My wife and I are coming up on our seventh anniversary of switching to plant-based. I am almost 67 years old and I just had my second physical with medicare. And my numbers are fantastic and I feel great. Thank you to people like Doctor Greger because I watched a lot of these videos back when I was transitioning and they kept me going and keep informing me and encouraging me. I feel like I'm thinking more clearly and not stumbling on my words as much. I'm now reading Dr. Greger's "How Not To Age" and am trying to get the daily dozen in on a regular basis. Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices. Fasting should be investigated as a treatment for disease.

That said, it's not just the docs. All my family and friends have seen my improvement. Not one is interested in making any changes, including the one with T2, bad knees, heart trouble and is so big she can barely walk. You can lead a horse to water...

Almost certainly high in animal products. Anyone over 40 and under 100 in the United States was taught in school (elementary all the way to med school) that you can measure the health of a culture by the percentage of animal flesh/protein in their diet. Obviously we didn’t all buy into it, but that was the textbook rule of thumb for most of the 20th century sadly.
That’s why no sense like Atkins/Paleo takes off so easily here on a cycle, and plant based gets ignored despite all of the good evidence.

In Dr. Greger's previous Alzheimer's video he shows that the arteries in your brain can get clogged with fat and cholesterol and restrict blood flow the same way the arteries in your heart can. And studies show that high cholesterol increases the chances of developing dementia. So it would appear the same "Western diet" (high in animal fat and protein, low in fiber and complex carbohydrates) that causes heart disease and diabetes can also be responsible for dementia.

The scary title or maybe this quote from the study's authors: "we suggest that the most likely reason for the increase in OxLDL-EO6 in response to the diets was that the Lp(a) levels increased. If Lp(a) acts as a plasma transporter of oxidized phospholipids, it can be hypothesized that both low-fat diets resulted in favorable changes in the artery wall or other tissues that decreased oxidation. Increased Lp(a) would result in increased transport of oxidized phospholipid away from tissues, such as the artery wall. Our data suggest that Lp(a) levels are sensitive to these dietary changes and increase in plasma as a consequence of yet undefined mechanisms. In turn, Lp(a) binds the oxidized phospholipids that are being mobilized, which is reflected in the enhanced OxLDL-EO6 levels in plasma. *Thus, it can be postulated that with respect to this parameter, both of these diets are beneficial.* Support for this hypothesis can be found in our recent observation that in response to statin therapy in humans, a similar increase in OxLDL-EO6 occurs, possibly reflecting enhanced mobilization of oxidized phospholipids from the artery wall."

    • @RC-qf3mp

@@breadanwine the problem is that algae do not constitute a satisfying meal. People enjoy salmon, sardines, mackerel ,etc. when eaten as a part of a meal, you also get more than just algae and omega 3, but protein, other nutrients and a smile on your face. And then you don’t feel like eating a bunch of other food and junky snacks until your next meal. This is partly why studies just on supplements show worse results than when people actually eat the fish, which is more natural. And there’s always the mystery/possibility that nutrients work best in combination with other nutrients found naturally in the whole food when eaten whole. Nobody looks forward to eating algae, and taking supplements full of junk is inferior to getting everything you need from a healthy diet . The best diet for most people and the planet is an animal based (mostly fish) anti inflammatory whole food diet. Nothing processed, no added sugars, no fake sugar. Compare that to all the junk in vegan ‘impossible meat’ that comes from a factory. Yuck, and bad for the planet. Curcumin targets inflammatory and antioxidant pathways as well as (directly) amyloid aggregation, [25] although there may be problems with bioavailability and crossing the blood-brain barrier [26].
Multivitamin and Minerals (Solgar VM-75 without iron, 1 tablet/day). Combinatorial formulations demonstrate improvement in cognitive performance and the behavioral difficulties that accompany AD [27].
Coenzyme Q10 (200 mg, Nordic Naturals, 2 soft gels/day). CoQ10. May reduce mitochondrial impairment in AD [28].
Vitamin C (1 gram, Solgar, 1 tablet/day): Maintaining healthy vitamin C levels may have a protective function against age-related cognitive decline and AD [29].
Vitamin B12 (500 mcg, Solgar, 1 tablet/day): B12 hypovitaminosis is linked to the development of AD pathology [30].
Magnesium L-Threonate (Mg) (144 mg, Magtein, 2 tablets/day). A meta-analysis found that Mg deficiency may be a risk factor of AD and Mg supplementation may be an adjunctive treatment for AD [31].
Hericium erinaceus (Lion’s Mane, Stamets Host Defense, 2 grams/day): Lion’s mane may produce significant improvements in cognition and function in healthy people over 50 [32] and in MCI patients compared to placebo [33].
Super Bifido Plus Probiotic (Flora, 1 tablet/day). A meta-analysis suggests that probiotics may benefit AD patients [34].

Just a suggestion for a good topic.
"Concentric Left ventricular hypertrophy regression thru dietary approach."
I'm a whole food plant based dieter (95% plant based) for 4 years now and recently discovered I have concentric LVH but all other 2D echo parameters are normal including total left ventricular mass. My BP recently is going up for about a year and now I feel frustrated about being advised to start medication. I'm lean about 63kg and my height is 5' 6.5".
Thank you for the consideration. 🙏♥️

You have so much energy to run around be less sedentary get more oxygen, circulating, and you have better oxygen transportation due to less fat in the blood, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪

It is wonderful to see things like this!!! It would also be nice to see on paper what this diet looks like exactly what these people are being fed...and I suppose maybe Cornish will publish a diet book about it, if he hasn't already...........The sad thing about this is that, unlike this guy who willingly accepted to participate in the study, trying to get these ornery curmudgeons to go Plant based is well, just as hard as trying to convince many people that Vegan is the way to go........as I've stated many times in the comments about this topic, I have a 93 year old monster in law who refuses to even try to adapt this lifestyle........granted, she has lived to be 93, but she is becoming demented and refuses to consider going planted based Whole Foods......soooooo, I don't know....I suppose we continue to feed her what she is willing to eat until she gets so demented she won't know......perhaps at that time we can start feeding her a plant based diet and she won't notice until her memory comes back and then starts wanting hamburgers and hot dogs again....... : (

Ketone effects on the brain have been thoroughly studied for over 100 years since ketones remain the #1 way to treat epilepsy. The ketogenic diet was devised for the brain.
