the success of berserk's deluxe treatment spreading it's way to different publishers and series is so refreshing. i hope this becomes a trend in the manga world-- there are so many series i need in oversized format!!
I'm seriously hoping they do them for Attack on Titan.
@@Annotate_ The colossal editions were before oversized hardcovers were a thing in the manga industry, in 1-2 years they’ll do it. Kodansha will milk that cow for sure. They released it in basically every possible size so far and it’s their biggest title
@@MYTHNL90 I've got the entire series in standard size, but I'll definitely invest in the hardcover collection when Kodansha does it.
Viz should start making these Deluxe Editions as well. Vagabond in the form of a Deluxe Edition would be incredible. That way we'd also have what's often called the "big 3 of Seinen manga" complete in Deluxe format.
@@wolfbrigade8042Viz actually did with the Nausicaa boxset! But most of their hardcovers are 1.5 or 2-in-1 editions like Jojo, FotNS and FMA. IMO those 3 don’t really need bigger art but Vagabond would be amazing as an oversized deluxe
I wish vagabond got a deluxe hardcover edition the art alone deserves that treatment

Fair warning. That barcode sticker on back does not come off without leaving a stain!! I half peeled mine off but the red underneath is different colour!
It’s just a sticker, why bother peeling off?
The paper in the first edition hasn't 'yellowed', it's just different, creamy, often used in manga (and easier for an eye). Also, the binding in first edition is sewn not just glued, far from perfect, but still.

I know they're kinda cheaply made but I like the original hardcovers enough to stick with those. I don't think I could justify rebuying the entire series just to have the bigger art.

I'm doing the same, but actually because once I saw the finished product, I just don't like how it looks. For some reason his art style looks better on the rough off white pages of the original release than this smooth blinding white copier paper. Something like Berserk with a lot of shading and black in the backgrounds fits better, but idk I'm just not a fan here. Also, finding out that they're changing color every 2 books is such a weird choice.

I watched the 1st season of the anime as it aired and bought the bluray set. Then watched Season 2 last Spring and cannot wait to get it on Bluray with a Dub. I pre ordered the 1st 3 of these last week.

Absolutely gorgeous edition. I just hope Kodansha won't cheap out on the quality of later reprints like Dark Horse did with Berserk for example. With Berserk, the embossed stuff kinda got more shallow in later reprints and the later volumes in general unfortunately. Not a deal breaker by any means but it's noticable.
My binding seems to be stuck the the spine. I've stretched it several times by sitting it on the spine and flipping the pages down a couple at a time on each side but still seems to be stuck.
Any tips?
I am afriad of tugging the spine and thus pelling of the glue in order to achieve that rounded spine. Would it do any harm doing so? (Update: I gently tried tugging the spine and now half of the karton on the back of the binding came loose from it, because it ripped half way through the book, I don't know if I should return it)
I am rather new to Manga.
Thus far, I have read Berserk, Fist of the North Star, and Girl from the Otherside; Trigun and Maison Ikkoku on order.
Should I be seeking this out and are there any other recommendations from the Minties?
I am a limited Manga reader (budgets and space have to draw lines somewhere) but was introduced to this through a library copy of volume 1 of the previous hardback 2 in 1 versions and found myself catching up very quickly. I would say seek this out, it is an exceptional story. With this and Maison Ikkoku to go as you mention that's a lot of good reading in front of you!
If you like Berserk I’m convinced you would love Vinland Saga as well, they’re my 2 favorite manga. I would also recommend Vagabond to complete the holy trinity of seinen manga (seinen means male mature audience) lol. Death Note, Parasyte, Solanin, Monster and Pluto are highly recommended as well
Also all of those besides Vagabond and Solanin have great anime you can watch. Maybe you can try to watch it first to see if it’s for you
After looking up Vagabond, it is a definite lock for me; I encourage everyone to read the Five Rings
The ''yellowish'' tone is something that was there from the beginning i think. Atleast my volumes are the same.

Manga are read right-to-left unlike your average western comic/novel.
Berserk, Hellsing, Blade of the Immortal are the only other series that have been collected recently in the deluxe style, correct?

How many of them are there going to be when the series is finished?
Hard to tell, the series is not finished yet but it’s in its final arc so it should finish within a couple of years. Currently there are 13 2-in-1 released but I’m guessing there will be 10-11 deluxe editions
I. returning my copy as the binding is ultra tight and the paper is too white. A great shame.
I saw on PRH that the color of the books will not all be the same. If it's the case that will be a bummer. Omar do you know if all the books will be the same or will they be mixed?
Retailer here, Volumes 1 and 2 are the same reddish color, however Volumes 3 and 4 (and apparently Volume 5) are black-colored.

@@ChewieD2it’s because the first 6 volumes (first two deluxe editions) make up the prologue. From then on is a vastly different story

I do love how clean and simple the manga deluxe editions have been, but there is a part of me that wishes they got more creative with the cover art. Maybe do a dust jacket or something

Personally i wont do the switch for these deluxe! The 2 in 1 Hardcovers full of colors is already a really nice edition, just fine for me.
Why do they change the sound effects? It ruins the original art, makes them look off.
Is this a norm for Manga to be read Right to Left? This is so weird for me to watch

It’s made in JAPAN! They read right to left. And you can’t always just flip/mirror the art to make it left to right
yes, its been a standard for manga released in the west since at least the 90s
I noticed that more Deluxe Editions have very white paper whereas the tankobons had yellower pages.
I actually prefer the yellow because it resembles more like old mystical books with stories or myths from an exotic, mysterious country. That’s how I approach manga. I’m crazy that way.
But the bigger size sure is tempting as well.
Vinland saga is the best manga and anime hands down.
Lol, Berserk says no (in terms of manga, at least).
