The Incredible Moment Missing Elephant Bull, Mambo is Found & Reunited with His Herd!

- Elephant carer, Shepherd found a clip on his phone he managed to film during Mambo’s rescue recently and shared it with us. Watch this powerful moment for yourself as Mambo wakes up after being sedated and as he is reunited with his herd. Mother Lundi is beside herself and matriarch Tokwe also rushes in to be right by Mambo’s side. Needless to say, the herd missed him after he went awol for three days and we sent in the search party via helicopter to find him in the thick bush of our reserve.

The trumpets and rumbles!! It must have been so comforting to Mambo to hear his family. Lundi snuggling up next to his head says it all. ❤️

Mambo did NOT seem as happy to see his herd as they were to see him. The narration said that he tried to run away from his herd in the opposite direction when he first heard them coming toward him! Also, he seemed kind of stand-offish initially from Lundi's first trunk questioning (he seemingly rebuffed Lundi's first attempt to put her trunk in his mouth). I understand the reasoning behind keeping Mambo with his herd because of his acclimation with humans, but I hurt for his desire to be free and go his own way. I am confident though that Adine and his carers will continue to do what is best for Mambo, his wellbeing, and his ultimate happiness.

I have mixed feelings. It's natural to leave home and have a family which Mambo was doing with the few elephants he'd gathered to be his herd. Isn't that the ultimate success story to have them return to freedom after all?
The elephants are in good hands. You can hear one of the caregivers sobbing for joy. Thanks for giving the elephants the love & respect they deserve. It doesn't go unnoticed.

I am always overwhelmed when I hear elephants communicate, all that trumpeting and all the rumbles...I simply can not understand how some people can harm these majestic animals.

Some people in the comments seem to not have watched the other videos about Mambos disappearance and I hope they will educate themselves before accusing the amazing work of HERD.
Can't stand when rumors start that way and good work gets muddied like that. If anybody is truly worried about and also interested in these elephants - there are so many videos on this channel which explain all the stuff you are asking about.
I bet most "weird" comments are by people who just come by, leave a nasty comment and go on with their accusations and semi-knowledge elsewhere.
Thank you HERD for educating us on your rescue work and keeping the herd together - even if a rambunctious teen bull named Mambo tries to stir up things and make his rules to run away from a safe haven from time to time. 😁
What an incredible moment to witness just how attached elephant herds are to each other. Naughty Mambo surrounded by love.
Even Tokwe, who bulldozed part of the stable because of Mambo's naughtiness, was right there guarding him. So magnificent to see the herd continuously protecting each other.
This was great to see the whole herd coming to get the one who wandered off.

Thank you, Shepherd, for this remarkable footage, and thanks to all the carers for their rescue efforts. Lundi’s emotional welcome was heartwarming, but I can’t help wondering what Mambo himself was thinking and feeling after waking to find himself displaced from the wild herd he had briefly joined and suddenly reunited with his HERD family. We will never know. For now, I’m glad he’s safe once again.

This is exactly what I’m thinking. Is this state of happiness and joy in finding Mambo only temporary? Is Mambo happy during his day to day life with his herd? Will he continue to want to do what comes naturally to him? I feel bad for both sides of this coin because eventually one will become heartbroken.
I think Mambo is thinking " Was I eating Marula fruit last night. I have one h&ll of a hangover."
Why do they have to be at the rescue place? Where did they come from? Why don’t they live in the wild anymore?
Do you think they all want to charge and get out of there? Do you think they hate being pinned up?
O M G! That was one of the most beautiful moments ever, seeing Lundi reunited with her son. I can't imagine how she must've been feeling while he was away from her.
It must've been a tense moment for the carers too, especially in that thick bush and not knowing how Mambo would react when he woke up.

Poor Mambo - he wakes up and has no idea where he is or what's going on!! Then he hears Mom and he tries to flee! Just another bad dream, Mambo, but everyone is home safe and sound. Another happy day in the life of the Jabulani herd. Love these elephants and their blessed family.

There's an idea. Yeah he took off for a boys night out. 2 helicopter sorties until they found him. They drugged him until the her arrived then brought him up with family nearby

Remembering how the herd became very agitated at the homestead when Khanyisa was being integrated from the nursery because there was just one unexpected object in their home. Here, they’re coping with multiple new people involved with Mambo’s recovery as well as being in an unfamiliar part of the reserve. Considering that, their behaviour is pretty well controlled! When Lundi put her trunk into his mouth, the expression on his face seems like, “Sorry, Mum” 🥰

It literally made me cry to see Mambo found and then for Lundi to come running to him and then Tokwe, Kombura, and Khanyisa. They were all coming to get him along with the humans. Thats a family right there!!!

Yep, their trumpeting gets me all emotional!
They flap when they're hot or happy. If their tails are wagging and/or holding it straight out and their ears are flapping at the same time, you have one very happy elephant.

Beautiful, I feel the joy! What an amazing amount of ear flapping. It is incredible how easily an elephant like Mambo can disappear and be camouflaged by the foliage. I wish all people cared for each other like elephants do.

Carer Shepard, you are an angel for having captured what we all were hoping to see, the reunion of M Mambo with his HERD and loving mother, Lundi. I cannot remember seeing Lundi so overjoyed, with a smile from ear to ear, snuggling up to her son and rumbling to him affectionately in their elephant lingo. Mambo was obviously still groggy, but when he heard the last " Come, Come, Come" he recognized the familiar call. It was great to see munchkins Timisa💞and Pisa in the background with their trunks held high, sussing out the whole thing. And of course, there's our Meisiekind, who darted out of the crowd to get a bee line view of what was happening--and as always munching on some greens. I have watched this video now about 20 times. It's just fantastic. Thanks to everyone! 🙏🐘

We can feel the elephants emotion but I can’t stop wondering what Mambo was thinking at that moment, if he was relieved to be reunited with his herd or if he was feeling insecure.
I guess we will never know.

Oh how they were all upset and concerned for our Mambo. Lundi was inspexting him, and Tokwe just was going in to make sure Lundi was OK first. I feel for them. I'm so glad this got on tape. I felt bad for Mambo until the Herd came in cause he definitely was quite upset. What a good move to get the Herd to him.
