How do you know what channel your weather band is ? How can I find out so I can set it to the correct channel

@Porter4213 The weather channels are assigned by area, so there is little overlap. You just click through them, and the strongest signal is likely for your area. Of course, they also announce the coverage area.

So, can you plug a signal boost antenna to the 3.5mm jack (if it has one)? And if so, do you recommend a specific product for boosting signal range?

I use a reel type external antenna. Several to choose from on Amazon. You'll need to use the small alligator clip to connect it to the collapsible antenna. Not sure about an LNA. Cheers.

So should I not get the Kaito 500 .. instead get the Kaito KA500L ?? ... The 500 is $10 cheaper on E-BAY than the 500L .. is why I asked.

There are a couple of minor differences. As I remember the 500 will take normal alkaline batteries. The 500L has only a rechargeable but bigger solar connector. It depends on what is important to you. I keep mine in my RV and use it when camping so using solar tipped the scale for me. At home, probably little difference.

@@GadgetTalk4U So the 500 ways of power are regular batteries, crank, & the smaller solar panel (even though it's probably not great) ?? .. And the 500L has the bigger solar panel, crank, and ONLY a rechargeable battery? .. Can't put in regular AA's in it?

@@CasonovaCorkClub The 500 can be powered by AA batteries, a small rechargeable battery charged by solar or crank, ac adapter or a phone style power bank with a USB cable.. The 500L does not take AA batteries. Download the 500 user guide from the Amazon sales page for more detailed info. Both are nice radios.

Correct. The L model doesn't use AAA or AA batteries.
