of the fastest passing hours of my life. Fascinating and enthralling. And I'm not an England fan.
