      Starwood/Marriott Hotels allows for self check in at some properties using the Bonvoy app. Having done this myself, I was able to book, check in (including having a Bluetooth room key assigned to my app/phone), stay for 3 nights, check out and pay without ever speaking to another human being. They also have room service robots at some properties (have not experienced this personally).
      Personally, I think it would have been even better if a wisecracking dinosaur worked the front desk.

    I've always loved technology and how it has progressed in our lives but I'm not sure I'm ready for robots everywhere, if this pandemic has taught me anything it's that human contact is in fact one of our primal needs. And although a fully automated hotel with robots or just computers is both efficient and cost saving, I'm reminded that places like the hotel restaurant and possibly hotel bar with human employees would not only elevate the experience but also be necessary. The efficiency of computerized hotels mixed with social rooms filled with guest and few employees would be a great thing.

    • @lolawants2008
      @lolawants2008 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It is a human need. And just like malnourished bodies dysfunction, less & less human contact, or need to work together, get along, or have understanding- is breeding a new level of psychosis & narcissistic traits as a norm. We are devolving.

    • @elhajjmalikel6266
      @elhajjmalikel6266 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was one of the things on the agenda which they were using the "pandemic" as an excuse to implement it. It was never about a virus. It was about scaring people enough so they could cut their payroll and use machines in the place of people. All under the guise of "health & safety". Never was about your health or safety.

      but everyone is different, and depending on the service quality and needs of the customer, this is likely preferred for some. I'm sure they have human staff in case anything goes awry or they need to discuss things that they can't with AI. with hotels having so much focus on the hospitality, it does make sense it wouldn't be great for long term stays or those who want human interaction often, but I can definitely see it being perfect for some as well.
      I doubt this will be the norm everywhere for a long time, if ever, as even if we advance to insane degrees, we are still human and some things can never be fully replicated; while Japan has some sociocultural issues atm that might facilitate this kind of thing, they could make it worse and I see citizens standing up against the over-implementation, too.

      The reason they don't have them in the U.S is because they'd be filled with prostitutes and drug addicts and all kinds of weirdos who would bring in all kinds of disgusting bugs and stuff. They'd have to constantly be hiring new front desk staff every week because they'd get disgusted and quit because they couldn't take all the abuse from the clients and arguing with them about following the rules about what they can and can't bring in and cleanliness. It's a cultural thing. Maybe people in Japan can handle this sort of thing, but I don't think it would go over well in the U.S.

      In fact, there are finally also a few places where heroin addicts can get medically pure heroin to inject, if all other therapy options failed. They are as far as I know not yet widespread and only pilot projects, but apparently they work very well in other countries.

He made the baggage handler look inefective he should of went straight to his room unlocked it and put the kettle on it would of been at the door by then. i was thinking about it because of the way he was with it made me want to kick it over. its one thing asking alexa for answers and its another thing alexa sitting pretending to be a human even if it could walk around it would just be easier if there was a microphone in every room. Its a novelty precise tasks can really so far only be done by a fixed position mechanical arm and even then thats for laborious pre determined tasks such as manafacture anything else is just real work. the programming the build of it the engineering of parts the parts being moved from location to location parts being available its not just robots but the whole logistics of everything working together in unison a break in the chain is easily fixed by the human mentality of working together and being able to move about freely to do what needs to be done depending on what it is that needs to get things running smoothly again imagine a network of computers trying to do the same when the gaming industry can't even keep a hacker out of a game software crashes endless updates that end up messing something else up or completeing something your still not quite happy with because although its a mechanical digital system it can still never live up to the creators or users expectations wich in a way shows just how good humans are striving for that perfection to keep our hive in order it would be a sad day to see us replaced on a mass scale and no human should be outwitted and made to feel less superior to a lump of software that cant interact in the world the way we do . That will be facing daily the ego of the many creators of the software like having bill gates in your face everyday doing your head in .software coding will soon be as easy for average person as it is for the few who kept it close for so long holding back knowledge enterprise and buisness and money making opportunities from it .the cat is out the bag with the basics and just like math having an unfinished end problem that doesnt work there is a cap that code will get to they can create different keys different symbols numerical systems but it will always just be another alphabet. Pre made engines obviously will keep a few down for only so long with the engine only demanding code be written as a language a story of commands but the understanding of the system that comes from just these basics will demand precision and understanding of the underlying mechanic that makes it work

    They need to make an update video, this is from 2015. Considering our current situation with the Covid virus and people not wanting to go back to work, maybe we’ll see more robots sooner than we expected.

    Sounds creepy yet interesting at the same time. I wouldn’t mind this on a small scale, but for it to become the norm, I don’t think it would be a great idea. Myself personally, I prefer dealing with humans, for a variety of reasons. I’ll give you a good example: When I am dealing with the bank or whatever, and I’m talking to an automated system, it can get annoying sometimes. I’m like damn it, connect me to a human, I don’t want to talk to a bloody machine! And then I just keep spamming 0 until my call is answered by an actual person. Oh, and I am not surprised Japan is doing this. It’s almost like it is a trademark of theirs, to be technically advanced and quirky.

    It would be cool if they made a real life Astro boy since their inspired by Astro Boy (Atomu)

    Japan looks so cool. I must visit before I die. The US seems to be so far behind in everything.

      @@Aeternum_Gaming Yeah I know.. I'm South Korean and have always worn masks in winter 😂 kinda doubt that it's about politeness, in my (and most people around me) case it was to shield your face from cold or to prevent spreading flu.

    My first question to the robots would be what are you thinking about? I would love to metaphysically take layers of the robots perspectives and try and mirror them back so they understand their own coded minds…what a trip were in these days.

    even though we have robots, we still have to have humans to make sure they’re always gonna function correctly or not break down. we will always need humans around for these things which is honestly reassuring.
