    Giles, you have shown me exactly what I’m doing wrong in this video and how to make it right. I went out and practiced bringing my hands down as fast as possible, but keeping the club head pointing up like really over-exaggerate the angle, three times before I hit the ball. And it worked. I really feel like I’m whipping the club now. I’m hitting the ball farther than ever with less effort.

      This is key Robert so hopefully this makes sense! Great to hear it’s giving you great results

    I’m on vacation so I can’t wait to get home to try this. My intuition says I’ve always had the main course and skipped the starter all together. This has led to me choking while trying to stuff my main course and drink in at once. I appreciate your explanation of the timing of the arms which I have understood poorly!

    Best video I’ve seen on the downswing. Nothing complicated. None of that leave your hands up & turn rubbish (we all know the coach I’m talking about)

  • @Gilesgillgolf

    Something I didn’t mention is pulling the arms down is shallowing the club. You don’t need to do these CRAZY shallowing moves as the best players DON’T do that 😁

    Thank you, Giles, for another great lesson - this is probably your best yet. In the past I have hit inconsistent shots when trying to pull my arms down faster. When I follow the sequence in this video, the swing feels really great (&different) and I seem to have more space to fully release the club with more arm extension.
    Plus most of have swing thoughts while playing, and you really make things simple enough to use these during a round.
    Question: I assume you can follow this sequence in hitting less that full wedge shots?

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      You 100% will have more room to release the club. Thank you so much!
      Yes the same sequencing applies just in lesser amounts

      Great question! It’s works down and towards the target slightly in transition and then as you turn start to push up it stays in the same spot or backs up slightly

    I like the idea Giles of "Sequencing" the golf swing! Playing by "rote" is fine if one plays as much golf as a PGA player does. If not, then the average golfer needs a thought process that they have to adhere to! And, what better way than to have a "sequencing thought" that you explained in this video!

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      Exactly and sequencing becomes so important to ensure this game is easier for you

  • @robertschmitt3863

    Excellent video. That clears up something I’m doing wrong. I’ve been trying to rotate faster which is making my arm position even worse. So what I need to do is pull my arms down first and then I can rotate as fast as I want. Also, thanks for the slow motion segment. I like to see the actual ball hitting swing but it needs to be slowed down so I can figure it out.

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      Rotation is only helpful when the arms/club is infront of the right hip

    Great lesson and content! I'm very impressed with your approach to teaching, which avoids or sometimes refutes a lot of the "trendy" golf buzz words which often prove to be a rabbit hole that can waste a lot of time. (e.g. obsessing over side bend and club shallowing or wrist loading etc etc). Hopefully a lot of those things are taken care of by good sequencing, or at least shouldn't be obsessed over until we can demonstrate good sequencing :)

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      Exactly that! I base all of my coaching philosophies and principles off things that are measured and proven by fact. if we can’t measure it and prove it then I’m not going to teach it. I do have a video coming out on shallowing which will be really interesting and simplifies it down

    This is perfect for your average golfer! It’s simple, factually correct & easy to understand. There are so many terrible coaches who preach messages that are completely false. The world is a better place with you coaching

    Does the lateral move go to the ball of the left foot and then the heel or ?

  • @yooper9062

    Hey how do you lower launch angle at impact? I feel like I get enough forward shaft lean but when I compare my numbers on a 9 iron for example to the tour pro average it's like a 6-10 degree difference. Tour average being 20.

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      3 main factors are angle of attack, shaft lean & the clubs you’re using.
      If you’re not getting enough shaft lean then either your face is open or you’re casting
      If you think your shaft lean & angle of attack is good then getting fit for the right shafts will lower your flight

  • @stevebatty2518

    My best striking comes from taking my time at the top and moving laterally. If I go too fast from top and rotate anything can happen!

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      The shifting before turning is that illusion of taking your time at the top but that’s where you need to get your hands down in front of you so then you can put the afterburners on

  • @llgg5929

    Recentering - Dropping arms and rotation. Agree on recentering but the most important aspect of the down swing that you clearly do and 100% of all Tour Pro's do that is not talked about - like it is a secret is FLOAT LOAD or at P4 to P4.5 and before P5 you load the wrists to the most angle you can - more is good. Because at P6 your hands should be on your trail thigh and the club should be horizontal to the ground. 95% of golfer or most everyone this is happening at well before P6 more like P5 and this is why most golfers can't even carry a drive 200 yards. Sequencing and proper sequencing is great but your sequencing can suck and if you really can Float Load it or better yet sequence the proper Float Load. You need to be teaching how to actually be loading the wrists coming down and then you would be helping people.

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      When we measure float load between P4 and P5 is actually the sudden acceleration of the hands so again it’s a feeling but it’s not real
      It’s been termed a float load because that’s the perception it gives when you pull the handle fast. Again this is not my opinion this is what we’ve measured and found as fact 😁

    • @Gilesgillgolf

      Number one correlation between how far I go for hits it is there hand speeded in the downswing as well. It’s by far the biggest correlation we have and the only way you can increase it is by pulling the hands harder. Again this is all stuff we can prove
