  • Now that the 3.7 engine is fully bedded in, it's time to enjoy it a little more. And we start by taking the car down the runway at Elvington to see what speeds we can achieve over 1/2 mile and a mile. Just before this event the car also had a complete front and rear suspension rebuild and new tyres.
    We did 5 runs in total down the runway with some dramas early on, but it all worked out in the end, enjoy the video!

    Took my 997 4s to Germany and got it up to 180mph and it started making a noise from underneath, we slowed and puled of the autobahn but could not see anything wrong, rest of the holiday we did not get above 80 mph.
    I week later back in the UK and put my foot down and it ripped the under tray of under the drivers seat, so when fitted the replacement part i have had them all laced together with tie wraps so at lest the have more holding them together

      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's probably a wise thing to do. I replaced the rear under tray the other day and it's held in with screws at the front end and plastic nuts at the rear, ideally it would be better to have screws all round. Cable ties as an extra protection is a good idea.

      ye my 2 local Indy's said it is a common fault as the studs on the bottom of the car just rust away then the wind gets in and pulls the plastic lugs apart and rips it of

      @@leeevernden there is still something very special about 996.1 - even with my 996.2 GT3 there are many things I miss about that car.

      Lee Evernden no it's longest straight about a mile ,it's 320 miles from me .fun and free ,really enjoyed your run ,looks scary .I like the idea of a speed run in my own 996 ,may be autobahn. Keep up the great content.

      @@Marvelwear Thanks, the free bit sounds good! It certainly was great fun, Autobahn would be easier I think as you wouldn't have to accelerate full throttle through all the gears and in theory have a lot more road.

      Thanks Mike, and agreed Josh's XJR is lovely!. MPG - I wish I knew, I don't think I have a trip computer on this one. I am vaguely curious so I'll work it out the old fashioned way at some point.

    Its a shame that you lost some undertray on the first run, that must of had an negative effect on the other runs.

      The Audi and me both needed a longer runway. 1 mile from a standing start goes by very quick. I saw 160mph on the speedo on the last run which was my best. The Audi is a 200mph+ car but couldn't max out either in a mile. I could always take a trip to the autobahn I suppose.

    Nice event. Good people. Some awesome machines out there and some bikes was doing crazy speeds. Would go there just to spectate. Did same event just over a year ago. Manage to reach 1/2 Mile 132mph and 157mph at mile mark in 2005 997 S with standard engine. th-cam.com/video/1RPjr8wuCis/w-d-xo.html this is not best run but just the one I recorded. I was expecting fresh 3.7 to reach 160mph.

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed these events are great and the organisers are top people. Lots of bikes there, they looked impressive but I have zero knowledge of the 2 wheeled variety. I have no doubt it could 160mph at the mile marker, but I didn't launch the car hard and I'm not the best at this sort of thing if I'm honest. What I do want to do is compare mine with a 997S in gear acceleration back to back, removing all variables, I have the means to do that but no volunteers with a 997S just yet.

    did you get any 0-60 times? what were the times to 150 over the 1 mile?

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว

      No I wasn't aware until the day that it was basically a 1 mile sprint, had I known I could have got some 1/4, 1/2 and miles times but never mind! Even so the mile times would have suffered because of the strong headwind on the day. It was great fun, I just hoped there would have been more cars there to compare speeds with.
