- After a year of use I am reviewing this Kaito KA500L solar crank NOAA weather radio. This is a fine product for camping, RV, prepping, bugout, shtf, etc.. Enjoy!

Pavement Pirate - How has your Kaito 500L held up over the last year? I know you spoke highly of it in your excellent video. Do you still have the same opinion on the 500L? Thank you.
It still serves us well. Was our only radio for quite a while. We still use it during bad storms and power outages.

I gave one to my mom.
She uses it, and it holds up well.
Just bought one off of Amazon.
Feels cheap and plasticy like a Fisher Price "My First Emergency Radio" for small kids.
Feels fragile, only Am, FM and NOAA reception works well. SW is horrendous.
Solar Charging is virtually useless.
Cranking take forever to charge.
Overall it looks cool, but it's really a cheap toy.
Kaito messed up ! Should have charged more and put a good solar panel in.
It is functional, more of a gimmick imo. But it is a great radio for emergencies!

Agreed, no need in having a piece of junk. Been there, done that. This is actually a solid radio, we still use it regularly.
