A small fact most people miss or overlook. The pinned comment on the morse code video was not written by her. it's a copy and paste from a reddit thread discussing the video. Personally I'd say she suffered from bulimia or other eating disorders, hence the teeth loss and bruising, and was using the hype and theories to grow interest in her channel. Given the way the videos didn't abruptly stop but petered out at the end makes me believe she stopped making videos because it was unhealthy. There's too many red flags and reaches for me to assume this is a kidnapping or there is foul play involved.
Exactly! People are forgetting the whole Marina Joyce conspiracy a couple years back. They let their emotions overshadow logic. Why would someone kidnap another person, just to make content and than let the said kidnapped person read comments and use coded messages.
As an ex-bulimic I can see her eating as a bulimic... She inhhales the food. Bulimia explain the bruises, the tooth loss and also the fact she's so skinny
If low weight is present, it would be diagnosed as anorexia binge purge. That is my diagnosis. I don't binge often though. People forget about this subtype.

The most well known version of it is, if someone eats a lot they then cause themselves to vomit so they’re body doesn’t absorb anything as to remain thin. Although this isn’t the only form, bulima is generally characterised but purging, or binge eating fallowed by purging. The disorder normally develops from “normal” diet behaviours which become more extreme. If you’ve never experienced any kind of eating disorder it probably best to think of it as like an addiction. The behaviour, particularly the more extreme examples, aren’t very rational but can be very hard to change as if something outside yourself is making you do it (not exactly what it’s like, but closest I can describe clearly). It’s worth nothing that it’s not that uncommon, and there are a lot of different forms and different behaviours associated. Not everyone that purges food will do so by vomiting, also not everyone that purges is necessarily bulimic, and not everyone that’s bulimic is because of dietary reasons or to remain skinny. However there are a lot of patterns and it’s not always unreasonable to assume these things, everyone is different but experiences do tend to overlap. For clarity, my ED developed from a different condition OCD, I was never treated for bulimia and I wouldn’t really consider myself bulimic although I’ve had a lot of overlapping symptoms. My experience is also going to be different from most because I’m male and like most eating disorders the condition is very associated with women and woman’s beauty standards, although this is changing with the normalisation of bodybuilding, it’s still very unusual for someone like me to get any kind of treatments and I’ve been very lucky to get the help I have
I have read that mercury poisoning includes loosening of the teeth. For someone who would eat large amounts of seafood containing high levels of mercury, it's possible this happened.
Although I believe the bulimia theory fits perfectly, I have to admit that you bring up an excellent point. While not THE answer, it wouldn't be a surprise if she indeed did/does have elevated levels of mercury in her system- which could, absolutely, add to any health issues/conditions she may have (or had). I think kate is suffering from bulimia, she found a way to make money off her binges and ahe took it. Her teeth falling out and the bruises can be a side effect to that. People with eating disorders often get a rise out of being called frail or too skinny, I think when people started noticing weird things she liked being the center of attention and fed into it with the messages etc.

A compiling of various theories I can think of: 1. It’s a hoax. She’s intentionally being as anonymous and enigmatic as possible to intentionally look as unsettling as possible. The reason why the “bruise” on her left arm disappeared is because of the fact that the bruise wasn’t real in the first place, but rather a result of makeup. The reason why Kate left a secret encrypted message in the captions reading “HELP” is because of the prior outlandish theory that a secret encoded message existed on a previous video, reading the Morse Code “SOS”, and is not a simple coincidence. She left after this too in order to intentionally make it mysterious. 2. It is a mental condition. An interesting theory I found while going through the comment section of ScareTheater’s overview of this topic was that she’s succumbing to a mental condition known as bulimia, an eating disorder causing strong desires to consume food while also resulting in cognitive self-destructive thoughts. 3. It’s an abusive partner. This kinda explains why the supposed “captor” is allowing her to leave various messages on the video, and why she is also allowed to edit her own videos. 4. She’s an actual hostage victim. The reason why she is allowed to edit her vids is because the captor wants her to leave encrypted messages below the captions, with the notion that Kate has nothing to save herself in the first place even after leaving a call of help, as her identity is unknown and we don’t know who she is in the first place especially given that the only medium that can be used to communicate with her is TH-cam. It’s a sadistic fetish made to humiliate her. English may also not be the first language of the captor. Personally, I feel like this is a hoax. Edit: I’ve noticed that the cut injury on her lip disappeared after the video where the cut first appeared too.

True, I think it's just a hoax. Also The male voice thing with the honey comb and stuff, her mouth literally moved as the "male voice" talked. There's evidence to why this is fake. If I was a kidnapper I would try my best to make sure the victim was isolated from the outside world to avoid getting caught. I truly believe she had/has a very severe ED. I used to bruise soooo easily (also because of anemia), I've actually lost all of my teeth now at 23, and the tapping while eating really hit me tbh. I truly hope she is safe and getting any help she may need 😔
A friend of mine on reddit was really into alternate reality games (ARGs). He had created this one persona which believed he was a werewolf who couldn't help himself, and that he was stuck in a toxic and abusive relationship with his wife and children. He would create posts to this effect and people would chime in with real concern. It generated so much interest, that people began following so they could keep tabs and get updates.. Many of those thought he was mentally ill and needed help. Some even tried to DOX him "for his own good". We used to talk a bit about it in private chats (we had met because of our shared interest in writing horror fiction). He was able to handle the barrage of complaints, accusations, etc. because he was pretty much the only one who knew that it was a game. Eventually, he lost interest and deleted his profile. This feels very similar.
As a person from Poland, I knew for a FACT that Kate Yup was NOT Joanna Jędrzejczak after I heard her speak during her first video. That’s not a Polish accent, and for most of us faking a French accent would be EXTREMELY hard
kate yup definitely had an eating disorder and was using her channel to binge it. You can see in some videos she has a toothbrush taped to her arm which a lot of bingers use to help puke the food up. I think its a good sign that shes not posting cause it probably means shes getting help

I remember a while ago, someone did a deep dive about her, and brought up that it’s possible for her to be an escape room fan. “Challenge the Room”, as seen in the picture at 10:36, is a French escape room company. With that info, it was brought up that it could be possible that Kate is purposefully playing this mysterious character and leaving messages, as means of creating a mystery, and having fun with playing it out.

i believe that she has an eating disorder. especially bulimia. as someone with bulimia, we/they tend to go a huge binges then purge it out, like a mukbang... it's very evident because of physical signs. teeth failing out, bruises, weird eating behavior, and etc. i don't think she was held captive but it's very sad to see her videos :- ( i Hope she's doing good and recovering. edit: ohm . 💀 again we don't know what really happened to her so not every thing we believe is the actual truth. don't push it on others as well. On her last video she made she said she was home alone, but the camera was being moved/shifted in a way that made it feel that it wasn’t just the table moving or something but there was actually someone there. I believe that there might’ve been something serious happening, though I am not too sure…
The whole "Kate Yup is being held captive!" is absurd to me. The breathing is obviously sounds being made by her own breathing/digestion, since it's very coherent with her lip movement. And also, since she's french, drinking french cola, using a french kitchen gadget, why would her alleged captor speak english? The HELP and SOS messages being hidden in the videos are obviously made on purpose, and again, if I was holding someone captive I definitely wouldn't let them write messages over the internet. The HELP one might go over someone's head, but the SOS is just too on the nose it's not even subtle. In my opinion, she probably suffered from an ED and probably tried capitalizing on the attention she was getting with this creepy/mysterious vibe she had going on. She attracted people not for the mukbang but for the speculation and the mystery and intrigue, and she went with it. She probably halted her videos because it was getting too severe or she finally sought proper help, and at the same time not responding/giving info about her is just another way to keep the speculation alive and keep bringing views after years. I don't know whether she's safe and sound, but she most likely was never held captive in the first place.

I completely agree and I think we all need to quit giving her attention. However, that being said, it is still such a bizarre case that I can't seem to stop thinking about it, even in bed when I am trying to sleep.
I remember how her community blew up. Never understood "if someone was making her, they wouldn't encourage us to think that!". Why not? The premise of both theories is the channel's benefit, so anyone would select for the elements of a well-performing video. Feeding into the theory audience with little nuggets of encouragement increased the channel's views, retention, comments, and watch time per video from fans dissecting each second for any undiscovered secrets. Even though her creator persona isn't her authentic self, her presence was elusive, she didn't network with other creators, and she was uninvested in quelling concerns about her channel's content, it's not really "proof" of someone who doesn't like being a youtuber when there's thousands of content creators with naturally avoidant personas who still enjoy sharing. There's not enough info to know if she orchestrated all these decisions by herself or if there was another person involved. And, whether that person pressured her at some point, or was simply an enabler. We've seen all these scenarios actually happen to other youtubers, noteably kid youtubers and family vlogs. We also have examples where content worsened their addiction, mental health, and eating disorders, whether on their own or with an exploitative person. We can see examples in all highly competitive spaces online and offline. Personally, it always felt like she is a very avoidant person who likes to share content online. It's likely true that bulemia is the reason behind her content. Some ppl that binge with others say the socializing helps them avoid rumenating negative thoughts while eating. If she had the impression that mukbangs are welcomed on youtube, and they helped her avoid negative feelings, maybe she felt like it was a safe place to share a bit of herself too. Gaining supporters and seeing people like what you're doing probably felt cool, and maybe it was enticing to see this emerging 'help' theory start to ramp up channel growth. But it was probably also super horrible to realize people are watching you at a really vulnerable moment and think you're faking it, you hate this, you're hiding something, you're not okay, someone must be making you and you're secretly begging for help because no real person would do this to themselves and think it's okay, you look like you're a prisoner, you act like you're being abused, everybody's concerned for you, you look worse than last time... Those are the same internal thoughts people with bulemia are already deal with. Imagine all your fans want to do is make long threads and giant paragraphs talking about that every single time you engage with your channel. Strangers constantly try to reach out privately, people talk about tracking down who you really are, some of them even think you're just secretly enabling a clinical eating disorder. How much would you put up with before you start to dread it and decide to disappear? :/
There’s a big assumption here that she is the one editing and uploading the videos herself. Her ‘captor’ could easily be the only one with access to the internet uploading and commenting. Shes definitely not joanna.
This all feels like it's a hoax. There's no way you'd want to hide secret messages to signal for help but not provide an inscription or at least a clue on your current location. If you know people have discovered that there was one message hidden in a video, it'd be logical to assume that they are other messages like it. There was a perfect opportunity here but it was never used.

Okay let me clear things up regarding mukbangs, because some people really look over its sentiments. Mukbang is a shorter term for meokneun bangsong which means eating broadcast. People simply broadcast themselves eating and have small conversations with their audience, as if they were eating with others. The audience enjoys the digital eating environment since eating with others is way more fun than eating alone. But then there came the sensation wherein certain broadcasters would eat an unnatural amount of food, and this even furthered with western influence. Y'all gotta realize that mukbang has a similar effect that twitch has for gaming audiences. The cringe started when people started pigging out like savages.
I've seen japanese and korean mukbags that are nothing like what ppl think they are. I watched out of simple curiosity or because i enjoyed the personality of whoever ate. It's sad that most mukbangs are full of gross pigs waisting food because sometimed they chew and spit it out, for shock factor so ppl believe they actually eat that much. The main idea of a mukbang it's actually fine, and it's not a bad idea if you like others' company, but whatever it was twisted into it's just pathetic and gross.

My theory on the situation: no she definitely not being held hostage. Here’s why. If you pay close attention to her nails, accessories, etc, they change over time. This implies that she is able to go out and willingly participate in socialization or just general interaction. If she *was* kidnapped I believe that she would have not been able to go outside without recognization. Also remember that the pandemic was not a thing during the idea of her being hostage. Ultimately this rules out masks meaning she couldn’t cover her face in anyway. I can also imagine that she could call out for help if she were to leave home with the kidnapper or someone could definitely report suspicious activity with her captor. So, what happened to her then? I believe personally she in an abusive relationship with someone. They most likely bodyshamed, etc which may have caused her to force starvation or she was forced to not eat much food and didn’t retaliate in fear of being hurt. Another thing is the tooth, the bruises, etc which both help to justify the fact that there may be an abusive relationship and an ED. It’s possible she found freedom and chose not to explain on her channel, or she was murder in the spite of her parter, parent, etc. anyone who could have a connection and relationship to her wounds. The person behind the camera could have forced Kate to eat, also justifying her quick eating and stuffing of the face, for fear of being attacked of not obliging. I’ll definitely update and do research on if there were any murders of a woman with similar features.
Okay I just found about about this but wanted to add on my two scents based off of being broke and not being able to afford getting my own nails done repeatedly, you can easily buy them yourself off of amazon and glue them on, same as with jewelry. Her captor could have easily bought her cheap shit to make her look "put together" if that makes any sense. Or even a friend or someone who is related and has access to her channel, and her friend silently talking in the background. Or it could be just background noise or shuffling.
If she's a french girl obviously living in France, the probability that a man speaking english stands behind the camera is very low. Perhaps this is all a joke or a role she played for fame. Or: I noticed, that the "whispers" from behind the camera, could, in two of the three moments, have come from her mouth while eating, because it was exactly in sync with what could be heard.

Though, I'm glad she's fine and she's still out there, two things stood up for me, at least. The way she eats is still very fast and the fact that she states that she is alone. So 3 theories could be possible right now. Either, this is all a ruse, she should be suffering from an eating disorder, or she could simply have an abusive partner trying to profit off of Kate. Here’s some perspectives: If she was indeed kidnapped, it doesn’t need to be just her to upload a video. Her kidnappers would be the ones editing the videos, uploading them, and sending the posts saying she’s alright. All SHE’D have to do is appear in the videos. The voices that could be heard could be a friend or family member instructing her on how to perform her ASMR videos. A similar thing to what Lil Tay’s brother does.

Kate Yup is "back" and there are weird stuff happening in the video. Thumbnail that say's "Am Alive" and also a video titled "I AM NOT KIDNAPPED". Wouldn't she just brush off the conspiracy theories or something to help grow her channel. In the video where she says, "Am back" and "Am Alive", she's shown to be scared of her camera man's movement, such as, camera turning of, doors closing and or opening, she flinches. This may show the lack of trust and may possibly show abuse.

It seems that everyone forget something : not everyone speaks english. My theory is that she's trying to make her videos as mysterious and creepy as possible, and the "suddenly missing" part is probably just her finding another job or using another pseudonym(s), I just hope she's ok.
My theory is that the first few signs she "was kidnapped" were just coincidences, but as she read and saw more comments about it, she decided to go along with it and help people think she was kidnapped to hopefully promote her channel. A small fact most people miss or overlook. The pinned comment on the morse code video was not written by her. it's a copy and paste from a reddit thread discussing the video. Personally I'd say she suffered from bulimia or other eating disorders, hence the teeth loss and bruising, and was using the hype and theories to grow interest in her channel. Given the way the videos didn't abruptly stop but petered out at the end makes me believe she stopped making videos because it was unhealthy. There's too many red flags and reaches for me to assume this is a kidnapping or there is foul play involved.

Bulimia is an eating disorder. The most well known version of it is, if someone eats a lot they then cause themselves to vomit so they’re body doesn’t absorb anything as to remain thin. Although this isn’t the only form, bulima is generally characterised but purging, or binge eating fallowed by purging. The disorder normally develops from “normal” diet behaviours which become more extreme.
If you’ve never experienced any kind of eating disorder it probably best to think of it as like an addiction. The behaviour, particularly the more extreme examples, aren’t very rational but can be very hard to change as if something outside yourself is making you do it (not exactly what it’s like, but closest I can describe clearly).
It’s worth nothing that it’s not that uncommon, and there are a lot of different forms and different behaviours associated. Not everyone that purges food will do so by vomiting, also not everyone that purges is necessarily bulimic, and not everyone that’s bulimic is because of dietary reasons or to remain skinny. However there are a lot of patterns and it’s not always unreasonable to assume these things, everyone is different but experiences do tend to overlap.
For clarity, my ED developed from a different condition OCD, I was never treated for bulimia and I wouldn’t really consider myself bulimic although I’ve had a lot of overlapping symptoms. My experience is also going to be different from most because I’m male and like most eating disorders the condition is very associated with women and woman’s beauty standards, although this is changing with the normalisation of bodybuilding, it’s still very unusual for someone like me to get any kind of treatments and I’ve been very lucky to get the help I have

I have read that mercury poisoning includes loosening of the teeth. For someone who would eat large amounts of seafood containing high levels of mercury, it's possible this happened.
Although I believe the bulimia theory fits perfectly, I have to admit that you bring up an excellent point. While not THE answer, it wouldn't be a surprise if she indeed did/does have elevated levels of mercury in her system- which could, absolutely, add to any health issues/conditions she may have (or had). Including, but not limited to, damage to neurologic and endocrine systems.

I think kate is suffering from bulimia, she found a way to make money off her binges and ahe took it. Her teeth falling out and the bruises can be a side effect to that.

A compiling of various theories I can think of:
1. It’s a hoax. She’s intentionally being as anonymous and enigmatic as possible to intentionally look as unsettling as possible. The reason why the “bruise” on her left arm disappeared is because of the fact that the bruise wasn’t real in the first place, but rather a result of makeup. The reason why Kate left a secret encrypted message in the captions reading “HELP” is because of the prior outlandish theory that a secret encoded message existed on a previous video, reading the Morse Code “SOS”, and is not a simple coincidence. She left after this too in order to intentionally make it mysterious.
2. It is a mental condition. An interesting theory I found while going through the comment section of ScareTheater’s overview of this topic was that she’s succumbing to a mental condition known as bulimia, an eating disorder causing strong desires to consume food while also resulting in cognitive self-destructive thoughts.
3. It’s an abusive partner. This kinda explains why the supposed “captor” is allowing her to leave various messages on the video, and why she is also allowed to edit her own videos.
4. She’s an actual hostage victim. The reason why she is allowed to edit her vids is because the captor wants her to leave encrypted messages below the captions, with the notion that Kate has nothing to save herself in the first place even after leaving a call of help, as her identity is unknown and we don’t know who she is in the first place especially given that the only medium that can be used to communicate with her is TH-cam. It’s a sadistic fetish made to humiliate her. English may also not be the first language of the captor.
Personally, I feel like this is a hoax. Edit: I’ve noticed that the cut injury on her lip disappeared after the video where the cut first appeared too.

A friend of mine on reddit was really into alternate reality games (ARGs). He had created this one persona which believed he was a werewolf who couldn't help himself, and that he was stuck in a toxic and abusive relationship with his wife and children. He would create posts to this effect and people would chime in with real concern. It generated so much interest, that people began following so they could keep tabs and get updates.. Many of those thought he was mentally ill and needed help. Some even tried to DOX him "for his own good". We used to talk a bit about it in private chats (we had met because of our shared interest in writing horror fiction). He was able to handle the barrage of complaints, accusations, etc. because he was pretty much the only one who knew that it was a game. Eventually, he lost interest and deleted his profile. This feels very similar.

The whole "Kate Yup is being held captive!" is absurd to me. The breathing is obviously sounds being made by her own breathing/digestion, since it's very coherent with her lip movement. And also, since she's french, drinking french cola, using a french kitchen gadget, why would her alleged captor speak english? The HELP and SOS messages being hidden in the videos are obviously made on purpose, and again, if I was holding someone captive I definitely wouldn't let them write messages over the internet. The HELP one might go over someone's head, but the SOS is just too on the nose it's not even subtle. In my opinion, she probably suffered from an ED and probably tried capitalizing on the attention she was getting with this creepy/mysterious vibe she had going on. She attracted people not for the mukbang but for the speculation and the mystery and intrigue, and she went with it. She probably halted her videos because it was getting too severe or she finally sought proper help, and at the same time not responding/giving info about her is just another way to keep the speculation alive and keep bringing views after years. I don't know whether she's safe and sound, but she most likely was never held captive in the first place.

I completely agree and I think we all need to quit giving her attention. However, that being said, it is still such a bizarre case that I can't seem to stop thinking about it, even in bed when I am trying to sleep.
I remember how her community blew up. Never understood "if someone was making her, they wouldn't encourage us to think that!". Why not? The premise of both theories is the channel's benefit, so anyone would select for the elements of a well-performing video. Feeding into the theory audience with little nuggets of encouragement increased the channel's views, retention, comments, and watch time per video from fans dissecting each second for any undiscovered secrets. Even though her creator persona isn't her authentic self, her presence was elusive, she didn't network with other creators, and she was uninvested in quelling concerns about her channel's content, it's not really "proof" of someone who doesn't like being a youtuber when there's thousands of content creators with naturally avoidant personas who still enjoy sharing. There's not enough info to know if she orchestrated all these decisions by herself or if there was another person involved. And, whether that person pressured her at some point, or was simply an enabler. We've seen all these scenarios actually happen to other youtubers, noteably kid youtubers and family vlogs. We also have examples where content worsened their addiction, mental health, and eating disorders, whether on their own or with an exploitative person. We can see examples in all highly competitive spaces online and offline.
Personally, it always felt like she is a very avoidant person who likes to share content online. It's likely true that bulemia is the reason behind her content. Some ppl that binge with others say the socializing helps them avoid rumenating negative thoughts while eating. If she had the impression that mukbangs are welcomed on youtube, and they helped her avoid negative feelings, maybe she felt like it was a safe place to share a bit of herself too. Gaining supporters and seeing people like what you're doing probably felt cool, and maybe it was enticing to see this emerging 'help' theory start to ramp up channel growth. But it was probably also super horrible to realize people are watching you at a really vulnerable moment and think you're faking it, you hate this, you're hiding something, you're not okay, someone must be making you and you're secretly begging for help because no real person would do this to themselves and think it's okay, you look like you're a prisoner, you act like you're being abused, everybody's concerned for you, you look worse than last time...
Those are the same internal thoughts people with bulemia are already deal with. Imagine all your fans want to do is make long threads and giant paragraphs talking about that every single time you engage with your channel. Strangers constantly try to reach out privately, people talk about tracking down who you really are, some of them even think you're just secretly enabling a clinical eating disorder. How much would you put up with before you start to dread it and decide to disappear? :/

This all feels like it's a hoax. There's no way you'd want to hide secret messages to signal for help but not provide an inscription or at least a clue on your current location. Okay let me clear things up regarding mukbangs, because some people really look over its sentiments. Mukbang is a shorter term for meokneun bangsong which means eating broadcast. People simply broadcast themselves eating and have small conversations with their audience, as if they were eating with others. The audience enjoys the digital eating environment since eating with others is way more fun than eating alone. But then there came the sensation wherein certain broadcasters would eat an unnatural amount of food, and this even furthered with western influence. Y'all gotta realize that mukbang has a similar effect that twitch has for gaming audiences. The cringe started when people started pigging out like savages.
I've seen japanese and korean mukbags that are nothing like what ppl think they are. I watched out of simple curiosity or because i enjoyed the personality of whoever ate. It's sad that most mukbangs are full of gross pigs waisting food because sometimed they chew and spit it out, for shock factor so ppl believe they actually eat that much. My theory on the situation: no she definitely not being held hostage. Here’s why. If you pay close attention to her nails, accessories, etc, they change over time. This implies that she is able to go out and willingly participate in socialization or just general interaction. If she *was* kidnapped I believe that she would have not been able to go outside without recognization. Also remember that the pandemic was not a thing during the idea of her being hostage. Ultimately this rules out masks meaning she couldn’t cover her face in anyway. I can also imagine that she could call out for help if she were to leave home with the kidnapper or someone could definitely report suspicious activity with her captor. So, what happened to her then? I believe personally she in an abusive relationship with someone. They most likely bodyshamed, etc which may have caused her to force starvation or she was forced to not eat much food and didn’t retaliate in fear of being hurt. Another thing is the tooth, the bruises, etc which both help to justify the fact that there may be an abusive relationship and an ED. It’s possible she found freedom and chose not to explain on her channel, or she was murder in the spite of her parter, parent, etc. anyone who could have a connection and relationship to her wounds. The person behind the camera could have forced Kate to eat, also justifying her quick eating and stuffing of the face, for fear of being attacked of not obliging. I’ll definitely update and do research on if there were any murders of a woman with similar features.
Okay I just found about about this but wanted to add on my two scents based off of being broke and not being able to afford getting my own nails done repeatedly, you can easily buy them yourself off of amazon and glue them on, same as with jewelry. Her captor could have easily bought her cheap shit to make her look "put together" if that makes any sense. I am not trying to be insulting but there is a plethora of very cheap "bougie" alternatives on amazon alone. If she was indeed kidnapped, it doesn’t need to be just her to upload a video. Her kidnappers would be the ones editing the videos, uploading them, and sending the posts saying she’s alright. All SHE’D have to do is appear in the videos.
