      Thank you, 996s certainly deserve it. I'll keep this one in tip top condition regardless and enjoy it.

    Thanks for the update. A comparison with a 996.1 GT3 would be interesting. I've read these were more like 350 hp rather than the 360 quoted.

      Yes that would be very interesting, finding one may be tricky but I'll give it a go.

    If anyone thinks what you paid was high will have a heart attack at what stateside m96/97 engine rebuilders charge. Things can easily reach astronomical numbers

    Hi Lee as mentioned before Hartech have done my 3.6 997 to 3.9 however due to work commitments i have only done 650 miles since rebuild

      Did you have to get a new crankshaft and rods to go up to 3.9? Plus how much did you pay thanks.

    Lucky man. I had a 3.4 to 3.8 convention done by nein lives off eBay, in California and motor lasted 1700 miles . Cylinder 6 is scored already. Beware of these rebuilders

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very aptly named rebuilder - 'Nein lives'. The engine in my car has been rebuilt twice now so technically on it's 3rd life. I have every confidence in this one. I hope your motor was covered by a warranty at that mileage?

    Hi Lee just wondering if at any point you’d thought about spending the money on a turbo ? If you did why did you decide to keep the 3.4 ?

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No not really. What appeals about this one is the simplicity of it mechanically and electronically, light weight, narrow body, rwd etc. The turbo throws all that in the bin. Don't get me wrong I can appreciate a turbo but it's just not what I'm looking for from my 911. The only other possible candidate would have been a 993 but I don't think they are fast enough for the price you have to pay for one of those.

    Hi with the brackin oil is it thicker or thiner?

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinner for break in: 5w40 - this is to encourage wear in the components. Then switched to 10w50.

    How are you able to be so calm about spending so much money on your 996? I would find it a bit painful!

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite simply because of how much enjoyment I get from the car, so I'm more than happy to invest.

  • @marcusgeorge9140

    I totally get why you did what you did … but with those costs why not buy a problem free 997.2 if you had that extra cash ?

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Simply because I don't want to own a 997.2. I like the 996.1 very specifically because of the blend of water cooled power with an analogue feel, and the further you go from that the further you get away from what I was looking for. All my cars have to be as engaging/involving/characterful a drive as possible, problems I can fix but if they don't tick the boxes in the first place then I don't want to own them.
