Then my HUD started becoming blurry, and the outer portion of my view in vr started turning grey. I thought my vr hmd was broken then I realized I forgot to turn my oxygen on. For me the SLAM doesn't go into terminal stage where it goes into an angle to attack the target, it goes into a level flight from MED at 15k at 5k feet and stays there. No attack stage, what am I doing wrong? (fuze set, too mode, distance 15 or 5 nm, release type MAN, waypoint designated)
You have to mantain pressing the tdc depress button and at the same time using the tdc buttons to guide the missil. mmm now I understand, I think Matt Wagner didn't mention that very important thing in his video.
What's more amazing, The plane that I flew in the Navy carried 8 AG-84's, We loiter for hours and find our own target's. After Data linking our targets to the "Higher up's" we could then put weapon on target and go back to looking for more target's and repeat the process. The 18's needed targeting info before they left the ground/deck, they go to hit target and then have to RTB. side note: At the time of my flying service, the data link pod for fighters was still in it's infancy. Lightning wasn't even a thing yet. Our demonstrated capability in Kosovo was a major argument for the lengthened service life of my platform (Which is still flying today).
@@grimreapers Yes, P-3C. It has 10 hard points (not including the bomb bay) We could fly with 8 Harpoons or 8 SLAMs. My best time was 15h 03m, lol, long time to hold a 'expletive'.
My problem is that I can’ distinguish much on terminal phase. Can’t see the tank well enough or soon enough to guide the missile. Large buildings I can but tanks and other small targets are really hard to see
Big warning about something that's often missed in the DCS community: the open beta is, as the name suggests, a beta. Do not expect stable performance, do not expect fully developed features, and apply yourself to report bugs. The last point is important - this is the reason you're given the opportunity, to test the features to help the developers. People seem to take it as a chance to test stuff earlier, and then return the favour by complaining, not providing constructive data and critique. Only go open beta if you want to help.
Still don't get how older Jets hit targets with bombs. How do you know the coordinates for a Truck or Bunker to hit? Don't you need a visual image of the target?
Define your 'older jet' But you get it right, the base idea is Intel if you attack anything. IRL you don't hassle all around wandering 'what should I kill today', you have a command element who (in the end of a long process) will give you a target with every info available on it. Target of opportunity comes available with datalink, targeting pods and advanced comms.

@@eq1373 I can’t get the flr to work. That step never works. The part where you have the crosshairs and you can move it around to lock onto ground targets. Mine never gives me an option to turn on and I do all he steps. Anyone know why ?
@@chebb3699 I've just come to the conclusion over time that SLAMs are junk and don't work as advertised. That's probably why they were in service for only 10 years.
It’s hard to beat a JDAM or JSOW-C. It’s like the walleye imo. It’s fun to use once but there are better options out there. Perhaps they’ll add the SLAM-ATA, though I don’t think it’s out of development yet.
Little known fact: You can’t use it against ships because the E model is not called the Harpoon. If you tried it would simply bounce off. So make sure you use the AGM-84D. E stands for “except for ships”, D stands for “D ships only.”
This is a good question. It was operational around 2011 and was a joint USAF/USN program. I know the F-16 and A-10 use it. I cannot find any info on if the C model F-18 did. I will keep searching. What’s great news is that we’re getting the SLAM-ER and Paveway III for the Hornet. Edit: Ok. The Navy had the GBU-54 IOC in 2018 at the latest. The F-18C was retired in early 2019. So in all likelihood the F-18C was capable of carrying it. Will continue to search if any were actually used with the platform, but from what I have read they were both in operation at the same time. Even if that window was very small.
This weapon is awesome but complicated, controling this weapon while fying and maintaining situasional awareness is hard 😅. I think it would be nice to have second people such as WSO/RIO to control the weapon and reduce the workload.

I wonder how many hours a young, dedicated person would need to really learn to fly and USE this plane in DCS . Does anyone know how many school hours - on the ground and in the air - it takes to be a fully qualified IRL F/A18 pilot?
Can I move around/turn back to avoid any threat and still be getting video feed from the seeker via datalink pod? Also, can I use it without a datalink pod? what is the advantage/disadvantage in that?
Maybe go into more detail rather than "as you all know by now." rather than expecting that people can make the leap on how two independent systems operate with each other.

My DCS is a little bit broken ive got the steam version. But when i update the game than i got an overwritte error for handlings of every plane orso. Ive tryed to re install but no results. Can some one help me please?
I had the same issue on the most recent update through Steam. Verifying showed clean. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game (w/ the latest version) and had the same issue. I noticed clicking on Download did actually proceed a little further. Doing that a few dozens times or so eventually got me to the end of the download. Seemed a little sketchy, but the game seems to work fine. Good luck.

the bird might be getting old, but for sheer reliability & versatility, the F/A-18 is still my 'go to' aircraft.

Could be the altitude of your waypoint? Ive had issues with that in the Jeff

in my case everything goes right until a few feet of the impact the missile suddenly turn down and miss the target :/
For some reason I can't enter an elevation on PP mode, so my missile always comes a little short. On TOO it works perfectly fine. Thx

so when i use the tpod on the SLAM, it doesnt work for me yet when i use the AG radar it works sort... cant get the self guiding screen

Do we know what the Communication range is for the Datalink pod to Missile? If we fire then turn cold right away will it be too far for signal?
Would be interesting to know since the SLAM-ER (84H/K) has a range of 170nm and IIRC still uses that AWW-13 DL pod.

Having trouble with this missile, following this, putting the crosshairs on the target, and the missile just will not turn to it.
hm, i think a designated waypoint as targetpoint with "precise" input isnt worse this t-pod ?
precise waypoints have same quality compared to tgp input. and both are very very good.

We got a slam
They can use it in low fly mode for engaging S-300 sam systems very capable missile. SLAM-ER is way better if they are going to add one.

If things go as well as possible, Stable gets updated a week after the OB. Though they did it with less time in between last week with the SC release.

Try verifying your files (DCS>left click>propertys>files>verify files)

Save your profiles. (One profile per controls column unfortunately).

Now if only there was a way to make it fly to a waypoint, then turn to a known bearing and range from there (like a harpoon) and look for a laser spot
why not use pre-planned mode where you get the coordinates? Seems straightforward enough and it takes care of at least half of your problem.
Is this not available on the Steam version? 'cause I don't have access to it and google hasn't provided any answers.
