Great review, really do like the look of the new F900GS so much so I am taking one for a test ride next week. One thing that always makes me chuckle is nowadays we refer to a 900CC Adventure Bike with 105bhp on tap as a middle weight, it wasn't that long ago that a 105bhp 900CC bike was classed as a heavy weight superbike 😀
I almost waited to ride the 900 gs, but I decided the 890 SMT was more suited to ragging about dur to the wheel set up. (plus, I am a bit over the BMW costs) Very happy with my KTM.
why not? I had the same conversations years ago I bought a new 850gs everyone who had never owned one always knew the problems. I thrashed it every single time it left the house, I maintained as per book I am not one of these internet mechanics who say change every 1000 miles and tinker about at home. 2 years all over europe 31k miles I traded for a 1250gs and I never had one issue apart from the side stand. My 1250 however 8k more and after 100miles started chapping like a ford orion I owned decades ago.
Looks the business for sure, that engine has been around for a few years in the 900 XR (made in China) rated at 105 bhp so nothing new there. The seat looks like a complete plank for long distance but no doubt they’ll offer a comfort variant for a fee of course. Thanks Mr LCR 👍
My '23 890 AR was a bit firm initially but I softened the suspension settings front and rear and it made a big difference on the road. That's what we pay for and it works when used.
BMW are still at it everything the other manufacturers have on standard is a option.I will still be ordering a 900 tiger rally pro better spec and build quality and second hand values are strong 🤔👍
I had a good look at one when my 1250 was having a service. It appeals as its lighter to push around and will go off road. Need to see what luggage is available for the touring side of things. Great review again Chopsy.
Nice one chopsy , I think your heading for an adventure bike in your garage soon😁 you have been a busy bee recently on here ! Great stuff keep it up mate .👍
Rode this last Saturday...more you ride it the better it seemed to get...much more manoeuvrable than my 1200 GS.....imagine it would be superb off road..
I moved to a Multi V2S from a 1250 GSA, made me realise how saving 45kg in weight makes for a much more engaging bike and just as capable long distance. Certainly not as capable a tourer though two up but better than you think.
You guessed it. I was racking my brains for the film…thought for a minute it was Porky’s. Thanks for jogging the memory. Great reviews Chops. Keep them coming 👍👍👍

Before splash cash on the 1300 GS have been waiting to have a go on the 900 Adventure as I have a hunch it is all I really need and I can splash the extra $10,000 AUD on having an adventure.
Just rode that at Daytona Bike Week. I rode it before riding the 1250GS. It sort of ruined the 1250 for me. the 900 was so much more fun to ride, at least for a short test ride. Much smoother, quieter, and more sporty. It had all the power I needed and more. I even liked the seating position a bit more than the 1250. If you are looking for a midweight then you might want to try the Honda Transalp as well. I rode it and enjoyed it, but to me, the 900 edged it out a bit. Of course if pricing is a huge issue, you’ll go with the Honda hands down.
Great video. Im not in the market for an adventure bike till the end of the year but im definitely interested in this GS 900 enduro and im also going to test ride the GS 1300.
Now that I have a fairly small adventurebike 400cc, I struggle to see the point of a big one. Never going to awesome off road, always compromised on road. Big touring bikes are where it's at if I wanted another big bike(which I sort of do).
Agree. Adventure bikes should, IMHO, come in under 200 kg (wet). New bikes are like digital cameras. Once they reached 6Mpixels you had enough for 98% of applications. But they keep giving you more, and more, and more...
My mate is mad on BMW's he's got a Porsche GT3, BMW HP2 & HP4 and a Ducati 999R ( his late Dad's bike bought from new ), we went to Nurburgring me and mate on our SDR 1290's and he on HP4, the year before Covid hit, my favourite is the HP 2 I really like the boxer twins they look so good, Great review as always Chops,👍👍👍👍👍
Fantastic review. Yep it seems expensive... but you do seem to get a lot of tasty kit for you cash. Here in NZ the Akrapovic exhaust is a $ 3000nzd (1500 quid) extra on the Triumph Tiger 900. So getting it as standard on the BMW is a nice touch. All the Cat pipework underneath looks easily to damage.
I'd be interested to see the specs on it. In particular, the steering head angle and the trail numbers. As well as the weight distribution. I had the XR900. Sold it for a few reasons. Two of which were it was very top heavy and the steering head angle was 29.5 degrees which made it very cumbersome in the tight stuff. Super stable, but horrible at slow speeds. An Indian chief Dark horse is half a degree faster steering...😂😂
Is this a middleweight adventure bike, or is the R1300GS an overweight adventure bike? Apart from the lack of shaft drive, this is arguably a better bet for true adventure riders. That said, I wouldn't want to replace a shaft final drive in the middle of the desert - a spare chain is easily carried. Are we at the end of an era for the old-school BMW GS format?
Any chance of doing a comparison with this and the Tiger 900, nice looking bike still not a fan of of all these twin cylinder bikes ,but this is a upgrade
Nice review choppsy, but the 14lt fuel tank is an instant no for me. Definitely happier with my KTM890 adv with a 20lt fuel tank. Similar power levels and spec for much less wallet hurt.

Well not sure if the GS is any good for what it was made for. The bike wasn’t really taken off road or out to any kind of difficult conditions. It’s an adventure bike and it would have been nice to see it performing for why it was designed to do. All I know is from the review is that it does nice on the road and the engine is good.
Nice review. Looks decent. Out of interest, when you referenced the V-strom, did you mean the 800 DE or the 1050 DE? The reason I ask is that it sits inbetween them but feels like it's in the 800 category. However, it's probably closer matched with the 1050 in terms of power, & spec etc. Price wise it's also not far off either once the BMW is spec'd up a bit.
