2:22 this set actually contains three new ratchet pieces already (the two halves of the ratchet used in the hip, as well as the 1x2x1 1/3 brick with ratchet socket). Some of them have appeared in one or two other sets over the past few months, but I wouldnt be surprised if they were designed specifically for this. Not to mention the face plate also being a new piece. And those hip pieces: yeah based on what I've read in the past about Lego parts engineering, those things were probably insanely expensive compared to the average piece to develop
My wife bought me this for Fathers Day. Only complaint? No trailer, lol. However, I do have to point out, there IS a spot for the gun in truck mode. If you turn it round, so the barrel faces the back instead of the front, it fits right inbetween the legs, with the big part kind of tucked under the cabin.
I was very surprised that he transforms without disassembling. I assumed you would have to pretty much take him apart, reconfigure some stuff, and put him back together. Which sucks, but it's Lego after all so I'd be ok with it. But not only does he have the G1 style transformation, they even improved on it a bit. With the now typical waist twist so the legs look more accurate, and hiding the hands without removing them. Really hope the make other bots, and yeah, Soundwave would be an obvious choice. Takes me right back to my childhood. Prime and Soundwave were the first two Transformers I bought as a kid. Still have them.
I think when judging a piece like this, you have to keep in mind that it's Lego first, Transformers second. When you think about it that way, it's truly amazing. Also, I would buy a Lego Soundwave in an instant. That is SUCH a good idea!
Here's hoping some of the professional Legoformer builders get brought on board if this collab continues. There've been some pretty damned impressive Lego versions done of existing characters. Imagine a full on Star Saber set that even comes with a Jan Minakaze minifig.
I feel like the next set ( if we get it) will either bee bumblebee or Megatron. The catch with Megatron tho, he's probably going to be a tank, but a fictional one given LEGOs stance on war themes ( they make fictional tanks for star wars all the time). Hopefully this ain't the end tho
And then someone (most likely either Ransom Fern or Alan Yap's Lego Transformers) is gonna figure out an alternate build where he transforms into a gun.
Here is the thing with the crotch plate, it would have been very difficult to do the "unplug, turn 180* and plug back in" type of deal because of how lego pieces work. I have some experience on that type of field when it comes to contact points, the bull joint related pieces would have been a bit of a mess to use for it as they are longer than the pole grabbers (the ones that connect to the rods of some pieces)
That really is exceedingly unlikely IMO. Realistically Lego isnt going to release more than 2 of these a year, more likely 1. And they'll first go through the characters who are the best combination of popular and simple. The license will expire long before they get to the cone-heads (who probably couldnt be built in a way that would pass Lego's stability standards to begin with)
No way we’re getting any of those characters aside from Starscream. If we even get more Lego transformers they’ll probably do Bumblebee or Megatron or maaaybe Starscream
In fairness tge seekers have always been recolours of starscream so having them as options really wouldn’t be difficult for them outside of sourcing pieces And if only one exists the kid will be out in 12 hours

When I saw this it really gave my vibes of the first Masterpiece Optimus. The look and size also the accessories he came with. I really want to get mine unpacked so I can compare him to the LEGO one. And yes this Optimus is HUGE! It must be the biggest Transformer I have besides Trypticon and Unicron! I hope there will be more LEGO Transformers too! Could LEGO get away with Megatron by the fact that a LEGO gun wouldn't look like a real one? Or maybe give the barrel and orange tip than we can switch out for gray off of Pick a Brick or Bricklink? Haha. Most of the military vehicles should be ok with LEGO's rule since they have colorful and unrealistic color schemes. LEGO has done plenty of similar jets as "stunt planes," which is how the Transformers jets look. Bitzwing light be a problem because of him being mostly tan in his tank mode, but I don't see how a LEGO triple changer would be possible anyway. Soundwave is definitely possible though, and I'd like to come not just with Laserbeak, but Rumble (in blue!) and Ravage, too! They can even use the same faceplate they used for Optimus haha. Oh, you put the ion blaster in backwards in the truck mode heh.
I honestly what I see other than the mp01 design and other than just g1 in general is the design from the transformers movie game 2001 the unlockable version of the G1 Optimus prime I get really heavy vibes from it

Yeah, it seems like it's about on par with the Wei Jiang MPP10 (that oversized MP10 KO) in terms of the height. Tempted to pull the trigger on this *AND* hunt down the old Kre-O set, too.
if there is a knee join it will be 100% perfect. The eyes looks kind of off but is lego there is always some forgiveness there lol. I will get it the first day for sure. Thanks for the video. I think they can do VW Bumble Bee,, is pretty simple transformation and everyone loves Bees..and Lego has a VW beetles before... so hey lets go lol.

the gun can clip in place, you have to rotate it so the bottom faces up, flip the handle rotate so the big part of the blaster face the head, then slide forward, it should tab in. It is in the instruction. whats not in the instruction is that you can tab the backpack on the back in truc, over the gun on the studs thats stick out on the legs. the axe and the cube doesn't go anywhere onfurtunatelly
About the size, yeah he’s a BEHEMOTH. He’s the largest Lego set I’ve ever gotten, and he’s even slightly taller than my bionicle self moc, which is a foot tall. I got him for Christmas and the box is the size of my cat
the boinicle part molds are prob retird plus how would they hide the head and evrything they need new parts for the structure anyways thats why bioformers dont appear much
Just got this, and it looks amazing. It also dwarfs my other transformers. My tallest one (on display) is the Siege Thundercracker, and his fins (the ones on either side of his head) barely reach the crotch.

This piece goes more for just pure presence than full playability, because after like 10 years of history with Bionicle, some of which were quite massive I think if Lego really wanted too, they could develop some way to make it work, but he would propably end up less accurate and less big. Anyhow it's still the price that knocks me down the most. Not long ago I spend around 70$ on Tallneck and this boi costs over 180$ in our money, being almost the same size in terms of parts. Yes I am aware that the combination of Lego and Transformers brands makes the costs skyrocket just for the rights to that brand but damn, 110$ Higher price? I know that for hard fans this is gonna be an easy buy but I would rather buy a different set or even sets for that price.

The face plate was used in a different colour in one of the botanical sets but like the ratchet pieces it's likely they were made for Optimus first.

Also, the Earthrise Prime can wrap his hands around the handles of the matrix pretty well. It is even bloosh compatible.
