Agree Remember the hiker Rachel Morin who was alone on the trail & got brutally murdered. The Cartels are grabbing people also. One hand should carry pepper spray cuz won't do any good if it's down in a backpack. Horrible things jumped out in seconds.

Right? So many "aunties" with well-intended but unsolicited advice. And Rowan is so gracious about it! I guess that's typical nowadays. When I was a new mom, complete strangers, mostly older women, did not hesitate to correct me about anything and everything from the baby blankets, my stroller, how I held my son, how much he weighed...it was endless!
Yeah, it's getting a bit ridiculous how many comments lately everyone telling you what to.. and not to do! She has raised her own child I think she is capable and aware! Given her a break everyone!! Please! 🍓

I hear what you are saying. Unfortunately, women are still the most vulnerable, having mace or equivalent is a start. Learning a martial defence art and escape techniques if tied up, etc, would also be valuable knowledge to have. Just my thoughts.
thank you for saying this! After 4 years of solo traveling I realized that being ready for someone to try to kill me every minute I'm outside isn't actually living!! You can only keep an eye out so much before it becomes too much. At this point if I die I die, I'm tired
I do feel comfortable in nature. I don't think statistical data would back up any kind of fear that walking in nature exposes you to more danger than just getting out of your car and crossing a car park. You're probably in much more danger around shopping centres and service stations than on a nature walk.
You should really think about writing a van cook book you are really talented seriously every meal you make look so delicious even things I would normally not eat good job
Just between you and me, I always carry a hefty boxcutter in my pants pocket; 2 reasons I might need it to cut the twine on my horse hay bales, open packages, cut weeds, and I always have it on me for security; 24 hrs a day(yes I sleep with it in my pocket). In this day and age you just never know...just sayin'
Nettle tea is lovely and is extremely detoxifying especially for the blood. Great antioxidant too. Just snip at the tops of the plants where the goodness is 💚
Man it’s hot! I’m in my van in Montana. The only cool place I could find is Glacier National Park and it’s 82 here. EVERYWHERE else in Montana and Idaho is 🥵! I like going to parks. Especially if I can find one with a river or lake or stream like you did. Salmon berries are yummy. Lovely hike with your puppy.🐶 somebody mentioned a cookbook. What a great merch idea!

Basmati is a long grained more flavorful and healthier rice option. Please show us when u make a spicy, tangy and delish lentil stew/curry served over fluffy steamed basmati rice... maybe when the temperatures cool down a bit. ❤

It's so good to see you traveling and exploring again. Ruby is really growing up fast. Be careful when letting Ruby in water that has algae , it can be very dangerous for Ruby . I seen where this couple took a swim in this place that had Algae in , and their dog became sick and ended up dying from the Algae it had ingested in its system . Blessings to you and Ruby

Enjoyed hanging out with y’all! I’m tethered to West Texas this summer, going through all my belongings, getting rid of most of it 😵💫. Quite the chore after living in my home for 17 years….so I enjoyed your walk about immensely! I make nori rolls a lot but have never tried mustard on them (I will now)… it looked yummy and that canned salmon looked very good. I’m not sure if you’re taking questions for your next live but I’m curious where you got your herbal knowledge and plant identification skills …. I used to own a small herb/health food store and have been an herbalist for many years…. I love to meet folks with plant/herb knowledge but it’s not very common. I wasn’t raised using herbal medicine but my parents did always let me grow plants in their veggie gardens…. I got into gardening and then herbal medicine in my late 20’s/early 30’s. Those nettles are chock full of minerals 😍 and would dry really fast hanging in your van… I drink lots of nettle tea/infusions especially during Fall and Spring allergy seasons. I experienced my dog Birdie tripping me with her leash on a run spraining a ankle scraping both knees & elbows bloody.My philosophy is if your prepared nothing bad will happen😘🌞 and yep I wasn't prepared. no bear spray ,outta water ,no snackies😭my mind kept hearing imaginary bears coming for me🤣 in my imagination had me thinking rabid squirrels and skunks to were after me and because I had no snackies Birdie ran off not to find help but to find a free dinner from a sympathetic stranger 😂

Living the life... seems so peaceful. I'm sure it can be crazy though. With the rolls you made, try using parchment paper to wrap them up and then put in the ziplock (or use plastic wrap). It just ensures the roll gets pressed together well. Have you tried that app called All trails? very handy.

I used to drink nettle tea when i was young. Me and my friends would go pick lots, boil them in water and add milk and it was lovely! We also used to use a dock leaf on our stings, rubbing it on them stopped the stinging! You brought back a lot of summers as a 10yr old that lasted until about 14yrs old. Happy times, getting stung and laughing as we still kept picking them and drinking nettle tea 😂❤
I’m worried for all in this heatwave 🔥 please don’t run out of water on your walks 🙏🏻 i can’t stand the heat, so when its hot here , I carry a little spray with water to spray in my face , and a vet cloth around my neck , it helps a lot 💦💧 I agree as some mentioned, a damp towel and a cooling mat for Ruby would be so good for her ❤ be carefull and stay safe out there 🙏🏻❤️
Many people will put a ceiling fan in to draw out heat, or fresh air in, and add insulation to their vans ceiling and sides to keep out heat. I was just reading this on "van living forum" hope it helps.
We have little pouches of cooked rice here in Australia and they're very handy for salads and when you're in a hurry or don't have cooking facilities. 💛

On hot days like this you might want to keep "minute rice" on hand since it only takes 5 min😉, & the salmon oil would be perfect on Rubys food. Thank you & Ruby for another great video!
A bamboo sushi roller works very well. Super cheap to buy. Tightens the roll. I learned on TH-cam how to roll the sushi nori using the bamboo roller. Easy and makes a nice tight roll. I put one roll in the fridge wrapped in cellophane for later to slice up. Cleanup: I tap excess food off bamboo roller. Allow excess rice stuck on roller to dry and it comes off easy. Then rinse off well and allow to air dry. Awesome exercising. Good for you. Proud of you.👏👏💃

I noticed Ruby's harness was under her instead of on top. It looked a little strange but oh well, you two managed the run and hike. I really like to here you laugh. It's so genuine and refreshing.
Coming from the hottest, driest country on earth Australia I empathise with people struggling in the heat. It is unbearable here unless indoors with air con. We need action to stop us getting hotter.
Ruby is fine . She’s not on asphalt , she’s on dirt and plants . My dogs life outdoors they don’t wear shoes . My family herded sheep for generations , and their dogs didn’t wear shoes either . Ruby is enjoying being a dog .

Another idea to keep cool without running your AC is to put a block of ice in a pan and put a battery powered fan behind it. It will cool you off

in Austin few years back algae was deadly. they check it everyday now at Red Bud Isle park which is unfenced no leash dog park.

I experienced my dog Birdie tripping me with her leash on a run spraining a ankle scraping both knees & elbows bloody.My philosophy is if your prepared nothing bad will happen😘🌞 and yep I wasn't prepared. no bear spray ,outta water ,no snackies😭my mind kept hearing imaginary bears coming for me🤣 in my imagination had me thinking rabid squirrels and skunks to were after me and because I had no snackies Birdie ran off not to find help but to find a free dinner from a sympathetic stranger 😂
I wondered why Rowan didn't fill her bottle. I thought running water would be safe....more fool a naive me, eh!
@@MsOwl22 she did fill it but like the bestest Mama Ruby got water before her Mama it was just suppose to be a quick fast run and lunch... but heat and conditions and activity will drain a person and pup

Living the life... seems so peaceful. I'm sure it can be crazy though. With the rolls you made, try using parchment paper to wrap them up and then put in the ziplock (or use plastic wrap). It just ensures the roll gets pressed together well. Have you tried that app called All trails? very handy.

I love watching your videos. Your van setup is awesome. I love how you seem to stay calm and confident. I am just getting started with van life. I have two dogs, I would love a video on how you find parking for the night. It seems like many places are not as welcoming to overnight parking. I am currently in Washington State as well. It's HOT!
I used to drink nettle tea when i was young. Me and my friends would go pick lots, boil them in water and add milk and it was lovely! We also used to use a dock leaf on our stings, rubbing it on them stopped the stinging! You brought back a lot of summers as a 10yr old that lasted until about 14yrs old. Happy times, getting stung and laughing as we still kept picking them and drinking nettle tea 😂❤
I’m worried for all in this heatwave 🔥 please don’t run out of water on your walks 🙏🏻 i can’t stand the heat, so when its hot here , I carry a little spray with water to spray in my face , and a vet cloth around my neck , it helps a lot 💦💧 I agree as some mentioned, a damp towel and a cooling mat for Ruby would be so good for her ❤ be carefull and stay safe out there 🙏🏻❤️
Many people will put a ceiling fan in to draw out heat, or fresh air in, and add insulation to their vans ceiling and sides to keep out heat. I was just reading this on "van living forum" hope it helps.
Please be careful with such a short leash. If the collar pulls on ruby's neck. Your better getting a bungie leash that doesn't pull. Stay safe ❤
We have little pouches of cooked rice here in Australia and they're very handy for salads and when you're in a hurry or don't have cooking facilities. 💛

A bamboo sushi roller works very well. Super cheap to buy. Tightens the roll. I learned on TH-cam how to roll the sushi nori using the bamboo roller. Easy and makes a nice tight roll. I put one roll in the fridge wrapped in cellophane for later to slice up. Cleanup: I tap excess food off bamboo roller. Allow excess rice stuck on roller to dry and it comes off easy. Then rinse off well and allow to air dry.

Where ever there are nettles there's usually dock leaves nearby to put on your sting and calm it down.
After boiling the nettles use the water to rinse your hair, itll make it shinny, also good for dandruff not that you have that😂
What a shame you guys couldn't get down to the water🏞️ it looked so refreshing on a hot day.. your lunch was delicious. Hey I did cook the fresh salmon on Macaroni cheese the other night for tea - with the pesto sauce (added cous cous, tomatoe and home made pickled beetroot) and it was very tasty indeed.. thank you 😊👋🇦🇺

Coming from the hottest, driest country on earth Australia I empathise with people struggling in the heat. It is unbearable here unless indoors with air con. We need action to stop us getting hotter.

Ruby is fine . She’s not on asphalt , she’s on dirt and plants . My dogs life outdoors they don’t wear shoes . My family herded sheep for generations , and their dogs didn’t wear shoes either . Ruby is enjoying being a dog .
Key is if it's too hot to put your hand on, too hot fir doggy paws
