  • Cocomelon seems like an innocent animated channel, but when you peel back the layers, you realise that Cocomelon has a hidden dark side. Is it really an educational channel, or is its primary focus to make as much money as possible from those most vulnerable? How is Cocomelon impacting its viewers? Why is it so hated?
    This is, Cocomelon - The Most Evil Channel On TH-cam

      I agree with their statement about how its up to the parents to decide how long a child spends looking at TV and TH-cam, but that testing room thing is fucking horrifying. The clips of the children looking like zombies is also awful, and their method of producing the most brainrot inducing content needs to be stopped. I'm 21, and I've noticed way worse concentration and focus, but I'm an adult, I can't imagine the effects it would have on a child during their formative years. Honestly, I wouldn't be against outlawing short-form content

    As a school psychologist working in ECE-5th grade, I cannot tell you how many times I have had to have uncomfortable conversations with parents who give their kids screens all day to placate them. They get into a negative loop where their children behave worse and worse, and to get respite they just give them the thing making it worse. Parents then push it onto the schools to teach their kids how to behave, and getting true wraparound support to teach healthy behavior at school AND in the home is almost impossible - and parents don't like hearing that it's partially up to them. It's one of the many reasons our IEP / disability rate is so much higher than it should be.

      Same sir, I'm a Turkish teenager who is 16 years old. I got a little cousin who is around the age numbers mentioned in the video. I have noticed the same behavior with my cousin when he was watching translated videos of CocoMelon. Like a plant, alive but not able to react at all. Anyway sir, since you're a psychologist I want to ask a question. Nowadays majority of the teenagers in Turkey are... "weird" about their music choices. Absurdly %70 of the teenagers have (estimated number) been preferring "modern rap"(what rap songs have become. I'm not a huge fan of it it's like earrape in my opinion) over others. It's so weird like everywhere I go it's always the same various rappers' songs. Same thing on a repeat and I'm gonna be a bit critical, I don't know how they can stand these songs playing on a loop. All of a sudden rap songs' popularity skyrocketed and I person think there's something going on about this. The way kids are *attached*(yes attached, addicted isn't enough to describe) to these songs aren't normal. By chance do you possibly make a guess why teenages are attached to artists who just blow some random words to their microphones? Thanks for taking your time sir.

    i think its also worth pointing out a few things.1) we have a society that for whatever reason, has decided kids dont need quality content because theyre "dumb" and dont know what good tv is anyway. 2a?) the videos on the surface appear educational. nothing wrong with educational videos. 2b?) like mentioned in this video, it doesnt take long at all to get addicted to this video. so say you give your kid 1 hour of tv time (so 2 shows worth), just that is apparently enough to hook your kid. so you may not even get the chance to *know* its bad before it happens.
    i think its interesting, as a side note to talk about what happens when the show goes off. the kids have a melt down. Im remembering old kids shows on nick jr or sprout, and a lot of them had a "wind down", where the characters wrap up their story and/or literally say goodbye. it gives closure to the viewer and i think thats super important.

      I just had a similar convo with my sister. We grew up on shows that would be considered “too adult” nowadays. Real world type episodes. Even boy meets world- relationship issues, growing pains, sibling stuff, divorce, abandonment. Heck, even Barney was more age appropriate than these shows are now. Kids shows now are so ridiculously bubble gum with adults creepily acting like little girls and boys, baby talk, etc. I know I sound “old” and it’s a theme as we grow older… but kids shows have been so dumbed down and infantilized that it’s no wonder we see this trend in society as a whole with delayed adulthood. I grew up in the 90s and am so thankful for that because we took a major step back in so many ways with this social media era and exposing our children to something like the internet and streaming while they’re still toddlers. Memories give your youngest kids iPads when they’re 3-4 years old. Make them play outside. Tv and internet and stuff should only be for breaks or winding down. At 35, I never thought I’d feel this old so soon. But a big part of me is concerned with what we are exposing kids to so young and their mental health issues that are coming from it.

Even when he did start to watch some tv, it was dvds and videos of older kids films. Also, he wouldnt be watching this stuff for large amounts of time, or he would play with his toys while it was on. Even now that he is 8 he still doesnt watch a massive amount of tv. 0 screen time for kids younger than 4-5. If they're not capable of analysing what they're watching (abstracting who's the good guy, the bad guy, what's the conflict, what's the resolution etc.) they shouldn't be watching in the first place. Once they're at that level you should watch with them and comment. Everything else is pure nonsense especially that they should watch "more educational" content. They should spend time with their parents and family.

      Limited screen time isn't the solution, you need to be involved with your kid, not just feed and make it do homework, or your kids are just your pets. You should at least know what your kids are into, just look stuff on the internet and use your own brain, don't just look at the new and take it at face value.

Dora The Explorer, Diego Animal Rescuer, Cyber Chase, Arthur never really got into Barney, Word Girl (my sisters liked that show a lot) Scooby-Doo and I have realized that there I often perferred the older shows to modern ones at the time. I have always disliked those super saturated colors, the excessive fast edits, or the camera shake that many movies and TV shows use today, (maybe is because I grew up in the 80's), IDK I really dislike that "made for kids" look. I usually make the opposite: long scenes, little camera shake, I use more unsaturated colors. My animations are not made for little kids, but anyway, kids like my videos.

      I'm a software and graphics engineer (programmer) who has been getting into animation over the last 1 to 2 years, and I also have a 2.5-year-old boy. He was watching Cocomelon pretty heavily between 1 to 2 and had a speech delay even though he's actually very clever and understands a huge variety of words. I was also getting sick of that show and fortunately he did too. I'm actually making him his own cartoon about a snake (one of his favorite animals), and working on it in Houdini. I also hate all those shiny oversaturated colors, the egregious use of glow/bloom and sickening specular highlights making everything look like shiny plastic and the disgusting "pseudo-cuteness" of it all. I think it also misleads children to think that all animals are nice and friendly, like you can just pick up a spider and it's suddenly your friend and will sing you a song, lol. I've had to go out of my way to teach him differently ... so I'm taking his little cartoon is a different direction, with a bit more realism/darkness but presented in a funny way so that it's not too scary. I'm almost done with the rigging and IK system prototype for the main character, and planning on doing most of the creatures and environment myself too!

TV itself isn't an evil thing, Bill Nye educated kids on lots of things their parents couldn't because not everyone has a science degree. Same with shows like Muzzy, which teaches children languages like French and Spanish. Should parents plop their kid in front of an iPad for 5 hours straight? Of COURSE not. I think people are missing the point. Yes, letting a screen raise a child is neglect. But at the same time, TV has been a staple in homes for 80 years, every kid watched cartoons growing up, whether it was Tom and Jerry or Spongebob, and while there was a lot of outrage little supported the idea of different cartoons being helpful or harmful.
    This show is different, it is actually designed to prey on a children's psychology in ways that are seriously damaging. People who don't know the dangers of this show even if they limit screen time will find their child is cognitively delayed and experiencing symptoms of _literal_ addiction. Even the way they test if this addiction is achieved is dystopian and abusive.
    If you watched a single episode of Spongebob or Tom and Jerry as a child you were not being harmed as watching the equivalent length of time of Cocomelon.

Instead of telling children not to do something or do something other than whatever they are doing, it always worked to do something with excitement they can feel in front of them, I didn't even have to propose them to join in, they would ask whether they can join themselves. I got a bunch of girls aged 10 to 14 into playing tabletop role-playing games because I was playing with the boys from the class and they could see how much fun we were having and wanted to try themselves. Yes and yes. I saw an interesting video about Gen Z's over-socialization; through a technological upbringing. How we need referential humor and an excessive backlog of pop-culture knowledge to survive and thrive in any social circumstance, particularly among our peers. After the bulk of the video the guy explained how every wannabe - coming of age youtuber (Red pill or blue), discovers stoicism and accepting responsibility at every waking moment. Which is great and all but, it opens up an individual and eventually a society to be manipulated, abused and ultimately controlled because everyone goes around accepting real, genuine, systemic problems as individual issues alone.

She also would refuse to do things after a while. Sadly, the research and statistics on mental disorders shows that the people saying that too much exposure will have negative consequences in the future were, in fact, right. And it's not always the parents who are trying to shift the blame, sometimes it's people who don't even have children but have seen the effects who are trying to make people aware of the harm. The parents bear the responsibility, but so do the creators of this Coco channel. If you read up what we currently know about children developement what they are doing is, in fact, outright diabolic. In a way, it's actually even worse than selling literal chemical drugs to older children or teenagers. Just to remind you, in the past both tabacco and cocaine were believed to be completely safe and people were refusing to believe they are damaging to one's health. Cocaine was prescribed by doctors for depression and asthma lol.

  • @marionjd

    I remembered having a conversation with my mom that in the future, if i had kids, I'd never give them technology at that young of an age. Her response was, "Yeah, wait till you have kids. We'll see what you'd do." Safe to say, after all these years, while I dont have kids but have taught them for a certain period of time, i still stand by my own statement and i continuously tell people around me to do the same. I cant believe i fucking called this from so long ago. I taught kids as young as 5 back in 2018, and this was peak baby shark era. I hated baby shark so much just because it taught the kids ABSOLUTELY nothing. Sure, you learn about who's who in the family but I digress. This entire content creation for children has ALWAYS been evil. Even the kids back in 2018, the sound or the mere mention of baby shark drove them INSANE. When I tried to divert back to classes, the kids would have a FIT, a TANTRUM, wanting more. Please do not ever give your kids, at that age, this much freedom to the Internet, be it posting on social media or consuming media. I struggle with reels and attention span, but at least as an adult, i am conscious of my decisions, and i am too trying to curb this behaviour. Your child does what you give to them. Please, please, the internet is not safe. The internet and the people outside do not have you or your child's interests at heart. Having children is the conscious decision to give them the best life you can provide. Giving them an ipad and unlimited time on the internet is just a cop out answer. Kids at that age are sponges, their foundational years are so important because they pick up things extremely fast. Children are EXTREMELY smart and capable. So please, dont do this to them. Give them something that challenges their minds, and give them something more educational than this, show them the world through their eyes and not the screen. Protect your children, nurture them. Thank you for bringing this up, and using your platform, Sunny. Speak a little louder for the people in the back!!!

      @OniContraverum honestly, I am terrified if anyone wants to start beef on what I've said, and if anyone feels called out/butt hurt for it then they're just guilty of it, I suppose 😆 Coming from an education/teacher's POV, and a person who has taught kids and did my degree in teaching, please don't let the teachers do the parenting. The teachers are for teaching, not parenting. Teachers are not paid enough to do any of this. We care A LOT but there's so much teachers can do.

    • @OniContraverum
      @OniContraverum 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marionjd oh man. Ain't that the truth. I know it's always been a stigma between teachers and students and the way the educational system works. A lot of us were relentless as kids and teens and such but this is a whole different story. There's always gonna be some form of disconnect. Sometimes the teachers are horrible people, sometimes the students are horrible people. It's always been the cause of people saying things like "ah these kids today are getting worse and worse" or similarly "ah the teachers are getting worse and worse" but historically it's mostly just been people assuming that the next gen is "doomed". And I feel like that has caused a sort of "boy who cried wolf" effect on how society views these tablet-raised children; they don't take the claims seriously because there's always been that disconnect. It really sucks because now these things are actually getting to be quite scary. This is also coming from someone who had a lot of screen time as a child. I turned out fine because my mom still knew how to raise me even with my devices and video games. Still I didn't even have a proper phone till I was nearly out of highschool. These children have been spoon fed short dopamine rushes since the age of like 2 or 3, sometimes even before then and it's just really scary. I've seen toddlers at the resort I work at, sleeping in their stroller DREAM SCROLLING! It's not toooo too often but it's often enough to definitely raise concern and society and parents treat it like it's a fun joke like "haha look at what my baby is doing, isn't that funny?" It's honestly so sad and disgusting....

    • @mykayuuki
      @mykayuuki 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My brother already had 2 kids before I had my son. He owns 3 phones all with broken screens. Why? Bc his two kids (4 and 2 yrs at that time) ask for the phones and their parents give it to them because it's always easier that way than dealing with their tantrum. Then they drop it and boom, broken screen. I told him, just don't give them such an expensive device to play with? He laughed and said, "you know nothing, just wait until you have a kid". Now I have a kid too, and while he does watch YT sometimes, he's not raised by screens. When he watches YT and stumbles upon something disturbing, I instantly stop it and delete it from my history. Obviously, my kid only watches TH-cam when I'm there with him, and we always talk about what he sees. And when I'm not in the same room, I keep listening whether he watches the same familiar videos that got our approval. We also make sure to break his screen time often and invite him to play, get his books or go outside. I hope I can keep a healthy balance.
