    Short, succinct, and well done! The most underrated video on driver spin AND how to correct it on TH-cam. Anyone that hasn’t watched this is missing out on the key to hitting their driver, (all things being equal) I’d say 20-25 yards further. WELL DONE!

    Chris’ explanation of spin loft and the relationship between angle of attack and dynamic loft determining the amount of spin is brilliant. Additionally his drill to lower the spin loft should be a game changer. Can’t wait to put it to practice.

    I have trawled through many a reduce spin video and this is without doubt the best explanation yet.
    Very clear and excellent drill to get the feel of your cure. Cure I hope it is as I suffer from high spin and a drive reduction of some 50 yards on my drives of a few years ago. I’m 75 and really fed up with no run and even backspin on soft fairways with a drive. Hopefully Your video will help.

    I've always thought that to increase my AOA, I had to get my CLUB FACE pointed more towards the sky - but looking at how spin loft works - dynamic loft should be low (so my clubface is NOT facing more skyward) and AOA should be upwards. It is very similar to a topspin forehand in tennis - to put an image to it.

    very interesting Chris. I play with a buddy who has an 11 degree driver, is short, and he 'punches' his driver while falling backwards at impact. It has a slight draw and he rarely carries the ball more than 175 yards. but role he gets is crazy, and he often ends up with 280 total yards. I would love to get a high ball flight with the kind of topspin my buddy is getting. I'm working on keeping my hands ahead at impact.

    @KrypTeK702 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    i was just hitting the ball as hard as i could and i would hit the middle of the face and the ball would go super high but not very far. maybe just over 210. then mid round yesterday before I watched this video I tried keeping my wrist bowed and swung slower and I crushed it off the middle of the face and hit a couple 250 drives. I even had one roll out to about 300 and off the course lol. The ball even went straight for once. I currently do not have a driver of my own so i use my friends. Cant wait to see how I do with a driver fitted for me and paired with this technique to see how far I can hit the ball.

  • @Russcoe1963
    @Russcoe1963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I went to Ping for a fitting. I had 18 degrees of dynamic loft on a 9 degree driver. Spin was up to 5300 rpm! My swing speed should carry 240 yards, mine were 203! The 3 wood went further. Need to hit the ball properly. I’ll speak to my pro for some drills, this explains it well.

  • @TheSalonGuy
    @TheSalonGuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mate this is something I have been having issues with and could not figure out how to fix it nor was I ever taught this drill. This is the FIRST drill that cured my snap hook and I went from swinging out of my shoes with ball speed around 150, 2500 -2800 rpm hitting anywhere from 250-300 yards and after this drill it was an instant fix. I now hit half swing drivers 275, 135 ball speed, 1800-2100 rpm and its like a baby draw. Launch angles are around 12-14. How can I apply this with a full swing? Also, is this the same concept for irons?

    • @paws4thought449
      @paws4thought449 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t hit up on your irons, it will be a slightly descending angle unless the ground is very wet then try to hit more neutral. Hitting up with iron will come out thin

I can be at the practice facility and one after another, hit the chip shot that I want. However put me on the course, off the green bY 10' and all hell breaks loose. • @Nirumano
      @Nirumano 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Know the feeling. Mine is still set to 9.5, but get a lot of shots going too high. For me it's when I don't focus on target, but just wanna hit the ball. Reducing lag by "releasing early" (which can increase loft significantly).

    So you are essentially trying to add top spin (reducing backspin) like a tennis top spin shot right?

    • @nicolasstergaard4992
      @nicolasstergaard4992 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Reef Guy, I think you misunderstood the point. Chris was assuming that the questioner was hitting down on the ball(negative angle of attack, which caused too much spinloft) and showed a drill to fix that. He even says:" Notice how im trying to keep the handle forwards of the clubhead...". So there's no flicking of the wrists before impact or anything complicated.

    • @AquaGeek
      @AquaGeek 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicolasstergaard4992 but I thought flicking your wrists essential releasing them with lag is how you get power? I dont think anyone just keeps their wrist stiff. Please explain. Not trying to be a jerk at all i just don't understand.

    • @nicolasstergaard4992
      @nicolasstergaard4992 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AquaGeek There's no mention of power in this video, it's only about lowering spin on the driver and thereby getting more distance. The questioner is spinning his driver 3800 rpm which is waay too much - depending on swingspeed 2500 or lower would be preferable. The wrist-thing that might be confusing(at 5:32 in the video), is Chris showing a drill to get a positive angle of attack(hitting up on the ball) and a lower dynamic loft(forward shaftlean=less loft) - which combined gives less spin.

  • @jacksonpamperin99
    @jacksonpamperin99 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I constantly spin my driver at the lowest around 4500 and it can peak as high as 6000 rpm with an attack angle of 3.6 with a 1.43 smash factor and I swing comfortably at 118 mph I play the titleist 917 d3 At 8.5 head but set at A4 with a tx prototype diamana white board in a x flex shaft and I was fitted ( a4 is -.75 degrees lower for a lefty) and I have an insanely high ball flight naturally how can I get a lower flight and less spin? Natural ball flight is a slight cut or baby fade and I like to work the ball right to left

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Everything you said makes sense for your spin numbers - i.e. you are hitting a 4500rpm amateur fade. Most likely you are 3 to 5 degree Out to In and 2 to 5 degrees face open to path - so you are delivering a hard but glancing blow (1.43 smash) with 19-21 degrees spin loft. You have 2 choices. The easiest is to buy an extremely low spin head Epic or Rogue Sub Zero or the M3 with both weights forward (this is difficult to control). These heads alone, even with your delivery, in their lowest spin setting, will knock off at least 1000rpm. Your second choice, requires far more works but less money, and that is to learn how to hit 1 degree In to Out, 1 degree face closed to Path, and consistently middle to slightly above middle on the club face (my guess is that with your out to in swing with face open you are not hitting the middle of the driver). If I hit my automatic 250 yard carry baby fade with similar numbers I am 3500 -4000 rpms - but my swing speed is 108. If I'm going for my knuckleball, teed high, In to Out High draw with a slightly high toe hit, I spin at 2200 and the carry will be 270. If you want to hit a 2200rpm DJ Pro fade, you are going to have to learn how to hit it 1 degree Out to In with Club Open 0.5 Degree Face to Path, in the middle of the club, 4 degrees up on the ball with 7 degrees of active loft presented to the ball to add to the 4 upward launch = 11 degrees. Hitting it that square with increase your smash factor to 1.48 will give you a 175mph ball speed and you will carry it 315 with a 10 yard fade.

  • @timothycarry
    @timothycarry 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It is confusing. With a lower swing speed swing they often give you a higher lofted driver but to reduce spin you try and deloft the driver.

  • @camelcase9225
    @camelcase9225 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't have access to the technology to learn all of the numbers from my drives but I'm betting I'm spinning upwards of 4000rpm. It's frustrating putting in so much work into straightening my drives out, only to find out that I basically can't carry the ball further than 230 yards. Gotta sort this out.
    I do know that my swing speed is ~96mph with a driver too.

      camelCase This sounds very much like it could be my story. I feel like I put a good strike on the ball, good contact and hit it very solid many times, but have seen the ball back up a couple feet after landing. Chris has a very good explanation here though. I will try it out and seen if I can get my spin down.

    Awesome. I was struggling with my high spin rate. Everytime I fly the ball 330 it would back up a foot or so and was frustrating.

    I just left a Dicks sporting goods. They just got a new launch monitor. I have a 917D3 at 9.5 degrees in the C1 setting which results in a true loft of about 8.75 degrees. My swing speed with a 70 gram X stiff shaft and a midsize grip was about 110.
    I tried a 65 gram x stiff evenflow shaft on the new TS3 at 8.5 degrees A1 setting and a standard size grip and my clubhead speed went up to 115 average.
    My spin numbers were never lower than 5500rpm. And as high as 8750rpm... I think its a combination of junk launch monitor and a what in the living hell is going on as to why my rpm is so high with my driver? Smash factor around 1.38-1.47. Is my swing too steep? How can i reduce those numbers so the ball doesnt fall out of the sky around 240?

    I'm not sure this actually works..if my attack angle is down like-10 how can the face be pointing upwards +20. It can do that only of the shaft is leaning back wards which means the attack angle will be +ve

      I’ve never seen that impact achieved, I was simply using those numbers to help explain a build the picture, the information in this video is correct I wa just using simple numbers to get the idea across 👍
