I absolutely love Case III landings.... just recently go to grips with the Hornet ACLS and now love them even more! Great breakdown of the procedures with amazingly helpful pointers for hitting that commence time. Bonus fact...it's always a good day when RedKite shows up in your notifications. Love your work!
i have to thank you. because after watching so many guides you were the one who explained well, i have been doing it wrong besides doing perfect landings or making right the holding patterns, i always thought 48(or whatever minute is asked for) meant i would need to land at minute 48 and not the push time-commencing ,this will be fun now, tx
Adding to "at night," US Navy definition for "night" is 30 minutes prior to sunset to 30 minutes after sunrise. Also, TACAN ID should be two digits, not three. Officially they are: CVN-71 TR CVN-72 TB CVN-73 GW CNV-74 JS CVN-75 KU CVN-59 QS (for those who use her) You can see these TACAN identifiers used on real world HUD footage as well, but are also listed in unclassified NATO naval callsign documentation: ACP 113(AH).
Thanks for this video redkite. I m glad to see it because I m very interesting by every scenario in case 3: at DME with more/ less 3minutes left before commencing. Other 6 minutes holding pattern: -250kts ground speed (4Na/min) -2 minutes for 180deg turn with bank left 20 degres and 1 minute per straight leg.
Yep many methods, really just comes down to personal taste and a degree of 'feeling' to get it right, have a fair bit of freedom long as you keep it safe.
Thanks for the great explanation! I have a lot of issues with ACLS in campaigns - couldnt land a single time, its always slightly off. Made for some stressful moments trying to get the plane down with
Word on the CV-1 and CV-2 approaches. NATOPS details the two. CV-2 is simply an approach where you marshal ahead of the boat. Not simulated because...it doesn't appear to be all that common practice IRL.
While the ICLS may 'look' like needles, they are never referenced as such. Needles is very specifically only the ACLS tadpole symbology, and ICLS is only ever bullseye. When the approach challenges your 'needles' state, if you do not have ACLS active for any reason or if both parties cannot concur with the ACLS needle state, negative needles should be clarified.
Great explanation! So the "48" means just the minutes without the hours (like 22:48pm, 02:48 a.m. or 04:48)? So I have to start my approach at minute 48 from every actual running hour (depending on which time it is as 00:48, 01:48, 02:48, etc.)?
I think you understand it, though your explanation is not totally clear, If it's 2200 and they give you a push time of 30, then you're pushing at 2230 If it's 2340 and they give you the push time of 15, then you're pushing at 0015 Hope that helps.
I'm having problems with my eyes. Do you know of anyway to change the HUD in the Hornet color to orange or some other color that will make it easier to see. Thanks
Can anyone help using ACLS mode by the book . Flying all the data as I am coming in I am getting perfect calls at last minute they say I am high and wave me off. If I let it go it lands.
In the Hornet, it'll show ground speed on the HSI, on the right of centre (left is true airspeed) Tomcat has something similar on the HSD with Dest or man selected.
Not recommended, can make seeing both the deck and the hud more difficult. Plus the violence of landing can actually throw them off the pilots head in reality!
The goal of the video was to show the process of case 3, not teach all the systems like ils/tcn/navigation. That concession's made as i personally feel they each deserve their own video to show, and i didn't fancy bogging down in the base systems.
Great to see you back in the saddle doing tutorials again buddy. Very easy to follow... in practice could be a wee bit different BZ

As always with You, the highest quality of knowledge provided. Great graphic work.

Finally, a clear explanation of the message from the ATC. Tx a lot.
Glad it was helpful!

Makes me very happy to see ya back in the hornet
Very well done, Red Kite! This helped me, and I've been doing this for years (incorrectly) ;-)
Well made, well presented, very informative. Thanks
Very nice, thorough and clear explanation !Thank you!

Think we've all had a rough night landing experience or two!

This is an excellent guide, thank you for making it.
You're very welcome!
Glad to see you back!
Excellent breakdown!
Now that was simply excellent buddy, many, many thanks.
Love your work.

Fancy seeing you here! Took the words out my mouth. RedKite ALWAYS delivers S!
Very Kind of you both!
Great stuff as always!
Good job, very well done.
How did you get your super carrier to give it's call sign? marshal sounds different than I've ever heard mine.

Thank you!
You answered my question perfectly fine!
Nice video. Could you please do one on ACLS. THANKS
I've done one on the Tomcat, you looking for the Hornet?
What a good video

Why do you set up your radar alt on 500 ?
Are you with VNAO?
does u set datalink for the carrier?
If you want to use ACLS then yes, you'll need to.
@@RedKiteRender how to add that btw? any tutorial?
How do I calculate 300 knots gs

@@RedKiteRender Can't see it anyway. 🤣 Good video, thanks.
This is a pretty bad video bro, sorry. I'm so lost 4 mins in. You don't explain anything all that well and go too fast.
