So glad you did this because I just purchased a Kaito and selected the 369 model which is smaller and has less features. I selected it because it was smaller, compacted to move it if needed. Doesn't have all the features of the 500 like a short wave mode, but does have weather, which I'm more interested in having. One thing is the crank snapped off on mine because it is heldwith a small screw, I glued it back with epoxy and seems fixed. Just like the 500 it has very good reception and speaker hears just fine. Overall I am pleased with it. Should I have bought the 500? Hard to say...if this lasts Ill be pleased
Yes in my opinion it's good to have any good emergency radio these days with all those tornadoes dancing around out there as far as the 500 goes I've had mine for approximately 5 years and it has been a very good radio except for the rubber feeling sticky after 3-4 years there is a way to get rid of the stickiness I think you use alcohol
Hi Jim, I see you have a Baofeng vr5 in the background, could you do a video review giving your opinion on that radio, as I have seen mixed reviews on it. God bless 🙏
Hi Jim good review you did not cover the torch . I had an Eton ( Grundig) G6 which had the rubberized coating that got all sticky. I carefully removed it with rubbing alcohol 90% and some ear buds..
Hello. Can anyone pls help me because i just got one and I think it does not charge the battery because when I plug in the radio to the wall, the charging light does not lit. The only time it lit is when I use the crank. This is just a week old.
@@jimsradiocheck936 does the charging light turns on when you charge? And do i have to turn on the radio while charging? Thank you for taking time to respond by the way.
I think the newer KA500 models ditched the rubberized surface thankfully. Mine is about a year old and it’s pure hard plastics.
Got it in black !! Looking to boost the signal.
I've had mine now for 4 or 5 years it's a decent radio it's got a lot of features receives quite well

@@jimsradiocheck936 thanks Jim for the tip on the sticky surface. Yes, we are seeing crazy storms now..
I have one in red and it took a couple of hours to clean the rubberized coating off with alcohol
@@Titan500J yeah that rubber is a problem with a lot of radios
@@jimsradiocheck936 People that collect old cell phones have the same problem.

I'll see what I could do my antenna isn't working properly right now the one that I used to connect to the repeater

@@Andoy10 it's possible your battery could be bad
I have the yellow radio and it’s plastic not a rubber coating on mine
That sticky thing is a deal breaker!!!!
I think they make a newer version that don't have that sticky problem
It’s not rubber it’s plastic. Windex cleans the fingerprints off of the plastic. It’s actually a good radio.
Thanks for the tip I do agree it's a very good radio
