  • It was a suicidal friend who inadvertently initiated Matt Fradd’s spiritual journey when he was twelve years old. In this video, Matt shares the first part of that story, and relates many experiences you may have been through as well while trying to figure out the universe. Big questions, unresolved conundrums, and the search for something more than this life all lead up to Matt’s most compelling cliffhanger on his Ascension Presents channel to date. Stay tuned for the second part next week.

      The Catholic church does not adhere to strict Biblical teaching. They put their man made traditions over the Word of God. Just know that. Read the New Testament of the WORD OF GOD beginning in John. They have a catechism which is their apolagetics which actually contradict the Bible. The Bible is all you need.

    I was from an agnostic family until my stepmother took me to mass. I didn’t care about it and just thought it was weird. Until very recently when the Holy Spirit presented itself to me and I first felt the love of the Lord. Now I want to be baptized. God bless

    my 20 year agnostic desert journey had the following oasis's at the end of it, each leading me closer to the Wellspring of Eternal Life:
    1.) Jordan Peterson
    2.) Father Mike
    Bishop Barron
    (last two interchangeably)
    3.) Ft. John Hollowell
    To think I began as Dutch Reformed, then atheist, then agnostic for 2 decades, then ended up aCatholic?!
    What a journey. What a destination!

      @@J3urkasaurAgreed, though I think JP offers an intellectual and obviously a psychological jumping off point for exploring the Bible and exploring religion, which may be a good place for people to begin, that can lead to Faith and towards a relationship with God. So I think he serves as a nice starting place, and if that gets you to listen to Father Mike and Bishop Barron and other Catholic speakers and TH-camrs, then maybe that's OK.

      I think God let us fall so that we can see and pursue the light of God.
      Whenever I heard conversion stories, most of the time they always find God in their most difficult and scandalous part of their life.
      Just like the life of Jesus, he gave us salvation in the road to Calvary.

    Can’t WAIT for part two! I grew up a church-going Protestant. My whole family sang in the choir. Dad was a Sunday school teacher. After getting married, I became an agnostic. Fast forward - I’m 60 years old and last year at around this time, my husband and I started RCIA. Here we are, one year later, having done all of our sacraments. We are full-fledged Catholics! I LOVE the way the Catholic Church shows the way through REASON and FAITH.

      Very good observation. Satan will not attack his own herd but will always divide the church of Christ.
      Muslims had only two sects while Christianity had thousands and thousands of sects spreading around the globe.

    I was considering Pantheism. I saw a video on the Shroud of Turin and saw all the Blood stains and scars of flagellation. Something MOVED in my heart. I was THINKING, "It must be Great to have a God who would love you that MUCH". Then I shed a tear. Then I felt I heard an answer in my heart:"You DO have a God that loves you THAT much". So much for Pantheism.

    I was part of WYD 1995 and only joined because of the free food for those who will be selected as group leaders. We got oriented and somehow I got excited that I will be joining English-speaking kids. But what changed the game was when I saw Blessed Saint Pope John Paul II and I saw him stared at me, yes at me, after running his "Pope mobile car" and broke the security. I didn't know what happened but for the next 15 minutes I was a 16-year old crying and sobbing girl at a corner even when the rest of the well-wishers who had lined waiting for him had gone back. My young heart then can only say that it was a look of love that someone cares. (I still get teary eyed each time I remember that moment.) Thank You, Lord, for the life-changing moment.

    Hey, Matt. Not sure if you'll take time to read this but we have parallel stories. I was a typical Filipino catholic who lost my way because of the lukewarmness of my family and a bunch of unanswered 'WHYs'. Eventually lost the faith and turned against everything I knew under the guise of still being a Catholic. Parents didnt know about it. So glad I took philosophy and christian civilization classes then found my way back to the Church.

      Beautiful story!
      Sometimes people are hypocrites, but still you have to remember: people are bad and God is good.
      You'll never find perfect Christians and I've learned to accept that as a fact instead of doubting if Christianity is real.

    • @nenabunena
      @nenabunena 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It was similar for me as well, I'm also from the Philippines and my Catholic family was almost non-practicing and wasn't really engaged in the Faith or the Church. My interest and background is history so I knew that Catholicism went back 2000 years unlike Protestantism and If I was going to be Christian, I would certainly be Catholic. But despite this, I just didn't feel it, I think I was agnostic. I would say I was Catholic and defended it as I would others, but I never felt it until recently tbh. I think if this is to be passed on properly, the Church, our school (Catholic), and our parents need to reaffirm and engage in it. And not be hypocritical Catholics, Catholics in name but does not follow any of it tenets like my family was/is. I can't blame either the Church or the school as they did what they could, but my family really failed in catechizing their children, even then, you can only fault them to a point, because we all grow up and have to own to our own failings not just blame our parents for everything.

    I was raised in a protestant "tradition". Even as a child, I knew these people were nuts That drove me to Atheism, which lead me to Buddhism, which lead me to Catholicism. It's a progression that makes absolute sense, if you think about it (and if you know anything about Buddhism). God really does work in mysterious and sometimes convoluted ways.

      But I don't why I always says NO or rather reject them because I'm not that religious type of people.
      I'm glad I did that because years later I find the truth and light in the Catholic Church.

    Talking about 'believing because it makes you feel good' reminded me of a time before I became Christian. I had a Catholic mom friend who I would see every day as we dropped our kids off at school. We'd spend time together but she never forced Christianity on me, just answered my questions gently. I so wanted to have her faith, to believe what she did and eventually she said "pray to the Holy Spirit for the gift of faith". I did - it wasn't instantaneous but eventually I attended RCIA and became Catholic. There was a point, I can't remember when, when I no longer doubted and trusted in Christ. To all those who say belief is a crutch I can attest to wanting to believe but knowing that I didn't, felt frustrated and lost. Asking for 'the gift of faith' and being transformed by the Holy Spirit was very real.

    as a 20+ year cop and paramedic, I was present when people took their last breath many many times. It's seldom peaceful like in the movies. I was brought up with zero religion and I had no solidly developed opinions on religion or God. I simply didn't know and being a young dude, I didn't think much about it. That being said, the things I witnessed shook me to the core and left me with no doubt whatsoever. I have no doubt that there is a hereafter. Still difficult to put some things into words.

    Hi, Matt, my 18 year old son declared when he was 14 that he doesn't believe in God. We are a devout Catholic Family. It has been a struggle. Per a priests advice, I just started searching for videos from atheists to Catholic conversion stories. I found yours and am going to send this to him. Your story seems similar to his so I'm praying this might reach him. I ask for your prayers and if you have more detailed versions of your story. Thanks, Michele

    • @Nick-cb2ht
      @Nick-cb2ht 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michele, I might be able to help. Hopefully anyway! People have many reasons as to why they don’t follow God. Most atheists i find actually do want to be proven wrong. It’s the same pattern each time. I don’t know why your son isn’t a follower as the reason is different for each person but..I transitioned from agnostic to Christian a few years ago. I asked myself these things:
      The first place to start would be to ask did Jesus exist? Yes, there are non Christian and Christian sources to suggest so. There is Josephus flavius who wrote about Jesus in the first century. Did Jesus die on the cross? Yes, the historical consensus confirms this according to scholars. It was 33-36 ad.
      When people follow God, we are not following blindly but we are following Him based on the evidence that we can access today such as the example I just said. Of course the faith is not just about evidence and there are other aspects too but it is good to get ground before exploring further.
      Now that we know He exists, what about His divinity? Is He who He said He is? One example is to look at scientific carbon dating. Yes, science helps a little. Jesus was historically born 1AD approx. according to scholars. There is a short passage in the bible you should read which was written in the 5th century bc respectively. This passage is part of the book of Isaiah. Scholars found a scroll in the Middle East which is the great Isaiah scroll. This is not the original isaiah scroll but it is in amazing condition and all the chapters are in tact. It is in Israel today in a museum. This particular scroll according to carbon dating and palaeography this scroll dates back 100 or 200 years before Jesus was born and has prophecies about Him. One prophecy in Isaiah describes His crucifixion and nature:
      Isaiah 53:5
      53 Who has believed our message
      and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
      2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
      and like a root out of dry ground.
      He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
      nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
      3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
      a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
      Like one from whom people hide their faces
      he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
      4 Surely he took up our pain
      and bore our suffering,
      yet we considered him punished by God,
      stricken by him, and afflicted.
      5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
      he was crushed for our iniquities;
      the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
      and by his wounds we are healed.
      6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
      each of us has turned to our own way;
      and the Lord has laid on him
      the iniquity of us all.
      7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
      yet he did not open his mouth;
      he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
      and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
      so he did not open his mouth.
      8 By oppression[a] and judgment he was taken away.
      Yet who of his generation protested?
      For he was cut off from the land of the living;
      for the transgression of my people he was punished.[b]
      9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
      and with the rich in his death,
      though he had done no violence,
      nor was any deceit in his mouth.
      10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
      and though the Lord makes[c] his life an offering for sin,
      he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
      and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
      11 After he has suffered,
      he will see the light of life[d] and be satisfied[e];
      by his knowledge[f] my righteous servant will justify many,
      and he will bear their iniquities.
      12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,[g]
      and he will divide the spoils with the strong,[h]
      because he poured out his life unto death,
      and was numbered with the transgressors.
      For he bore the sin of many,
      and made intercession for the transgressors.
      Hope this helps!

    This is the leap of faith an agnostic like myself had to take no matter how close I got with my mind.

The finding of the Mass to be boring and getting nothing out of it, the mixed messages, the thought that I was only Catholic because I'd been raised and conditioned to believe it, the eventual not being sure of Jesus anymore and having more of an agnostic mindset... and having a God experience "knock me for six"! Matt, I wish you could talk to my son Nathan. Very similar upbringing, he hated going to mass, too. But he and his brother & sister were required to go every week. But then my husband decided he wanted a divorce. Then six years later, after remarrying, he died from a heart attack at the age of 46. That really screwed things up for all my kids, but Nate the most. He doesn't believe in God at all. He believes in a higher power, that's it! I pray for all my kids & grandkids everyday, but especially for Nate. He was born a year after I lost my first son, who only lived for 8 hours. So I named him, Nathan, which means, gift from God. So I tell him all the time, I got you from God and you're going back to God, because I have that much faith in God & he will transform your heart and mind! By the way, I love your videos, keep up the good work! God bless you!

    that was a bad tease, making us wait a week ha ha ha 💓 You reminded me of MY Baptist Grand Mother and I think many Baptists also do this, I found her saying the Rosary in the kitchen, she was listening to Rev. Billy Graham. I was a young teen at the time - I still found it uplifting. It still took me many years to finally learn about the prayers of our Church - Roman Catholicism . I understand your reluctance toward Christianity. It's there, why do anymore??? But, as you have shown in many of your video's, there is more to Jesus than a confession and Mass - of course Eucharist is OUR focus. Too many words, thanks so much for sharing. Waiting for the next episode. Thanks muchly 💓👍🙏✝😌

    24/06/2121. Matt a cradle Catholic like myself and also from the land of Oz. Thank you for your vlogs from now and then. Like many people I have had a bit of a wander from the truth from time to time. Can anyone EXPLAIN the Eucharistic miracles which have taken place all over the world? The Lanciano one is so unreal, still happening after more than 1000 years! They are inexplicable and point to a higher power more so than anything our scientists are capable of explaining, I have had a rugged life but never lost my faith, and these events, reinforce my beliefs along, with Our Lady of Guardelupe and the mystical writings of Maria Valtorta written in the 1940's.

    Fun fact: “Roma” IS a country town, in southern Queensland, named after Lady Roma Diamantina Bowen, wife of Queensland’s first Governor, George Bowen (1859 - 1864). Lady Bowen was a Countess, originally from the Ionian islands and descended from Venetians. (George Bowen was also Governor there.) Lady Bowen was a very good and charitable woman, setting up the first maternity hospitals in Brisbane.

    I have a question to Matt Fradd, #AskMattFradd. I know that you have talked about attending the Byzantine Rite liturgy before in some of your media. I am just wondering what your thoughts on the Eastern Rites are? My girlfriend is Orthodox, she is part of the OCA here in the States, and we are currently discerning marriage, but I don't know how to approach planning our future life together. There are just so many big questions, like whether our children should be raised Catholic or Orthodox. This how situation has really been unsettling, because we are both devoted deeply to our faiths and have shared them together immensely, but both Church's want us to raise our kids in their Church. I don't know if you know how to handle this situation, but really anything would be helpful for us I guess.

    • @barborag4359
      @barborag4359 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @peaceandlove544
      @peaceandlove544 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both are rites within the catholic religion. Maybe you should go to mass together alternating, marriage should be valid in both churches, the wife should choose the parish, and your children could go to a roman catholic school that are more common while being baptized, confirmed and have their communnion in the orthodox raite, maybe?

    • @loganm1586
      @loganm1586 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well kinda… I know the Catholic Church considers all Orthodox rites to be valid, even if they aren't the best form of the sacraments, but the Orthodox Church doesn't really believe that Catholic sacraments are valid. For example, we could get married in an Orthodox church and have that marriage be valid, but we could not get married in a Catholic Church and have it be recognized as an actual marriage in both. Its the same with the other sacraments, so I think we should have our kids baptized, chrismated, and have communion in the Orthodox Church. The problem is that I don't know if it will be easy for me to teach my kids about a faith that I don't really believe in. For example, the Orthodox Church has a completely different view about original sin, and I would have to teach my kids a view that I would disagree with. It kinda leaves a tangled mess of beliefs and traditions...

They were best friends but anyway he still is a best friend of her and her husband. I mean St. Michael the ArchAngel would allow me to marry too if and only if the man understood my situation,not the rest of the worlds situation.
