Thank you for featuring Michael Levin! I've been a fan of Dr. Levin's work for many years, ever since I stumbled upon his research exploring the fascinating intersection of biology and information theory. It's been a major source of inspiration for me, constantly challenging my assumptions about life and intelligence. I've been recommending his papers to friends and colleagues for years, eager to share the profound insights they offer. I'm thrilled to see him featured here, reaching a wider audience. This interview is a must-watch for anyone interested in not just the future of biology and medicine, but the future of our understanding of life itself. After watching this interview, I will now follow Micheal Levin with the same interest, gratitude, and respect. What a mind, what explanatory power.
I think Michael has the most promising framework of cognitive systems and consciousness. Distinction between life and non life starts to fade under this model and for me personally, intuitively feels right.
Fascinating new paradigm. Thank you for this interview, both of you. It can be that ego-dissolution and the feeling of Oneness is equivalent to this cancercells reconnecting with the whole. That would connect philosophy of consciousness under idealism with the bio-electric cognitive glue - theory of Michael Levin. It's a beautiful idea.
I think he’s just a mainstream guy who’s renowned but probably off on a lot of core things but had a very aggressive person he knew to push the theory. I don’t really think a lot of this is the same to what Darwin pushed.
We are so blinded by the collective paradigm of our society (well, both helped and blinded… but blinded to the limitations). Here we are conscious beings-and we are trained to look outward to material answers for our conscious experience. I’ve found that this is why deep introspection and shadow-work is so important. Even for a “material” scientist they are only as effective as their attitudes-their own conscious lens or mirror-will allow. Meditation and contemplation are vitally important methods to make the way to truly comprehend.
Materialism has gotten us very far externally, it's just a damn shame that we pursued that paradigm entirely. One Buddhist teacher who is versed in history said the Reformation made the Catholic Church start fighting for itself, which destroyed the strong contemplative traditions of Christianity before that. There is an alternate history where the Reformation did not happen, and as the Scientific Revolution proceeded, it was informed by Catholicism's tradition of 'looking inward' and we researched both outwards AND inwards. Then when the Industrial Revolution started, both vastly accelerated simultaneously. So Michael Levin would be mainstream today and we would be in a way less precarious state as a civilization, without the bizarre contrast between being able to instantaneously have this conversation from anywhere in the world on a magical box, then vote for Donald Trump. Huh?
consciousness is the substratum of existence. pure potential. aka love. all forms are patterns of this substratum. Michael's work is beautiful and is in accordance with the ancient Vedic texts on the Koshas
What a great conversation! Thank you. In particular, I love his definition or explanation about consciousness that's not only in the brain but in other parts of the body as well.
Such a fantastic interview. I never cease to be amazed at the implications of Michael's research. At the 50 minute mark when he had just explained how cancer cells detach from their neighbor cells and were successfully reoriented in the frog model he mentions implications for therapeutics. You then turned the conversation toward mind meld and consciousness (which was great too) but my primary interest is in the cancer therapeutic potential and how that is being studied and tested and designed into clinical trials, as I have a son with brain cancer. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
@@charliepan4055 As far as I know, Ch, Ki, and Qi are different spellings for the same word. I have read that Prana is the same thing, as well some other words from other languages. I suspect that Orgone is the same as Chi. Scalar energy is not Chi, it is longitudinal waves in the ambient electric field. Chinese tradition says that Chi comes from the stars, and I conjecture that Chi is the energy of the Nuclear Strong Force that is released by fission in the stars. I also suggest that Chi accumulates in any repeating pattern in any medium, for example in the twisted-ladder patterns of DNA strands. Hence, live bodies are enveloped in - and saturated with - Chi. Isn't this showing the relationship between us individually and the human collective. Our individuality is important needs to remain in continuity and communication with those about us. Yet, if the collective is out of alignment, it takes strong individuals to restore the alignment, the light houses.
What is in this view even more mind-blowing than before is the behavior of immune cells, macrophages for example. They swim and crawl through the body like and individual, still being friends with the body.

Attitude toward life itself makes some difference especially to the way we feel this or that - happy or depressed; confident or rather anxious and fearful. However it is not easy to change a deeply entrenched attitude. The mind can be is conditioned but we don't just want to superficially recondition our conditioning. What kind of person is it who knows "in his bones" that regardless of circumstances "everything will be alright". Someone once said the most important question is: Is the the universe a friendly place? What if it is? And how would we find that out? Who was that wise person who said, "All is well and will be well again." What kind of core attitude is this and what allows it to be in a person. What makes some people very resilient and others not so much? Is being resilient a form of intelligence?
You ask how to “find out” whether the universe is friendly…which points us outward looking at something vast outside us. And, as is suggested here, we are trained under a materialist paradigm to look in a way we’ll never see much if anything. I’ve found that those who “know in their bones” have taken some intuition around some experience of the “good, beautiful, and/or true” and contemplated that. from the micro to macro electromagnetism rules the universe gravity is a by product i saw another video of his that showed they can tell the cell what type it is with voltage
I have always believed there have been many spontaneous evolution events that were faster and more dramatic than Darwinian natural selection allows for, it's intriguing to think that these changes may have been triggered by feedback from frequency changes in the environment.
Not every cell functions as a tissue, but works independently to keep the structure healthy like glial cells. You can't force a glial cell to be a neuron in the pathway. Some cells work independently from the collective.
What does Levin think about chi kung? The art of energy. Lots of wisdom traditions found a way to inner silence and peace through energy practices (chi kung, kundalini yoga, kriya yoga, tantra, vajrayana buddhism etc). For example if I visualize connectin to heaven and earth energy I get very strong energy. A later step in the healing tao system. I dont think science can explain this now. I cant really understand it either, except that I am sure it is very real and certainly not placebo for me.
Good information let’s hope this leads to a cure. Also,I’m getting Dr. Drew commercials at points in this video and they sound remarkably similar. Thank you
Yes organic, cognitive systems are different in that they are complex open systems which defy entropy which relates to closed systems. It amazes me that so few academics have taken this into account when discussing biological systems...
Very interesting. Makes it seem almost like those kookie people with the "magnetic bracelets" and stuff for healing might have been onto something - _even if that SPECIFIC idea_ does not work by being too simplistic, they may have intuited correctly a new modality of medicine where that manipulation of electromagnetic fields _in some fashion_ could be used to treat and cure disease.
Thank you both for this wonderful exploration. I usually associate purpose with survival oriented activity. Meaning is associated with what has survival outcomes. Intelligence then is getting to the survival outcome by more than one alternative means. That cells do all these things implies Intelligence. It is still not clear to me where the blueprint , the end goal, of say, limb development is retained in collections of cells, before even considering cell differtiation and specialisation in relation to an organ, or a whole organism.
I just can't stop imagining a rat riding a bicycle.... till the sun burns out.... 🙏 It will be so good to find out more about Michael's thoughts on his concepts of engrams, retrieval and actual storage of such... Brilliant, thanks
51:16 it’s called being social and antisocial. If your entertaining external social stimuli you are connected to the external world. Different people (like different tissue) respond differently but are still ACTIVELY engaged. You could say antisocial people are a cancer but that has wild implications if your someone who wants to apply the reasoning of the level below to this one. Which as Micheal pointed out in the beginning, does not make sense.
I agree with this. Do you think this process could somehow be applied to people suffering from psychopathy (arguably the most extreme form of anti socialism?)
@Baptized_in_Fire. I wrote this because I was on mushrooms when I randomly clicked on this video. The existential tornado was visceral and difficult to chew.
"a complex system emboldens the unobservable properties of its parts" We can learn how to govern the parts from observing ourselves, and we can learn how to govern ourselves by watching our parts. If you could imagine scale as a line (its own spatial dimension,) we are observing a growth across it by extrapolating the small, and interpolating the large, applying the self to things. The self is a point within scale, but we can use large scales to drag the small scale out of its own self, by inflating it with power, like with CERN. we can drag the large towards us by diminishing its projected power, like with telescopes. We cannot know the self of the atom because we are not the atom, we cannot know the self of a planet because we are not the planet, We are lonely, in scale. How do we become an atom and come back? How do we become a planet and return? Are different selves across scales attempting, or have achieved the same process? Are aliens atoms? Are aliens planets? Is this making me schizophrenic? I only have one answer to the latter-most, and it is ever-so-slightly "yes."
I often pondered that self or different complexities emerge at certain resolutions/scales. Like way down beyond our scope could be another world. Same out beyond universal scale.
The agents that could have this additional effect include statins, metformin, doxycycline and mebendazole - not drugs normally associated with an oncologist’s armory, but ones that appear to work on metabolic pathways that are common to most cancerous growths. This drug combination has been demonstrated to interfere simultaneously with a number of proteins or signaling pathways. The effect is to kill cancer cells, prevent their multiplication or reprogram them to behave like healthy cells. Used together, the drugs could change the outlook for the 150,000 cancer patients in Britain alone, who every year are told there is nothing more that can be done to halt progress of their disease. They could also save vast sums spent on chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments that can prove ineffective for the majority of patients offered them.
"The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. The Force is an energy field created by all living things that surrounds us and pentrates us. It is the Force that binds the galaxy together"... -Zoroaster (Founder of Philosophy and Monotheism) Dr. Levin's "cognitive cones" aligns with Zoroaster's idea of "The Force".
The rather general use of the term hardware is interesting however the genomic factors and conditions whether native or emergent at its computational scale may be better defined as firmware within software and the hardware being what occupies the 3dimensional matter and factors 🤔

Two neurones connected in a feed back loop get chaotic
Yes we need to see..patients must become aware.:.very few carbs..no extra sugars in sweets..as a diet ..What is very impotant ist evitating cachexy to the most impotant issue!!!
A lot of patient just don't understand this and are even encouraged by their docs to eat what they want...I think Dr Coy saw ' s it in the right way...
from the micro to macro electromagnetism rules the universe gravity is a by product i saw another video of his that showed they can tell the cell what type it is with voltage
I have always believed there have been many spontaneous evolution events that were faster and more dramatic than Darwinian natural selection allows for, it's intriguing to think that these changes may have been triggered by feedback from frequency changes in the environment.
Brio Medical uses PEMF as one of its therapies. Interesting.
I love this guy 🌌💟
Not every cell functions as a tissue, but works independently to keep the structure healthy like glial cells.
You can't force a glial cell to be a neuron in the pathway. Some cells work independently from the collective.
Wish he'd look into cymatics for a viable theory of form
What does Levin think about chi kung? The art of energy. Lots of wisdom traditions found a way to inner silence and peace through energy practices (chi kung, kundalini yoga, kriya yoga, tantra, vajrayana buddhism etc). For example if I visualize connectin to heaven and earth energy I get very strong energy. A later step in the healing tao system. I dont think science can explain this now. I cant really understand it either, except that I am sure it is very real and certainly not placebo for me.
How can I find out more about this please?
Almost like Royal Rife was right.
I hope he was mentioned and I just missed it.
But will it make pharmaceutical companies a lot of money? If not, then what chance has it got in our current set up?
Do you think this process could somehow be applied to people suffering from psychopathy (arguably the most extreme form of anti socialism?)
finally. In the Rigveda cancer was described as an alien current called Rakshasa that is flowing through the body, causing field disturbances.
Incorrect.
@@Baptized_in_Fire. correct me please!

I do not recommend listening to this while on mushrooms.
It would make more sense lol
@Baptized_in_Fire. I wrote this because I was on mushrooms when I randomly clicked on this video. The existential tornado was visceral and difficult to chew.

"a complex system emboldens the unobservable properties of its parts"
We can learn how to govern the parts from observing ourselves, and we can learn how to govern ourselves by watching our parts.
What's YOUR point ?❤. I'm just asking ? Humans WHY ? ❤.
I'm trying to LIVE for ever ❤. What should I do ❤!
Why not increase the voltage into the cancer cells until they short circuit ? Overheat.
They could also save vast sums spent on chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments that can prove ineffective for the majority of patients offered them.
add to that Ivermectin
You're missing it . $$$$$ By design ❤😢 wake up ❤.
And that's how you cure narcissism
What are some good books that touch on this topic ?
What about the human biofield, any work or research being done there?
What is the smallest collective of cells that is capable of knowing the morphology of the organism?
Underrated….
"The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. The Force is an energy field created by all living things that surrounds us and pentrates us. It is the Force that binds the galaxy together"...
-Zoroaster (Founder of Philosophy and Monotheism)
Dr. Levin's "cognitive cones" aligns with Zoroaster's idea of "The Force".
I think it was EA-Nasir who said that
That is a force of love ❤️
@@chelmano0 "EA nasir" has not written anything... and has nothing to do with Zoroaster (The founder of Philosophy and monotheism) or Zoroastrianism.

Exellent!
The rather general use of the term hardware is interesting however the genomic factors and conditions whether native or emergent at its computational scale may be better defined as firmware within software and the hardware being what occupies the 3dimensional matter and factors 🤔
Everything is a Computation, we need to get better in randomisation and apply it to encryption, and we can infer or propagate Everything, that is all.
Looking directly in the face of design and "pre-existent laws of nature" and yet failing to see the Designer and Law Giver.
Hi,
So standing in front of a magnetically induced electrostatic field antenna could possibly grow you a third eye?
(of course if you are a time/space capable salamandra)?)
