    Here is my old Quantum model 2040 34 meg 8 inch MFM hard drive.
    Picked this unit up from ARE surplus way back in the day. It came out of a giant rack mount system. Some of the paperwork that was with it suggested that it came from the Davis Bessie nuclear power plant. I did not get the controller with it, most of the rack was all ready scrapped out.
    We used to bring this to computer shows and use it to attract a crowd and more customers to our table/s. When you power it up the old bearings would make all sorts of noise!

    Look at that High Tech drive. 34M, how will I ever fill that up?
    I remember back in the early mid 80's seeing an ad for a 1 Mega hard drive the size of 2 bread loaves, side by side, for $9995.00. We wondered how one could ever use it, especially with a Commodore 64.

      The thing that amazes me is how programs like solitaire double in size with every new version of windows yet it's the same old program and should not take up that much space..

    I have one of these, although I don't know if it still works.
    Could it theoretically be hooked up to a standard PC ST412 MFM controller that's used for 5¼" Hard Drives using adapters?
    (Similarly as there's adapters for 8" floppy drives with 50 to 34 pin adapters).

    They say quantum computing is the future. Just a lot louder than I thought it be, TBH.
    The technology seems so futuristic, that it seems like it still will be a good number of years, before these things will be in everyone's pocket. Seems like more for a girls back pocket, as one or more dangling things could get caught up in belt, if a hole developed in one's front pocket. Then, again, some pioneer might give his right nut to have an extra 30 odd Meg of phone storage space. Not sure who that is, but I am sure he is out there.

      But seriously, this is a very interesting video.
      What year was this drive made and for what target market?
      I bet it is worth some money today.

      It would be funny to make this hard drive USB

    RRL or MFM?

      @calvinthedestroyer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it is just MFM. I think it uses an st412 controller
