My son was laid to rest at Jefferson Baracks Cemetery in St. Louis.
He was a proud Marine.
I play this for him, and all those laid to rest here, every week when I come
out.

Cousin was a marine, father was a marine, grandfather was a marine, great grandfather was a marine. My grandfather, my father, and I are all marine brats. Sadly I will not be joining those in uniform this coming year, as I will attend college but I will always be there for those who fight for freedom

Being a marine is not something you do to keep up tradition. I was the only one in my family, and loved my time as a marine but not everyone has what it takes to earn the title. That is what makes the marine corps great, no participation trophies, you have to earn that EG&A.
But why don't you serve? Coward? What the heck man?
This is the version they played on Fridays at 29 palms. Never heard it anywhere else while I was in. Amazing rendition, always gave me goosebumps with how over the top it was.

Many, many years 0:01 band played this version. It began with a timpani roll. Somewhere along the way, all the bands began to play the armed forces medley as opposed to their own song alone.

These are all active duty marines
@@MilkOperator Some of them may be active duty (the OIC and Drum Major in particular), and while many of the members of the "The President's Own" may in fact be on contract, they do not go to boot camp, they don't have a combat mission, the only unit they can be assigned to is the United States Marine Band (not the Division, Wing or, Base bands), and they are given (not earned) the rank of SSgt to start with. Their rank insignia does not have the crossed rifles, but instead a lyre.

So weird that this concert took place in a town called North Bethesda, which reminds me of the video game company that created Fallout, which has this song in its soundtrack.

I can’t remember where I read it, but I remember a story from the Battle of the Choisn Reservoir, after the break out of the 5th and 7th marine regiments from the encirclement at Yudam-ni to the main marine body and airfield at Hagaru-Ri. A few platoons of British marines from 41 Commando pushed out from the perimeter at Hagaru-Ri onto the heights of the hilltop on either side of the road. As the marine column approached the perimeter, two companies of marines formed up into marching formation and marched into the perimeter singing “From the Halls of Montezuma”. After I read that story I can’t get the image of ragged, cold, hungry, and tired marines, marching in almost perfect formation with their heads held high and their chests out, singing that tune with body and spirit. And all with British marines watching from above, everytime I hear this song.
