A good example of why Scott Stokely is the top coach in disc golf. Breaks it down as simple as it can get. Tells you the what, the why, and the how. Makes it actionable. Thanks, Scott.
This also taught me the biggest thing to help me putting years ago! I like to envision a small box in front of the basket/chains and when I'm connecting w it I'm on!
Hey Scott, I don't have much time to throw discs or watch dg content lately, but I saw your ace at Waco and it inspired me to keep practicing. You've been bringing the incredibly energy for a damn long time and I hope you don't stop any time soon! Thanks for everything you do!
I was getting frustrated being super inconsistent practicing my putting at home. Put this video on and with that one tip I hit the target multiple times in a row. GAME CHANGER! Thank you!
The follow-through concept applies to so many scenarios. I shoot skeet & clays a lot & follow-through is absolutely essential for good shooting. The opposite is "stopping" the gun (which results in missed shots). Thx for posting ☆
I have been using my practice basket, with intent to hit the target for a couple of weeks now. Half realized today... aiming with my follow through helped me be more on target. I have had this video saved for a month, then watched it just now. It concreted the idea of aiming with my follow through, learned The Golden Rule, and some more. Thanks Scott!
Having immediate clear feedback is so crucial to self-teaching and correcting... great job communicating the need for a judgement point in your technique. So important to be able to tell yourself "Yes - that is correct" or "No - what did I do wrong and what changes do I need to make" with every putt. Good stuff!
Great tip. I don't want to change anything in my putting, but that's a great tip. I think that I pretty much do that now, but will sure check it out tomorrow.
Scott, as always, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all of us! I just watched this and I’m headed out to the yard with my basket to putt!!
I have been telling every new player to the game this for 40 years. I put athletic tape on a finger or two on my left hand, and put the letters SSF there for a reminder for my routine. The first S is SPOT, find your spot, and the second S is SET, and set your shot and then the F is FOLLOW THROUGH and do exactly what Scott says make sure your hand stays right on the follow through and I can’t believe how many PUTTS I have made with that Technique. Don’t get me wrong. This is not easy to do each time you putt you have to think about those three simple things … but the most important one, is follow through. CONCENTRATE… which is simply FOCUSED ATTENTION. That is what makes a champion. Edit here. I would like to add that it is SO important to NOT look at your disc, keep your eye on that SPECIFIC SPOT (the first S ) …just like a free throw shooter in basketball, he only looks at the back of the rim…
YESSS! Love this advice. Shorten the feedback loop between action and result. Freezing the follow-through works down to the smallest details - is my shoulder in the right spot? is my head at the right level? Is my body moving forward? Whatever is part of your routine and putting motion, you can validate it against the result ONLY if you hold that follow-through.
Got my first tourney this weekend. Only advice i got was to practice my putting. Went to my local practice area working on this till I hit 6 20-footers in a row. Starting to get consistent thanks to you scott. Looking forward to putting into action
Great stuff. I try to do what you had said but don’t always remember so this is good review. I believe and need to refocus on leaving that hand pointed at the basket.
I used to be a filthy putter and then I got the yips after focusing on distance. Damn- 6 and a half minutes fixed my yips. Was crushing my putts at circles edge today. Thanks Scott Stokely.
Absolutely plausible, as soon as you hear it. And really well explained, thanks so much! Regarding other sports: I always wondered why snooker or billard pros usually leave the queue stationary for so long after hitting the playball. Often they hold it so long in the position, that they have to pull away just in time before a ball hits the queue or their arm. Now that makes totally sense to me. : ) (They also tell you to "hit through the ball", which I think is billard's equivalent of follow-through.)
I am putting better with the Golden Rule of Putting, at least in practice. I will try it out on the course soon. Thanks very much for another great video!🎉
The 6 month class helped my putting a great deal, due to things like this. You can aim and pump fake and feel good, but that follow-through and keeping your arm/hand out is going to tell you what you actually did. If you're looking at your missed putt and seeing your arm way right, that's information! It's easy to forget to do it in the moment, but if you miss 6 key putts and are starting to get frustrated and remember to keep your arm out, BAM, you'll know what you did and you'll sort it! You'll give that 7th a good chance, feel like you've worked it out, and that 8th one will go in. Just remember to do it right away to save the 6 strokes!
I call it this tactic "Hand of God" . As long as I'm obedient it has positive results. It's similar to darts as well - you literally point at where you want it to go . Similar to the end of a barrel of a gun and a bullet trajectory .. not a new concept but you provided clear details some may have missed. Good work.
Oh my fucking god, are you're kidding me?! I'm practicing in my living room (about 7 meters). I've been consistently just a little bit off (just a little bit right or left) all year long, and with only "just follow through" and I kept hitting dead center over and over again. Did about 50 putts and then had to come here to comment. This is insane, going out tomorrow to practice on the putting course. For real, listen to him, follow through all the way. Thank you Scott. Sorry for cursing.
Interesting information! I also find that bending real low to the basket and then pushing off my back foot towards the basket allows me to basically throw in a line from my chest towards the tip of my nose. If I don't lean towards the basket it's like aiming from the hip! Edit: I basically copy James Conrad and it works 😂
Hey Scott, I’d love to trade my expertise in lawn care for your expertise in the Stokely Complete Disc golfer course. Let me know if you’re into trades. Awesome content. Thanks for your sharing. (Completely kidding above. Thanks for the videos.)
This is pedantic but pro athletes in other sports definitely self assess and adjust. They might not even know they're doing it. Many ams (self included) don't adjust well because we often incorrectly identify the problem or we identify the problem correctly and the adjustment throws something else off. Knowing you have an adjustment to make can cause or relieve stress and stress=missed putts.
You are a top tier communicator, SS. Your voice and mindset are refreshing in our sport. Keep it up. We appreciate you.
Yeah, what @muchoarigato said!

This was totally helpful!!! Maybe best tip ever. First round out with this in mind I scored better and stopped missing right as much

GAME CHANGER! Thank you!
I've seen this talk w Stokley b4 but still clicked to watch again cause its that good! Simple but u see so many people never do this!
Never really crossed my mind to leave my follow through up to see where I was releasing. Great thought process and well explained
Sir Scott, your old vids have helped me so much. Remember the one where you compared putting to throwing a dart? It was a game changer for me.
The follow-through concept applies to so many scenarios.
I shoot skeet & clays a lot & follow-through is absolutely essential for good shooting. The opposite is "stopping" the gun (which results in missed shots). Thx for posting ☆
What a badass. Such good instruction.
Thank you good Sir. My putting has been all over the place lately. Need to re-assess.

One of your best tip videos. Much much better than the don't serve the pizza tips. This one actually works. ;)

Best teacher in disc golf
Great ace in Waco! It's cool to see that you still love the sport
I really like the way you teach it just allows me to capture everything you are saying because you make it understandable.
Love this video! You mentioned at one point "I didn't put hard enough". What steps or things do you recommend for putting more power in spin puts?
I have such an issue with putting. I’m definitely going try this and be consistent with this rule. The Golden Rule of Putting! Thanks Coach!
I love how you explain the theory behind the concept. Thanks Scott!!
This guy has a real gift for teaching

Scott as always you are the man I needed this reminder for some reason so thank you!!
This is some great advice.
I’ll pay ya back with some great advice Scott.. Sell those bomb ass jerseys!! Every one you wore at WACO was perfect.
been watching you for a while now. im still learning a lot but keep up the great tips! enjoy watching them.
Thanks for all that you do for the game, Scott!

Just decided to have a putting day today and then I see this video was recently uploaded =) Thank you sir!

thanks so much!!! I will try that.
Good info thanks Scott !!!

Soooo helpful. Thanks so much.
I will get some important info here for my practice sessions. Also, I will be sure to use my Pluck-Stik to make practice sessions effortless!
Thnx!

Love it Scott!

Sometimes I forget about this, and then when I reimplement it, my percentage goes back up
Just for that everyone should subscribe that watches this video! You have explained soooo much better this Sooooo Beneficial appreciate it!
Amazing. Watching the pros on DGN. Very few follow this golden rule. They drop their hands after release. I will follow this rule however.

Great Video!!
Finally someone who can say the word important properly.
You the Man!!!! Thanks for that bud
I already bought a bunch of Bergs! You said Bergs were good
It's a tip, not a tip, a rule, not a rule, a lifestyle.
Treat the basket the way you want to be treated
Me and Scott have the same basket
thank you for the golden rule! God bless you!
from the golden teacher
God damn this guy is good🔥🔥🔥
I had a rough day on the course yesterday. Missed everything outside of 20 feet. I needed this pep talk. Thanks Scott.
The golden rule of putting is a good metaphor for life. No matter what life hands you try to follow through by pointing at where you want to go.
Gannon buhr is the exception to this lol
Golden 🙏
Well spoken sir.
PS. Good lesson , thank You !

Ignore the Golden Rule at your peril. Get more like this with his 6 month online course!
Could someone send this to Henna Blomroos? She's an amazing player but sometimes her follow through is just not there ❤
Roady could putt, best I seen
like spiderman shooting a web at something ;-)
Really? No other sport allows you to self correct? 😂 Idk about that one. Liked the video though!
6 minutes of talking. Not a single throw.
The Golden Rule ? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Perhaps you mean the Zinc Coated Rule ! 😁🤽
