With all the masterpieces that have been released for optimus prime having a smaller scale g1 optimus is so refreshing and at some point I feel like this is better to handle because it is literally a TOY you can play with, unlike the masterpieces which feel so delicate a single scratch costs 1$. Having figures like these give you freedom while being accurate and good, props to hasbro. Although if they could make a leader class of this with more articulation I wouldn;t mind as well
Fantastic review! This is the figure I've been waiting for ever since I was duped into mail ordering a "movie-accurate" Optimus back in 1986, which disappointingly turned out to be just a reissue of G1 Prime.
Every G1 Optimus Prime figure released is always mentioned as the "best" until another one is released and the company says it is the "best" to promote it.
To be fair, having this one in-hand it's objectively a straight upgrade to the ER one (which despite some people saying the ER was/is the "best" I'd argue is a mediocre toy that is a straight downgrade of the Siege toy by the virtue of being a clumsy retool that copied the wrong parts of the Siege).
Man that thing is gorgeous, if I wasn't already balls deep into an MP collection, those Studio Series beauties sure are cheaper and take up waaaaay less space.
I have the power of the primes optimus and it is absolutely amazing i love it so much my omly gripe being the arms having no where to go in vehicle mode
I think it really shows how Transformers wmgineering and quality are truly in the golden age, after Prime Wars’ dark age. Most SS86 and Legacy figures are given the label of “Mini Masterpiece” more and more often
2:50 I think (and correct me if I’m wrong) that Roller docks backwards because in the show/movie, he’d shoot out of the trailer backwards and turn around really fast. I’m not absolutely sure, but I think that’s why.
It's great and all, but in terms of transformation accuracy, I'll have to give it to the Legacy United G1 Deluxe Prime. It's basically a budget Missing Link, I know, but the proportions, feel so much better on it. Plus, no faux grill lol
See, this is the problem with releasing 19 G1 Optimus Prime toys in 1 year. Plus, I already have Earthrise, Siege, and ROTB SS Optimus Prime. So I'm kinda burned out on G1 Prime figures.
This prime is one I’ve been waiting a while for and is quite easily the best figure I’ve picked up this year, and somehow got it early. I preordered it for November but it arrived two weeks ago, surprising especially with how crappy the Australian distribution has been this year. My friends are jealous 😂
11:05 I’m pretty sure you can mitigate that issue by having the Truck cab move up a bit so you put the leg/truckbed covers down and then put the cab down on it.

I must stop buying transformers so I can save for a new car lol. I just need a couple months of savings.
Really excited when this one ships in October. After all these years finally a definitive mainline G1 Prime with a proportionate trailer. Like how this review is the only one to make mention of the reverse parked Roller in the trailer. While this is leagues better than ER Prime, having gotten the reissue he's still an amazing mainline figure with my only real complaint being the awful trailer making him a Leader rather than a voyager. Other than that, prime has excellent articulation, and the transformation though involved is really fun, and fast to do. Brilliant how most of the truck stores beneath the chest opposed to to just being tabbed into the back though with 86 it's not a huge complaint but probably would have been a cleaner engineering option. Didn't know there was a reason outside the budget for the unpainted Matrix chamber, but good to know.
The thing that's keeping it from perfect for me is the 90-degree elbows. A *slightly* deeper bend would have been nice, because they did it for the knee. But it's probably the most-perfect we'll ever get in that it nails the look, has good articulation, and the transformation isn't cancerous.
If you don't have the funds for the commander class, I also recommend you get the siege optimus since I think that's also being sold again, and honestly I think it's one of the greatest transformers ever made, even better than earthrise by just a bit.
Hey Toy Guy, im a budget college student, and im looking for a Prime. Ive got some dough set aside for a commander, but im torn between Armada and Studio.
If he's ever released with less accsessories but more toy-deco/earthrise-like paint it'll be my perfect mainline prime. The accessories are a good seller but I'd take them out any day for a less cartoony more generations/toy-style deco
you mention 3 Optimus options like I won't be buying all of them myself (I have a feeling I am buying tons of Primes this december, with NVR Optimus, and G2 Optimus Primes also being ones I want to get myself)
If he had a better head, his toy deco and was released in mainline as a Leader(without the accessories) he'd absolutely be the perfect Optimus for me. Extra points if he got retooled to keep his wheels out in bot mode. I never really cared for the clean "toon" look. I like seeing as much vehicle details in bot mode. I mean Earthrise exists in a toon deco so I can only hope the reverse happens for this guy.
My only 2 gripes with the figure is the 2 cuts on the stomach and the kibble not being accurate to the cartoon, hopefully DNA will make upgrade kit to make him look more seamless.
For those asking where I got this (it's stated in the video during the opening statements)....CMDstore. it's a place anyone can buy from

It definitely looks great
If he had a better head, his toy deco and was released in mainline as a Leader(without the accessories) he'd absolutely be the perfect Optimus for me. Extra points if he got retooled to keep his wheels out in bot mode. I never really cared for the clean "toon" look. I like seeing as much vehicle details in bot mode.
I mean Earthrise exists in a toon deco so I can only hope the reverse happens for this guy.
i have this one on order, can't wait to get him.
Huh, so it's kinda like classics/henkei Prime transformation wise, neat!
can't wait for the inevitable oversized knockoff by Baiwei or BMB because we know that this figure is going to be out of stock all the time.
My only 2 gripes with the figure is the 2 cuts on the stomach and the kibble not being accurate to the cartoon, hopefully DNA will make upgrade kit to make him look more seamless.
Will look great besides ultra magnus
I cant wait for mine to come in around October!
I have at least nine or ten Optimus Primes. Oh screw it. Guess I'll get another one, and I do mean this dude.
