- So I finally reviewed the new updated mark 7.5 Volkswagen Golf in R-Line guise. Priced at RM166,990; it's not affordable at all compared to its stablemates. But it still is a fantastic car to drive apart from the drivetrain that is beginning to show its age in refinement as Volkswagen had only improved its reliability over the years, but never improved it in terms of how it shakes a little every time it starts, the turbolag with full throttles, and the way the 7 speed DSG creeps at low speeds. Overall, if you drive the car slow, it's not worth buying, but if you drive it fast, then it's worth every single penny. But fast drivers are enthusiasts, will an enthusiast buy this, or pay for a 2 year old MK7 Golf GTI?

Yes. This is quite expensive due to cbu unit.. sad. The R line is almost same price as the tiguan CKD. Why buy a smaller car when u can get a bigger one?

But if i were to calculate based on max loan and 2% interest and 10% downpayment, the BMW 118i is only RM200 away per month from this. Will you buy this or pay RM200 more per month for the BMW?
The Volvo V40 T4 which has 190hp and 300Nm is cheaper to buy than this, and the T5 is like RM150 more per month than this.

Had to agree the price is super expensive with the 1.4 tsi.. how about mk6 GTI ? Is it really problematic?
I can’t answer your question regarding the Mk6 GTI which is a 2.0 Lt motor - however my wife had the mk6 1.8 TSI from new and it was nothing but trouble. Over a 10 year period the car did 80,000 km and we were advised by the VW dealer who serviced it that we should get rid of it after being advised that the DSG gearbox was likely to go for the 3rd time - Over 10 years the car had 5 recalls its motor replaced at a factory cost of $A20k, the DSG gearbox twice and the airbags - when we finally sold it there were 5 recall stickers attached to the inside of the drivers door - a very disappointing experience - her previous car was a 2000 Beetle which she also bought new but never had a recall and gave her no trouble

Hi Bobby. I know you have driven lots of VAG cars in various engine sizes.. From listening to this review that engine sounds really noisy. How would you describe this petrol engine compared to say the 1.4 VAG engine. Whilst I was impressed with it's performance from a 1 litre engine I can't help thinking that this engine noise would get on my nerves. Great relaxing video.
