Hey Nicky, I just wanted to say that I think you are doing a great job and need WAY more recognition. I have binged your channel. I think you put in so much work towards these videos and I hope your channel blows up.
Thank you for including that part about consent though. I think it gets really overlooked, so I appreciate the effort to cover it.

I admire Pocahontas as a character; I adore her design, as she's perhaps the only one of Disney's romantic human heroines who isn't tiny. It's just a shame her movie has so many problems, from historical inaccuracy to poorly paced storytelling to a regrettable lack of humor.
My own favorite Disney couples are Naveen/Tiana and Flynn/Rapunzel, and it's not particularly close (except for Lady and Tramp, but they don't meet the conditions). These two couples stand out for me because they're strong examples of the "slow burn romance." No love at first sight here. These two couples have to interact substantially before they start to fall for one another. Plus, both characters in each couple are smart, funny, and interesting; there isn't an observable "strength gap" between them. By the time we got to "Tangled," Disney had mastered the art of the romantic comedy. A shame that after only one more film (Frozen), the company pivoted away from romance altogether. I'm ready for it to come back.
EDITED (because I typed my response early in the video, and didn't know who your own top two couples would be): Oh, my God! We agree!!!
I can see why Belle/Beast rank no. 11, even though I adore Beauty and the Beast as a whole. Had the cut scenes (in which Belle is teaching the Beast to read) been included, this relationship might have ranked higher for me. However, I would have ranked them higher than Philip/Aurora, given my impatience with insta-love. Insta-love is also why I don't rank Ariel/Eric higher on my personal list, even though they do have quite a bit of chemistry; while HIS love emerges over time, HERS is love at first sight, which diminishes their glow for me.

I wish other disney animal couples were added to this list. Lady and the Tramp, for example, depicts an elite woman and a guy from the slums learning from their differences and watching their romance bloom in one of the most iconic spaghetti dinner scene in all of cinema history. Then we have Pongo and Perdita, two dalmatian lovers who would work together to save their lost puppies. Duchess and Sir Old Mally as well as Bianca and Bernard are romantic too. Of course, we can never forget Simba and Nala. From childhood friends to lovers, both worked together to save the pride.
    -
The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Ballerina doll from Fantasia 2000 also has good love story.

Fun! Fun! I love the Disney Couples!
    My list-
1: Aladdin/Jasmine. I really love their development in the series especially. They really grow, and you can see how they are one another’s strengths.
2: Ariel/Eric. They’re so adorable together and I love the additional development the live action gave Eric. He’s as much of a collector as she is! And I just think they balance one another out. And seeing how much they still love one another even after a good decade is amazing
3: Robin Hood/Maid Marian-childhood friends to lovers? Yes! I do wish we saw more of Marian in the second half of the movie. But the way they talk about one another. And props to Robin Hood for being one of the few Disney leafs that flat out says “I love you.”
4: Belle/Beast-I think people don’t give Beast enough credit for his character development. In the beginning, yeah, not a good couple. But as Beast grows, he really does improve and become a better person that you can totally see loving Belle and being loved back. (He gives her a library in a time when one book was an average week’s salary. Major props)
5: Hercules/Meg-This two are just fun. I love how his sweet naive balances out her cynicism. And anyone that goes and literally pulls you out of death…yep. Big points. And he gives up literal immortality for her.
6: Philip/Aurora-Philip is really the reason why they’re this high. I love how he was literally willing to give up his throne for a girl he loves. And them discovering the one they loved was their betrothed all along. And yeah…he defeats one of Disney’s best villains.
7: Cinderella/Charming-Cinderella 3 boosts this one up. Charming is such a lovely himbo in that movie and it really adds to this. The fact they still fall in love despite all the Stepmother’s efforts ❤
8: Kristoff/Anna-I really love Kristoff. He’s a sweetheart. Anna is such a bubbly girl and I think they balance one another well. And Kristoff actually asked before he kissed her. And his line “my love is not fragile” ❤❤
9: Eugene/Rapunzel-Honestly, they’re amazing but Tangled isn’t one of my favorite movies even though I do really like it. I like how they grow together and that lantern scene…plus, Eugene in the series really shows so much respect for her.
10: Tiana/Naveen-I think they grow well together and I simply wanted to see more of them as humans. 🤷‍♀️ I love how they encapsulate that “if it’s important to my love, it’s important to me.”
11: Milo/Kida-I think we really see a strong friendship with these two and their relationship is a slow building one which makes it feel realistic. I adore that Milo is so devoted to helping Kida save her culture.
12: Esmeralda/Phoebus-I think there’s so much fire in both of these characters. Him trying to protect her, in whatever way he can and just respect for her independence. While I don’t much like the sequel, I do like seeing them interact as a couple that way
13: Tarzan/Jane-Sweetness overload! I love that Jane isn’t this girl who takes to the jungle right away but she’s so curious and willing to learn. And she’s not a complete damsel. Seeing them lean on each is great!
14: Mulan/Shang-I just want to see them more as a couple. We really don’t see a lot of them interacting after he isn’t who she really is. Their relationship is in the beginning stages.
15: Taran/Eilowny-They led to the creation of Calla and Cavin in Gummi Bears so I must give credit where credit due. That’s really why they aren’t lower, honestly.
16: Charming/Snow White-I wish we saw more of them as a couple. There’s not much. But I do love their song together and I think it could be interesting to see more of them.
17: Pocahontas/John Smith-Eh, never liked John Smith and Pocahontas deserved better.

Im assuming the series is being factored into the analysis which DOES flesh their relationship out sustabtially and shows a partnership of equals. I would have ranked them higher than 15. And where Pocahontas is concerned her relationship with John Rolfe came off as way more natural and less forced (there I said it lol)@@kristinahuchison2511

@@cerene11 I know, but as a kid I knew the real story of Pocahontas before I even saw the movie. I legit knew John Smith was actually an old man while she was a tween, and later on she ended up marrying a different man and reuniting with John Smith when she went to London. Yeah I was kinda disappointed they weren’t lovers in reality, but at a young age my mind could discern the two stories as entirely different stories. Disney’s Pocahontas holds a very special place in my heart and she was my favorite Disney Princess as a kid, I legit was never really a fan of Belle, Ariel or Jasmine. I definitely understand how her movie rubs a lot of people the wrong way and stuff, but I’ve seen a lot of people defend the Hunchback of Notre Dame for handling the racist issues a lot better. I love that movie too, but it is a pretty racist portrayal of Romani culture and it has a song that reinforces negative Romani stereotypes. Even Aladdin has a lot of Middle Eastern stereotypes in it, including Jasmine’s outfit and how she acts, but her movie is still pretty beloved to this day. All I’m saying is Pocahontas actually had a lot of research put into her culture and how her people lived back then, its not like Disney pulled a bunch of Native American stereotypes out of their a**es and called it a day. And unfortunately, for a very long time the entertainment industry just didn’t care about cultural representation. The only movie I can think of that was culturally accurate was the Three Caballeros and it was made in an attempt to get Central and South American countries on America’s side during WWII. The other day I was reading a post about cultural significance in Lilo and Stitch, some of the scenes getting deleted because of Hawaiian stereotypes like Nani losing her job and calling it a fake Luala (?) because of their original purposes in Native Hawaiian culture and how Western culture basically ruined it. Sorry for that small rant but the point I’m making is Disney themselves didn’t really care about representation until they made Pocahontas, and while I definitely agree her movie straight up shouldn’t have been made I still appreciated its respectfulness to her culture and trying to teach an important lesson most movies (especially for kids) steer clear of. It is NOT meant to be an accurate portrayal of her real story or the harsh reality her people faced with the colonizers invading their lands and basically bullying them out. If you removed the historical problems, a lot more people wouldn’t be so hard on this movie nowadays. Heck, Anastasia is based on a real person who unfortunately died at a young age and her movie doesn’t get nearly as much backlash nowadays. And there are other movies that are inspired by real people. So I continue to defend DISNEY’S Pocahontas and John Smith because of how they affected me as a child. The fact this video had Esmerelda and Phoebus as 4 is straight up gross and insulting. Not only is she not actually a Romani woman in the original story, but Phoebus is a villain in the original story and is unfortunately the reason why she dies in the end. Even in the movie he kinda struck me as this dude only in the story to show why Quasi doesn’t win Esmerelda’s heart. He’s purely a love interest and nothing more. Pocahontas and John had actual development and real stuff they had to work through together. I don’t like how this dude had the audacity to say “their love is basically what killed Kocuom” which is flat out untrue. John didn’t even know another man loved Pocahontas and was engaged to her, and if you watch the movie you’ll see Kocuom had the choice to leave and respect her decision, but he refused to accept she loved another man. He could clearly see John wasn’t dangerous, but he refused to accept their relationship and used it as an excuse to try to murder John.

@@kristinahuchison2511 I don't have a problem discerning real life and the Disney movie either. I liked them as a couple as well, and Pocahontas was/is my favourite Disney heroine, she's just so different from everyone else. Wise, brave and strong. Many men try to control her in her movie but she doesn't let any of them. I watched the movie many times as a kid. I often see especially men call the movie and Pocahontas boring and I just don't get it... I also think one reason why the movie affected me so much was because it had a bittersweet ending when Pocahontas chose to stay with her people. It's very unusual for a Disney that usually gives the happy ending. I also think many women and men judge the movie solely based on offensiveness and not as a movie, so I think people should just straight up leave it out of their rankings if that's how they feel, because it's just kind of pointless and uninteresting to talk/listen to when everyone just says the same reason "it's offensive, it's inaccurate".
I also agree it wasn't their fault Kokoum died. Kokoum attacked John despite seeing Pocahontas was more than willing to be with him, and Thomas shot Kokoum when it became clear he would overpower and kill John. As for Anastasia, it's also rather problematic to make the revolution something Rasputin created with magic, when the revolution began because the royalty ignored (whether intentionally or not) the people's needs, so Bolseviks were able to get lot of people behind them and kill the royal family. But I don't really see people bring that up... Rasputin was also a sex pervert and as you said Anastasia died along with her family.

@@cerene11 IKR? My best friend is actually Blackfoot decent and she enjoys the movie too, saying Poca and John are one of her favorites as well. She was even saying how hot John was and it was no wonder Pocahontas chose him over Kocuom and she hated the sequel as well. Another friend of mine is of Cherokee descent and her grandmother was fully Native American but she enjoyed the movie and the live action Disney movie Squanto that was made before Pocahontas. My friend was obsessed with Pocahontas as a kid and her grandmother bought her Pocahontas stuff because of her love for the character and movie. My bestie was even cackling about the joke in Aladdin 3 where Genie is dressed as Pocahontas when jumping out of an airplane, showing how ridiculous he looks. So its okay when Aladdin makes a Native American joke, but not okay when Disney makes a culturally accurate movie of that culture?? But yeah, I’ve hesitated to watch reviews about Pocahontas because I’ve seen other TH-camrs say they either don’t like her movie OR they admit in a different video (not related to her movie) they prefer Pocahontas with Rolfe. MrEnter actually did a top ten worst Disney song video, and he included Savages from Pocahontas. I definitely understand how a lot of people took offense when the movie came out, but I think a lot of people completely missed the point of the song. ITS A VILLAIN SONG FOR CRYING THE F*CK OUT LOUD. It’s supposed to show how wrong the colonizers were for their hateful thoughts of her people and believing violence was the only way. I definitely understand why a lot of people weren’t happy how Disney painted Powhatan’s people being in the wrong as well and they were just trying to defend themselves and their lands, but his motivations was supposed to be stemming from Kocuom’s death. And Pocahontas’s speech is about getting her father to understand war wouldn’t solve anything, and the colonizers (unrealistically) agree because John was right about them. Well, John doesn’t try to control Pocahontas’s choices like her dad and Kocuom. If anything, one of the things I feel no one ever notices is that Pocahontas doesn’t let him kiss her the first time, and he respects her privacy and doesn’t try to force her into something she wasn’t comfortable with. Yes he’s really sad and confused to why she reacted that way, but he respects her feelings if she doesn’t love him. All he wants is to be her friend at least, which is why he doesn’t really flirt with her when they go to Grandmother Willow. I absolutely hate how everyone acts like John Smith is this complete a**hole and an irredeemable monster who never deserved Pocahontas’s love, and the whole “He would’ve killed her if she wasn’t pretty!” argument is so ridiculous. Yes its a bit of a problematic scene because Disney accidentally implied her beauty is what saved her, but he clearly shows early on he deeply regrets how he viewed her people and calling them uncivilized savages. He doesn’t continue to act like he’s better than them or ignore her teachings, he really wants to make up for his past mistakes and make peace with them. Say with Aladdin, I definitely see why he’s still pretty popular as a Disney prince because of how relatable he is. But, I don’t get why everyone’s okay with the fact he lies the entire movie to Jasmine. Personally I don’t think I’d be able to date someone who lied about everything just to impress me, and its pretty alarming how many people would date a chronic liar over someone who changes and listens.
But anyways, yes I always really loved Pocahontas’s more mature and passionate personality. I also find her to be more fun and goofy than so many write her off as. Just because she’s wise and mature doesn’t mean she’s allergic to fun or acts like she has a stick up her butt the entire time. The entire f*cking point of her refusing Kocuom as a husband was BECAUSE “he’s so, serious” while she was playful, curious and open minded. Even when she first saw John, she doesn’t immediately trust him and kinda made him prove he was genuinely a good person who just wanted to be her friend. And the reason WHY she chooses and falls in love with him is because he encouraged her playful nature and thought she was so awesome as she already was. Kocuom always complained she didn’t act the way he wanted, while John admired her brave and bold personality. There’s a deleted scene I am beyond pissed wasn’t in the movie, its when she dressed like an English woman and John reassured her he liked her as she truly was and she looked ridiculous as the women he’s used to. That right there is a huge green flag on how he’s changed and loves the real her. In the sequel Rolfe falls in love with her when she’s whitewashed and dressed in a stupid dress that’s so ugly, a crimson red flag and why I go berserk anytime I see someone saying Rolfe was a waay better man for her and Smith was toxic AF. And yes! Pocahontas actually has my second favorite Disney ending (first being Lion King lol) I remember being so crushed when I first saw the sad ending and so confused to why Pocahontas didn’t go with him. But looking at it as an adult, I actually really dig the bittersweet ending BECAUSE it showed actual true love and perhaps the most mature relationship of the Disney canon. Pocahontas and John Smith wanted to be together more than anything, but they belonged in different places for the time being. I just melt how he even tried insisting he wasn’t going anywhere without her and didn’t care if he died as long as he got to be with her! He completely understood her duties to her people and doesn’t try to change her mind to go with him instead. But Pocahontas valued his health more and didn’t want him to throw the rest of his life away for her. The fact she used his own words against him to convince him to do the right thing just proves how deeply he loved her and how much it broke her heart to say goodbye. The instrumental is one of Disney’s best BECAUSE of the emotional weight it carries and how it ties together If I Never Knew You and Colors of the Wind. And I feel a lot of people didn’t understand the significance of her waving her hand at him at the very end, its a callback to when she was teaching him greetings in her language and he says “I like hello better” and refuses to say goodbye.
Sorry about that rant again lol. But yeah, I think Disney’s Pocahontas is a lot deeper and more complex than a lot are willing to admit because they refuse to see it as anything more than a very insulting and disrespectful documentary of a real woman who unfortunately suffered in reality. Like yeah the movie isn’t perfect from several points of view, and frankly I’m really disappointed the movie didn’t really have a comedic character aside Wiggins (who wasn’t even in the movie that much) and Meeko and Flit’s antics. I get Disney went for a more serious tone because of it being based on a real person, but I always kinda wished they made Pocahontas and John have a more comedic relationship like Phoebus and Esmerelda. I actually am working on my own Pocahontas rewrite and story lol and it has a lot of changes from the first movie and especially the sequel lol
