that looks like a good warm-up bushwhack for doing the south face of Bighorn mountain
So sorry you had such an ordeal with that downed timber (and ticks!) - but, wow, that drone footage you captured was truly amazing stuff!
Thank you! The ticks are crazy this year. Probably due to the mild winter. They are everywhere!
West White Pine! That's immediately south of my house here in Glacier View. I see it every day. Climbed it a couple times, always some sort of nonsense with the downed trees but a good hike.
I would have loved to see the White Pine Mountains before the fire. But those downed trees are a mess! I wish they would fix the trail.
@@nicksangetta8874 Last time I was there was early summer 2020, things were starting to come back. But it looks like the Cameron Peak fire really destroyed everything over there.
Tick #4 was making a Custer charge to no avail lol. Nice hike, I would've turned around at the first tick because UGHHHH heebie jeebies, for sure!
There's another Colorado hiking channel, I forget the name, but they said they try to hike the sub-10,000 foot mountains in the winter to avoid the ticks, and they hike the 13ers and 14ers in the summer because the ticks don't live in the higher elevations even in summer. 'Course they often are on snowshoes in the winter.
That has slowly become our hiking philosophy over the last few seasons too.
i've had just 1 tick in 6000+ miles using that technique
I’ll make sure I start my hike above 9000 from now on 😅
Well dang, that area is a giant wildfire burn scar just like across the road with Lookout Mountain. We were planning to hike this one in the Fall to see leaf colors, but since most all the trees are burnt now, I'm going to go ahead and take this one off the list.
Before the fire I guess the White Pine mtns were a great spot to see Aspens, but not so much anymore. Lookout Mtn was my original plan but I didn't know Ballard Rd was closed and I wasn't anticipating starting at the Ranger Station. Plus the north side of Lookout was still white with snow so I decided to try for White Pine instead. There really is no plan c hike out there.
I suspect a case of entomophobia (fear of insects) 🕷️. But wow, that poor mountain really suffered from that burn. Think how many animals lost their homes.....so sad. But someday, after we're long gone, it will regenerate and be a beautiful forest once again. Great footage! ❤️
Yikes. Looks like the mountain is covered in burnt match sticks. 😮
What a HOT MESS! So sad to see the area burned like that, looked like a massive pile of pick up sticks! Tick heaven to! The fire was so long ago an it barely has even started growing back.
Looked like the bone zone up there 😂
Beautiful footage and music! But the ticks are disgusting!!😊
