Finally a capable, informed, professional answer to a pervasive question that I’ve been seeing in online communities since my day 1 of gunpla.

Another spot on podcast, Plamo Therapist! Really interesting topic that speaks to me very deeply. I have a significant (100+) backlog of kits (both gunpla and regular kits between my basement and those I donated to the local science fiction and fantasy museum. It think it’s enough to last for the rest of my life 😆!
I bought most of the kits during an unhappy period of my life and compulsory buying kits was my way to cope with the stress situation at that time as I knew I was not going to build them anytime soon. However, I was buying them anyway. Physical space to store the kits became an issue and also I was spending a lot of money on them, not to the point of not being able to pay bills, but my hard earned savings were spent on kits instead of something else. Luckily the hard times went away, my life took a very positive and great turn and not only I was able to return to build kits (thus reducing the backlog) but also finding a new home for many of them at the local museum, where people could actually enjoy something that otherwise was destined to be in a box in a basement. This feeling of giving others the possibility to see my work and better know and understand the world of Gundam through these gunpla has been cathartic and very rewarding. Since those “dark days” my kits purchase has been almost zero with few notable exceptions and I now enjoy building from my backlog of over 100 kits a little bit at the time. Ciao!

Yep, but I like it that way. 😆
I get excited being surrounded by plamo and just knowing I have a store's worth of choices for my next build.
Maybe I'll build it all before I kick the bucket, maybe I'll leave my kiddo a sweet inheritance. Who knows? But I AM enjoying myself.

Such an amazing video I'd say not having money for your needs is more of a spending problem than a back log problem. If you don't have money for your needs the models you have in your backlog aren't the issue adding to your backlog is though. This is totally a subject I can relate to it's my first month in the hobby and I've had at least two kits in my back log the entire time lol.

Painting changed this for me. When I was just snap building and decaling I was going through kits like crazy. Once I started painting and experimenting my backlog became way too big and I cut myself off.

Spicy topic but also, my brains. “This moneh could be used to visit family… or the moneh I have aside to see family could be used too purchase new kits” 💪
