    Kudos to this woman for seeing a comment, realizing she could have done better, and filming a follow up video from a different perspective. Class. Pure class.

    Never knew the oversupply thing! I've had over-supply AND forceful letdown with all 3 of my babies, and it took more than 6 months to resolve with all 3, the first would stop breathing a lot from it and it was awful. But because he would start breathing again, didn't turn blue and the kids seemed happy nobody would help me and would just tell me "It's a good thing and other mothers would kill for this thing you're calling a problem". I wish I'd known this, it would have helped my babies so much and saved me so many tears and fears!
    My 3rd baby just chipped his first tooth (Only had them 2 darn weeks! Bath-tubs are not a healthy diet for babies. ;P) and it has put an immediate pause to nursing. Hoping a shield helps, because pumping for 30 minutes every 2hrs isn't realistic with 3 kids 4-and-under. It's been a nightmare today. This could save time, tears (I feel selfish and like a failure for stopping even though logically I know better) and possibly save the whole milk supply if this works.

    My second needed the shield for maybe the first 6-8 weeks. Just on one side because of my inverted nipple. He grew out of it! I’m using it again with my girl and hoping she grows out of it sooner!

      So awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this important point. Sometime there are differences between both sides on the same person, and you may need to work a little harder on one side than the other. So glad the nipple shield worked and that you have it as a tool this time as well. Welcome mama!

      Hi @Tanya Isabel what do you mean grew out of it? How was that for you?

      @@valerie-xg9mx I was on TH-cam and got a notification so hoping it’s not weird that I’m answering so quick 😂 so around the 6 week mark, I would nurse him with shield for like 5 minutes and then take it off and he would nurse without it. Any time I tried nursing him without the shield first he would cry.. but eventually time would get shorter with shield. First it was 5 mins, then 4, 3 minutes, and finally he was okay with no shield! My daughter took a little longer but we are shield free now!!

    I birth smaller babies 5-6 lbs babies and one thing I noticed was our biggest issue was latching no one ver told me how small my babies mouths were they had extremely small mouth and it was almost impossible for me to get a good latch especially with my first. I had no prior knowledge and I was so young makes me sad I blamed myself so much and felt like a failure, pregnant with baby number 3 and want to go into it as educated as possible and open to all and any options wether that be direct to breast and using a LC or pumping or using a breast shield. Thank you for all this information

      Hi momma! That mom guilt can really get to you, but I am sure you were doing the best you could with the information and support that you had at the time. Congratulations on your 3rd baby and on trying to prepare yourself even more :)

    I am using it since my son has a cleft and can’t do a proper latch yet. His surgery should make it possible to latch properly, but that won’t be until he is 6 months. I hadn’t been been placing it the way you showed, I will have to try that.

    Our newborn son has a high palate, and is only able to feed because his mama uses a shield. The docs tried to discourage us. Sometimes a woman knows best, when even the professionals don't.

      Thank you so much for sharing with us. High palates can be tricky and often a nipple shield can be really helpful. Glad you listened to your instincts!

    Found this super helpful, my baby is 2 weeks old, we started out with formula, it messed her stomach up and caused bleeding so we decided to breastfeed while i still have some milk supply, she’s so use to the bottle nipple she would not latch so we got some shields and she latched!

      Yay! Sounds like a success story! If you eventually need help with weaning her from the shield, I have a video with tips for that too. Congratulations on your baby :)

    What if I can hear a smacking sound while wearing a nipple shield? Does that mean it’s not on right? I suspect mine is too small for me, I got a 24 mm

      A proper fitting shield should fit snugly around the base of your nipple without causing pain and the cone part of the shield should fit all the way in your baby’s mouth. It can be tricky to figure out proper size, if you are having trouble finding the right size, try working with a lactation consultant

    I have flat/short nipples and now I understand why my baby does not latch on me. My baby is now 2 months old, she never latched on me. We mix fed her by bottle - formula and the very small amount of my breastmilk which I got from pumping. I never thought of trying the nipple shield until I came across this video. I honestly gave up on breastfeeding her after a month and a half, and now I'm thinking I might have given up too easily. Is it too late for me to try the nipple shields and breastfeed her again? She is now 2 and a half months old.

      Sometimes a nipple shield can be a really helpful tool in getting a baby back to the breast after bottle feeding.

    Can I use a nipple shield if I have pierced nipples?

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      had never thought about it... I am unsure if a nipple shield would fit over a nipple ring, or if you would find it comfortable. I would check with your baby's doctor to see if they are comfortable with it, as nipple rings can cause a choking hazard to baby while feeding and that is why we usually recommend removing them for feeding. Congratulations on your baby!

    Have you heard of a Nipplette that you can wear prior to birth that draws out the nipple? ☺️ Do you have any insights on this?

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have heard of it. I have not tried it personally but it works in a similar way to the supplecups which I have a video on. With any suction device to pull out the nipples, consistency is the key to it working, and building up gradually how long you use it so it doesn’t cause nipple cracking and tenderness. With either product they’ll stay on better under your bra if you wear a breast shell over it (the shells for sore nipples not the ones that say for inverted nipples) Let me know what you think if you end up trying the Nipplette .

    This is great information! However why do you keep saying the parent? Don’t you mean the mother, only a mother/women can nurse.
