So much quality new bike content coming from the 44T stable of late. Nice to see Baron having a laugh in an environment we wouldn't normally expect. Cracking review Chris!
Looks like they’ve done a good job on that. I’ve never understood big 1000cc + for off road adventure. I have a Tiger 900 pro with a few extra bits and knobblies it’s the bee’s proverbial knees
Excellent video 😊 The bike is not for me though. If I was interested in buying a bike like that, it would be the Ducati Desert X. But I do love it when Chris is out of his comfort zone. Have a comment and a like for the Al Gore Rhythm, for a thoroughly spiffing video and a job well done 👍
How do you like the Arai XD4? I remember thinking when you were boiling on your Balkans trip that you'd have been cooler with a different helmet. I love mine, the extra airflow and wider eye opening.
Very nice Sir! Interesting how the real "Adventure" segment has moved into the higher middle cc class of bikes. I'm not taking my 1290SA on anything more than a smooth dirt road. We'll see if manufacturers continue the trend and go lighter still
Nice attempt and review Chris. Thank you. These bikes are always a compromise. If I’ve got dirt in mind then I’ll grab a couple of mates and tow them to a destination with proper dirt specific bikes. Plus having children that aren’t old enough to get a license then it’s also a good way of teaching them the basics. Possibly just one reason why a country with a relatively low population has produced so many world champions in several categories. Australia.
Great review on a stock bike. What happens when you put some weight on that tail end? Enduro means packing up that tail with camping gear. How does that effect the ride?
Awesome review!!!! I love my adventure but I am leaning towards a lighter bike for the more off roadie stuff - Not that I ever do it but you know...In my head I am off road god 😂
Ive got a question for you. Which of the current adv bikes could survive being dropped off road without suffering a holed engine case or very expensive fuel tank?
Would be nice if BMW could clear up the details regarding manufacturing of the 900cc platform now that it’s getting popular. The price point suggests not made in Berlin, some online sources say built by Rotax in Austria, others point to Loncin in China.
Everyone needs to get used to global supply chains, or pay the price - I think that its almost impossible to find any kind of complex manufacturing which is solely manufactured by one nation. Sure, it could all be manufactured and built in UK for example but it would be £40,000.
F 900 GS is assembled in Berlin. Loncin in China produces on behalf of BMW the motor ( for all f-series bikes) and delivers it to Berlin. Production sites in Thailand and Brazil produce only for the local market.
@@FortyFourTeeth certain minor aspects of the bike can be made in China (mirrors, exhaust, etc). A component as crucial as the engine, however, being made in China deters me from buying. Would rather pay a little extra for quality, and I’m sure a lot of other consumers feel the same when it comes to their money.
Great “abandon ship” moment! And on to that sticky-out massively expensive to replace Akro. Why have it so vulnerable (like pretty much everyone else)? Perhaps because they’re massively marked up, a cynic might think? I’m a mere 5’8” (your height in the 70s in my platforms) so I’m guessing that standing is pretty good? I hate being bent over the bars which “enduro” bikes seem to force.
Fine review, pitty they don’t do a really good touring screen and show it with some luggage to suit.A better alternative to the gsa which is too heavy and bulky and doesn’t have the chassis upgrades.
I think Chris needs a weekend in Wales for some off roading tutorial lol or get him down to the ABR festival on the 42km bridgestone trail, that was good to watch, the 900 looks to a good bike, shame about the weight saving is majority from the reduction on the fuel tank though, you'll be lucky to make 120 miles on a tank going 70mph
@FortyFourTeeth wow that is impressive then on the fueling, I was worried reducing the weight on the fuel tank would impede the mileage a lot, that is great 👍 to hear then.
A Plastic fuel tank might be an issue long term, I've owned 2 bikes with plastic tanks and both swelled up due to new fuels we have in the UK, hopefully BMW has a solution for this
As someone looking at the F800 GS, this video was helpful. Thanks for getting off the road Chris and getting out of your comfort to show us the F 900 GS
@chrishart8548 Don't know much about them tbh, I have my A2 licence so I just started looking into BMW as I thought they were all too big for my licence. Ive been looking at the newer models of the F 800 GS / 750s / 850s.
why? Its got loads of range, is considerably lighter and will be better in a drop? You can get the F900 Adventure with a larger tank if you want, but its actually heavier than a r1300GS...
A little suggestion when you offer up some bikes to be used as direct competitors would it be possible to have them shown in the video to give an understanding of what you are talking about! When it comes to these different styles of bikes my knowledge is very limited!
I really like it, but the weirdest thing happened to me - I test rode a CFMoto 800mt at a ride day a couple of weeks ago and it had CarPlay built in. I’d never thought of CarPlay on a bike before and I don’t really want the CF moto but with all the shit and pain in the arse GPS units and systems on bikes and such I decided I’m not buying any new adventure bike until they have CarPlay and android auto lol. It’s funny it’s such a small thing but as soon as I saw it I was like ‘yep that’s the future it’ll be standard on everything in a few years, no point buying a new bike without it’.
@@silotx I know, and I think it’s going to filter down pretty fast. The AT is pretty niche for me, and I don’t think CarPlay is a feature I would buy a bike *for* that I wasn’t already very interested in, but having now experienced it I do think I probably won’t be buying a new bike until it comes in - new bikes just aren’t that different to 5 year old ones for me otherwise lol. I actually got a cheap Chinese CarPlay unit for my existing bike off Amazon. Cost about ~$200 but that’s still a lot less than the old zumo xt I had that was terrible 90% of the time and amazing 10% lol. Only had it a couple of weeks but so far pretty good.
I'd love to hear BMW's justification for getting rid of taillights. Do their test riders never go on public roads?

As I understood from reviews this bike could be much better as a rival to T7 with 700 and compr.11. It has too much excess power that is not needed for the task at all, and reduces reliability.

Agree, but it is cheaper, so the big GS guys won't consider it
