Summer of 99' my father made us kids get up at 7AM and help him build his garage. I hated it. We were all exhausted at the end. I look back now and I'm couldn't be more proud that my family built it. We came together for a purpose and we get to set back and use enjoy. Family is important and it's important that we teach our children how to survive... Teach them how to create.
Thanks for sharing the video.
I'm a mom of two children. We are about to build an addition onto our home and I'll be the one this time that is rounding up the family (even my father). I hope my children will enjoy it.
Great Job! Your wife and family are very lucky to have someone so knowledgeable and capable of doing the work. Priceless.
Thank you so much! I just pretend to know what i'm doing 😉

Hahahahaha.
You know that's not true.
You're a great craftsman.
I’m a fan! Great job!! Wish I or my hubby had your skills.
the hardest part is the permits
Having issues getting your permit?
Permits easy. The stop/start waiting on inspections in my area is the real momentum killer. Especially when your town is at “Covid-level” staffing almost three years after the onset and everything else has returned to semi-normal
Permits? 😂just do it like that my boss doesn’t use permits lol he saves so much money
If you’re not planning on selling anytime soon - screw the government
No permits? Not good at all. If you get caught they will put a stop order on your job and a fine. They can hold you up after that for as long as they want. If you have a fire and you didn't get a permit the insurance will find out a way to get out of paying. If you have it built there inspector can make you tear it down. Ñ
For additions yes, get permits but stuff inside the house, like bathroom, basement, kitchen renovations you can get away with doing without permits.
First time in a bit I see someone who knows to hang the joist hangers AFTER having the joists lined up and flush with the top of the ledger board.
Love these videos. I have watched them on your addition, so helpful honestly. We have redone a home before completely from the subfloor to the ceilings but never an addition. You showed we really can do it ourselves and make it look amazing!!!
WOW, you did an amazing job of detailing the project from start to finish, thanks so much. Real inspiration for me to do our planned room addition. Cheers.
Oh man I wouldn’t think 3 piers can hold up a whole room like that but I guess it works. Good job by the way
This is me!! The weight is going to just sit on floor joist hangers??? NO.
it depends on the size of the room. 3-4 are good for most additions and minimally they need to be 48" deep.
Great job! Nice to see a traditional family where the father builds stuff and takes care of family! God bless!
Job well done. Only the man knows how hard it is to even start and then take to the end. His wife and kids must be real proud of the dad.
I really enjoyed this video me and my wife bought a house a year ago and we have been doing the letter remodeling and renovations this video give me a lot of ideas and you covered a lot of bases on the remodeling and addition can't wait to check out your future videos
I’m looking to do the same with my kitchen and dining area. This was very helpful and inspiring 🔥🔥
Hello Sir, I am curious if you were able to complete the same project? I am looking to do the same and would love to pick your brain from time to time as I am about to embark on the same!
This is awesome! It gave us some great ideas (and inspiration) for tearing down and re-building our garage. Good luck with the channel. I hope to see more in the future!
Awesome, glad it helped! Thank you so much for supporting our channel!
Congratulations 👏 you did an excellent job.
I envy you and every person who knows how to build from the ground up. You did an absolutely great job. I’m looking to extend my house on both sides and the back. I want to do it myself but the only thing stopping me is knowing the little extra steps. I might have someone by my side showing me. Great job.
You can do it! Take the time to watch many multiple videos on each step, read, and review regulations to make sure its all set! Exciting times ahead.
Definitely pay at least one person like myself who would only charge you $25/hr who has done at least 3-4 additions. It will save you so much time and money.
@@jking0.o121can i ask how you got experience?
Such a great video. Well done! Love seeing the fam running around
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for supporting our channel!
One mistake I saw you made was the orientation of the subfloor plywood sheets, the long axis should have been laid across the 2x framing joists and joints should have been staggered.
yeah, I made that mistake in my shop. You can tell when you walk on it. Overlapping joints helps with rigidity. I'll need to put a layer of ply over it to make it less flexible. Ill not make that mistake again.
I just bought a house and it had a kitchen addition done....some 40 years ago off the back end of a two story house built in 1940. Now I just signed the papers to purchase it and it can be built up to a two story on top of the kitchen area. It would add another 600 square feet. We'd add a full bathroom and a master bedroom. I came here mostly to see how you did the roof because mine slopes similar and the same direction.
I’ve watched your video three times. You did an amazing job. Congratulations !
No way, thank you so much for the support!
I have a 14x40 shed I converted into a 1 bedroom home and I’m looking at adding 2 additional rooms and 1 bathroom to it so my daughter, her husband and their son can live with me as I am getting physically weak and older even at 46 yr old. But, I don’t want to cut the side of my building for a doorway because we would want our personal space. So it would more like a duplex setting. Eventually I will cut through the wall to add a door to make it accessible for both sides. The only thing is my building will set on 2 or 3 center blocks high foundation and the add on will be about 16 inches below my floor level. Then a wrap around porch added with the capabilities of steps and wheelchair accessible ramp on the porch in 2 locations. 1 for crossing among the porch from house to house and then the other for access to the yard. Then I want to build a tornado shelter just 50 feet away from the home with a concrete sidewalk for the wheelchair. But I want the shelter above ground with a dirt mound on top of it. This would be because of water collection and the fear of drowning if the shelter is completely underground. The shelter can also be used for canned food storage for emergencies. I have 5 years to get this all done. Then I want to build another 2 bed 1 bath for my son just in case later in life he will need it. I’m on 5.5 acres so I have plenty of room.
Time to get to work! Good luck
Those clamps are really slick also!
That's an awesome job. I enjoyed watching the entire process. I definitely don't have the skills or physical strength to do it myself, but I picked up a lot for when I hire a contractor, to make sure he does it right. I love how it turned out. You have a beautiful home and family.
Thanks so much! Im glad it provided some value! Check out our other addition, a little bit different.;

I wouldn’t suggest hiring a contractor and then explaining to him you know how to make it “right” after a 20 minute TH-cam video 😂
😄@@kolethompson3357
beautiful addition, especially the use of greenboards for the outer walls. Most contractors would just put regular wooden panels. Goes to show you really go the extra route when you build something yourself.
Awesome job, phenomenal
Great work! This is amazing you were able to do this.
Thank you so much! It was super fulfilling for sure.
Incredible!! I wanna do this exact thing. My pitch isn’t as steep though. But thank you so much for this incredibly detailed video! Had to take forever to make
Finally finished, thanks for watching. Hope to see you break free with us! 💪

I enjoyed watching your video, great works. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
This is wonderful. Great job. I’m about to do the exact same thing and just found your videos. Love it. I live in NH too. Going to try to build on my existing deck with a lean to roof. Like your 12x24 project.
No way thats awesome! Better get going before winter. Ensure your footers are sufficient.
That’s an amazing video. And great skills. Thank you for sharing
Thanks so much!
This is actually a very perfect idea because I am planning to build a room that is the exact same size as yours so thank you for an Inspo
Bam! Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for supporting our channel. Be sure to check out the entire playlist of the build.
This was awesome. I'm wanting to build onto my home and after watching thing, I think I could actually do it! 15x25 foot room wouldn't be too bad afterall.
Incredible build!
Thanks so much!
Man, 15 years ago, this was the sound for me building a home in the SIMS
Looks great!
This is awesome. I wish I could do something like this
Good on you....Also taking time out to mow the grass!
I don't have the skills and I don't even own a house, I don't know why I'm watching this 😂😂😂.
Thank you for sharing this video with us, great to see a good example! I want to do something similar but probably double the size
Glad it was helpful! Double the size is a good idea. Gets tight quickly 😂
This is super amazing! I’m in Long Island New York and I’m now looking to extend my master bedroom. I’m thinking to try doing some of it on my own. I’m truly inspired by this…🎉❤🥳
Thanks so much Alicia! You got this 💪 let us know how it goes!
Good luck, Alicia! I’m doing same over in Suffolk.
This turned out great ❤
Thank yout!
Nice job Dude. Good Skills!
Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
Good job 🎉
awesome video. thank you for sharing it with us
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for supporting the channel! 🤘
I've been thinking of trying something like this myself. Mostly just a 4-5' bump out on the back of my garage for extra workshop space. It not needing to be house-level finished would make things a lot easier. I'm fine framing and putting in the work, I just get very stressed at the roof part, specially joining up to another existing roof like you did.
You got this! There's some great videos on how to frame it in.
Muy bueno
Todo bien planeado y organizado
Gracias hermano
Seguire viendo tus vídeos
👍
¡Muchas gracias por el apoyo!
Great job man,I watched the whole build and learned a tone
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 💪
Bro is FEARLESS. I feel like I'd be losing it the whole time I was up there on the roof stratling joists.
Haha, im not really into heights but it comes with the territory. The more you're at heights the more you get used to it.
I would love to add on one or two more rooms to my house. Right now, our laundry room, pantry, and HVAC are all crammed into a tiny closet. It has a washer and dryer with two cupboards above it along with the hvac system to the side of it. With a big family, the room is stuffed full with kitchen appliances and 3-4 bins of laundry. My wife and I dream of having a big laundry room one day. And pantry space would be nice.
Dude, the fact that you did this with limited time and on top of all that.. filming it.. crazy! Respect!
Thanks brother! 🤘🤘🤘
Great work!! I'm going to go put away my drill and deck screws now. 😐
you are an amazing young man taking care of your family like this. we are older but i need an addition too, might take us 2 years!
Thanks so much! Wow, you guys got this! 💪
Amazing work 💎
Thanks🤙
Thank you , I’m going to start building tonight
Right to it, no excuses. I like the attitude.
Dude, this is awesome! Really enjoyed your video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for the support! 💪
Yeah I do have plans for an addition but waiting right now
I like the fact that you used 2x6's cheers. built to last.
Oh yeah, you have to up here with the cold. Even down south for thew extra cost i dont see why you wouldn't as a standard. Its crazy some people have been bumping the walls up to a 8 inch for the extra insulation which is crazy.
Love the hard work and love the Joe Pavelski shirt
Thanks! Pavs it the man 💪
You did a great job! You are skilled🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much 😁
Nice, reminds me of my dad, he built additions to their house as well
Thats awesome! It really is a lot of bang for your buck if you can swing it, super satisfying too. 🫡
Fantastic job
Thank you very much!
That’s awesome work
Thanks so much Ryan 🤘
Very inspiring. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate the support!
Excellent video, good job. Wish i can do that. Keep posting, your awesome.
You can do it! thanks so much for supporting the channel 🤘🤘
Wish i had this skillset! Great Job
Thanks calvin! Just have to take the time to learn and apply it, then learn again.
So I have a similar ish sized extension that was built long ago with a flat roof that has since leaked and needs replacing. We're thinking about doing the same roof that you've done. Be AMAZING if I could donit myself for my parents after all they've done.
Very helpful!
We are planning an addition using your installation video. Thank you for doing the complete build. We are do it ourselves kind of people like you. I believe we get a better outcome. No labor cost..just sweat Equity.
Glad it was helpful! You guys got this. Super satisfying when you get it all wrapped up. Keep us updated!
wow dude. this is amazing. great job. Def subscribing
Thanks so much! You're the man 💪
I am no carpenter I am used to do alot of roofing I think you should have double the plywood and put some type of barrier on the underside .you did a good job
Great job!💯❤️
Thank you! 😊
NICE!!!
Awesome 👌
Thanks so much Ken!
Dude you have such an amazing life. That was a great video.
Thanks so much Jonathan. Everyone has their issues! 🤘🤘
Great video❤
Great work. Thanks.
Thank you!!!
Great video. Thank you. Just one question: how the insulation to the floor worked? Just that material that goes under the laminate is enough to keep the place warm? Thank you
Nice addition
Thanks Scott 🤘
Great work
Thank you so much 😀
I need to add a bedroom and bathroom. I bought my childhood home about 2 years ago. The house is close to 100 years old and we only have 1 bathroom for 6 people so it gets tense sometimes😂but there’s no way to add on without having to walk through someone else’s bedroom. Might have to just turn the dining room into a bedroom but the 3rd bedroom is on the other side of the dining room so someone will have traffic through their room so the one can get to theirs🤦🏻♂️I guess we’ll have to compromise lol. I enjoyed watching your video. I was thinking of redoing some trim and smaller jobs around my house but I’m not a carpenter, but a steel worker, and came across your video in search of ideas. I will definitely subscribe as soon as I post this comment.
That was a great video, thanks!
My pleasure!
Mad skills 👏
Thanks Rhonda! 🤘
Amazing. You are the man>
I like what you are doing. I'm trying to add on a laundry room and a bigger bathroom and walk in closet
Are those Woobies Shoes? 😉🤘🏻
Thanks for the video! Inspiration for the addition onto my own place
No, theyre Altama's basically the same thin g as you know. 💪💪

Talented.

Fantastic 🤩
Thanks 🤗
Great job
Thanks so much!
I want to add an addition on to my property it will be my first add on!
You got this. Definitely a life changer for me, and it gets easier after the first one.
That was beautiful u did that thang
Thanks so much!!
Thanks for the video. Great job, especially on the joining of the roofs. Loved seeing kids running around while their parents were building them a new playroom. What was the reason to build it on peers rather than concrete foundations like the rest of the house?
I’m adding a bigger bathroom to my house and a extra living room. It’s going to be a challenge and take a while but ima get it done. I’m doing 10ft ceilings though while the rest of the house is 8ft. I rather the luxary style added on while I update the rest of the home.
Wow mis respetos necesitas tener un Gran Numero de abilidades para hacer Todo ESO TU familia debe estar muy orgullosa bendiciones
Muchas gracias por el apoyo Luis, eres el hombre.
Here, take my like. Once I saw the Pavelski shirt, I gave in lol Great video man!
Haha pavs is the man 💪 Thanks so much for your support!
