Great hike/video and FANTASTIC drone zone footage!!
Wow, that was a challenging scramble! Well done - and awesome drone footage!
Beautiful footage, as usual. That looked like a pretty hard hike, even as short as it was. And, guess you have to be so careful of all those "rocks" that need restoring! 😂. Great video! ❤️
Nice. Last time I did this was about 5yrs ago, with my wife. Nice little hike.
Wow be a great sledding hill in the winter
plenty of snow up there, Estes COne seems clean. very nice Nick!!
Nick i love your hikes but this old grandma wishes you wouldn't hike alone. I'll keep you in my prayers!
Will have to do this way up to the top!
Nice drone work Nick, and the scramble looked fun too. May try that one day
Thank you! It is a fun little one. Plus it leads right up to where you can easily access the high point(s) to the south too. Those are also fun to scramble up.
You've done it again. Lily Mountain is a pedestrian hike with wonderful views which I have done several times. But nooo! You once again have chosen a most difficult route. Sometimes, such as Dear Mountain, you chose a much longer than normal route. Thanks for this different route - created in 2013. You won't ever find me on this route. Whewww!
That scar was created in 2013? I really don't know too much about it. If so I take it it was caused by the floods.
I got a new Deer Mountain vid coming soon, I did an even harder way! Lol.. it needs to be renamed Deer Tick Mountain.
Hell too steep for the ticks
Great Drone shots! Im too afraid that Ill just crash one if I ever tried one out.
Beautiful drone shots Nick. I'm heading to RMNP for the first time in late July with my son. I think we're gonna try Ute Trail, Mt. Chapin, and Chasm lake is our stretch goal.
Thank you! Good luck on your trip! Those are 3 awesome hikes you have picked out. You are guaranteed to see wildlife on at least one of those.
The rock slide going up looked comparable to the Manitou Incline without the stairs.
That's what it felt like!
Oh wow! I didn't realize that was the trail to Lily Mountain, I always wondered why people were always parked there! I know exactly where you were now! I just thought maybe it was rock climbers parking there! We have always used the RMNP trail but its more our speed anyways!
The real trailhead is just up the street another half mile or so. I cut off early on the way back and went back down the scar. But yes, always lots of people parked at the Lily Mtn trailhead. If you see cars parked where I started from they are probably overnight camping. There were two cars when I got there.. garbage everywhere. The car campers just outside Estes is getting to be a growing problem (in my opinion). I counted like 20 cars/vans pulled off the road on the drive up to do that hike. From the Mt Olympus trailhead to Lily it seemed like every pulloff had someone sleeping in it. I even saw a full on tent just before the Mall Road turn when you enter Estes. Those people leave trash and waste EVERYWHERE. I hate them.. OK, side rant out!
If you can do this, you should do 'the freeway' on the 2nd flatiron.
Really enjoying the drone footage! I captured some great stuff last time with my drone. I will be bringing it again this visit. I use a DJI Mini 2. What are you using?
I have the mini 3 pro I bought used. Works great though! I wish I could fly it in RMNP.
when was this rock slide? last winter? cs I didn't see it last year.
I think it happened in the 2013 floods but not 100% sure.
do you know when did the avalanche come down?
I really don't but that thing has been there as long as I can remember. I really didn't even know it was an avalanche scar until someone told me just a few days ago. I really don't see how an avalanche caused that skinny little strip from top to bottom but what do I know. Lol
Pretty sure that avalanche slide is a restoration site, they had signs saying stay on trail last time i did lily a year ago. Way to ignore them.
There are absolutely zero signs saying that.
Let me rephrase, I have hiked that mountain a dozen times and I have never seen a sign saying to stay on the trail for a restoration area. I have seen signs indicating private property to the north but never a sign indicating a restoration area. If they have posted a brand new sign for an old avalanche scar in the Roosevelt National Forest, it was on a section of the trail I was not on and had I seen a sign like that I would not have hiked there. But as you can see from the video it's 95% solid rock, so I sm not sure what they are restoring.
